In my humble opinion, this is one of the greatest Rock songs ever written.. thank you Mr. Richard Betts, without whom this song would not still be played 50 years later…
Dickey Betts does not get the proper recognition from so called rock experts for his wonderful song writing and stellar guitar work. He is an American treasure@
@@MAGAMANPATRIOT Dickeys certainly not under-rated by the faithful ABB fans. I'd also like to show some appreciation for his song writing. To be able to write rock-fusion tunes like 'Liz Reed' & 'Les Brers in A minor' & then go full on country with 'Blue Sky' 'Ramblin Man' 'Jessica" etc. Long live Dickey Betts!
I cant remember the last time Ive seen Derek smile that much watching another person play. Derek is a true artist and lets others do their thing never looking to upstage them.
It's cool to watch, man. There's another video of Derek sitting in with Marcus' band a while back, and he grins it up while they play Hot 'Lanta. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HB9qH8Pla2U.html
They’re pretty damn tight for guitarists who don’t regularly play together!! It’s also pretty awesome how much Derek likes to collaborate with other artists. There’s live shows of him with Dave Mathew’s, Santana, billy strings, Clapton/Winwood, the dead, Sharon Jones, Nora Jones, black crows, Kingfish, etc, etc. I love it!!
they have toured together...wheels of soul 2018 I believe. But no denying how well these two can jam and with anyone else...I have seen them both with numerous guests. This was beautiful unexpected moment. I was grateful to be there.
I was at one of the Fillmore East shows as a young man. In Memory of Ellizabeth Reed was transcendent then, and this version gave me the same chills I had so many decades ago. I still think this musical format of the long jam is relevant still. Especially when virtuoso guitar work like this is present. The Sting of Dereks attack brings me the ghost of Duane.
If only you had seen the Allman Brothers Band in the 70's! OMG they played a 3.5 hour set and we just didn't want to leave! God bless the living and the deceased. Long live the brothers and their offspring!
We are so lucky to have this band to carry on the legacy of the ABB and creating their own masterpieces at the same time! I tear up damn near every time I hear Derrick play.. Simply incredible.
It is pure joy for me to watch Derek smile in response to Marcus. Derek's face conveys genuine love, respect, and joy for Marcus' inspired and unique interpretation. I just saw TTB on June 22 in Winston-Salem, NC. There is no doubt in my mind that they are as grateful to be performing and creating again as I am to experience it. To me, the world instantly feels better - music heals. David Flamm - THANK YOU for posting.
great song...great guitarists...thank you...Allman brothers band so long ago!!!Derek when he was soo good so early!Uncle too is carried forward..love this sooo much
I don't know, says the guy from Macon, Ga, the is Allman-Betts, Marcus King Band, Billy Strings, even Dead & Co play some Allman Bros (always have even back in the GD days - brother bands - and they do share a percussionist, occasionally, and bass player). The legacy is strong...
With the original being such a masterpiece, playing "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" is a great challenge for musicians. Derek and Mark pull it off beautifully, precisely delivering the melody, while adding their own unique creativity! Bravo! Thanks for the vid!
That was transcendent! I want nothing more in the world than to see the TTB live. There is a show in my neighborhood in July, if my health lets me, I'll be there. If not, I just blew $300 on tickets.
Shannon K; Jerry, Dickie, Jimi, on-and-on; drugs either kill you early on or just suck the life out of your music and life. Dickie, unknown to many, was one of the most influential guitarists of the late 20th Century...and a shadow all the way back when ABB fired him for the last time twenty-years(?) ago...
I mean...thats the absolutely one and only GREAT derek trucks and marcus king is making him blush. Thats an accomplishment if ive ever seen one. Guitarists just dont make derek trucks blush. Kings on a diff level
Thanks very much for uploading this. It’s terrific to see the TTB bring up awesome talent whom I am unfamiliar with to pay tribute to immortal classics like IMOER, written by the great Dickey Betts and performed in treasured, timeless recordings by Dickey and Duane Allman
…. not to mention the whole Allman Brothers Band. Their At Fillmore East album can’t ever be forgotten, but performances like this one just reinforce the talent and creativity of the original composer and performers.
You have to check out more of Marcus King. His playing and vocals are once in a generation. You are going to see a lot of him over the next 20 years and beyond.
Norris Freedman: Agree. They play it so well, and Billy is so knocked out by the great Jack Pearson. Dickie said hire him or I'm going to take lessons from him.
Very cool . I hope Derek never has to be fingerprinted . Cause it won’t work ! 🤣 . And I think Marcus has played these ABB songs for a minute, Well done 👍
T Cole 2 and brethren: Have you folks heard Allman Betts Band with Berry Oakley Jr. play Liz Reed? Genuinely cut from the same cloth - and played with the genuine feeling. This composition doesn't need tour de force treatment. Just played as the beautiful love song that it is.
Duane is my favorite, but Derek is......nah, I'm not even going to think it. Marcus' solo was just fluid. Wow. Derek...what can you say? His solos are the epitome of "making a statement".
New incredibly gifted musicians will always be coming along. They will be rare (as they are now) but they will not go extinct. As they say, the cemeteries are filled with indispensable men.
Sorry folks. As a 50-year Allman Brothers fan, this version is OK at best. Technically it's fine. They play the notes correctly and do some nice improvising. They're solid musicians. But it's missing soul. They're too laid back. And for the first time I'm realizing why having two drummers made the AB so great. Without a second drummer this version just doesn't have that wall of sound (to use a Phil Spector term) this song needs. Dickie Betts & Jaimo: where are you when we need you?
