Jennifer Siebel Newsom is an actress, filmmaker, spokesperson, and mother. She received her BA and MBA with honors from Stanford University. Jennifer worked in Africa, Latin America, and Europe on assignments with Conservation International, where she focused on providing micro-enterprise opportunities to women. She later moved to Los Angeles where she performed in films and TV shows (including In the Valley of Elah and NBC's Life) and formed Girls' Club Entertainment, LLC, an umbrella entertainment company that develops and produces films and television shows that empower women. She recently finished writing, directing, and producing the documentary film Miss Representation, which premiered in the documentary film competition at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2011. Jennifer lives in San Francisco with husband, California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom, and their daughter Montana. They are expecting a baby boy in 2011.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
