These videos of people hearing for the first time always make me cry , I didn't use to be a crier but I'm a 70 year old man now and I tear up and smile at little things I wouldn't have noticed in my 20s.
@@pandapan5797good for you, it is so nice for an old guy like me to know that there are young people like you who care, bless you, pay it forward and you will be rewarded 😊
@@skippydammit i also agree but as I get older and realize that there are more days behind me then there are ahead I begin to appreciate the little things in life that I should have cherished all along
I'm not crying, you're crying! But surely, it's a whole new sense, right? Associating spoken (and heard) words with their actual-meaning counterparts would be a whole arduous process, right?
Sure but somehow it will be accelerated because of the asociation between view, gesture language and hearing it not. Sure he have seen lips moving for all her life and she knows the alphabet and the meaning of words, i don't think it will take so long.
@@pseudomonasaeruginosa4104 No comedy, please. Deaf means she has not heard that word and sound before. You need to first accommodate yourself with the sound to speak it properly. That might take a lot of days.

The surgery to install the receiver in the head involves cutting the auditory nerve, so what remaining natural hearing remains is sacrificed for reliance on technology that is not without risk.
Hello, and thank you for your comment this afternoon. While it is common that some residual hearing may be lost during cochlear implant surgery, hearing preservation is an important focus at Cochlear. Advances in implant design and surgical technique allow Surgeons today to focus on maintaining the structure of the cochlea and residual hearing. The hearing nerve, however, is never intentionally severed during cochlear implant surgery.
