Not only is he a genius, he is also a real gentlemen. This "teen" was more of a respectable adult than the two host. It's a shame how easy people try to cover up with dumb comments when they feel different or inferior.
What an amazing guy. Not only is he so smart, but he takes care of himself physically, seems to have good discipline and manners, is a good speaker and is even a good looking kid. Some people just got it all don't they?
+Creepy Creeper obama and facebook's zuckerburg too, so cringey now he hates Qatar (I'm sure) and is returning to U.S to sue the school district for a lot of money.
Outstanding young American claiming his success is from 1%inspiration with 99% perspiration. He has worked hard to succeed. It is amazing what he has achieved. Home schooled, Pianist, diving, etc, plus that he has pilot's license but still not a driver's license.
kid don't act like you're not genetically gifted, i don't care if i never had a moment of freetime and did everything i could to be like him, i wouldnt be able to
i believe extreme hard work and dedication is the key to success - but itd be naive of me to think i could do this. it's similar to the situation of some people being great athletes - and others arent - despite work ethic
+whoknows464 You have to keep in mind the context of his response. The female host begins with, "I know you don't like the term genius." Knowing nothing about any of these people, the viewer can infer this knowledge was established at some point prior to this interview. He then goes to say that he doesn't coin himself as a genius or prodigy because a lot of hard work went into getting to where he is now. The inference here is that, to this kid, the term 'genius' carries an implication of inevitability or the feeling of it being easy. The idea that even if he were the laziest genius ever, he would have still ended up in a superior position in life, which to him, is very far from reality. His response is establishing this difference, which upon hearing, makes total sense. To coin him a genius or prodigy is dismissive of his hard work-- whether through self-imposed will, or through excellent parenting. To use your athlete example. It would be comparable to constantly telling a professional athlete that he is only there due to being gifted genetically. Yes, we all know genes play a role, but to focus on what was just random chance is rudely dismissive of the countless hours put in at the gym, on the field, and in the mind. On an unrelated note, to me there are several times in the video that show this kid isn't at some unreachable level of genius, and also coincide with his story of hard work. At 4:09 he is asked how old he was when he applied to NASA's jet propulsion laboratory. He says 15 or 14. He was 17 at the time of this interview, and couldn't accurately recall how old he was when he applied approximately 2 years ago. At 5:51 the female host asks him when he got into scuba diving. He completely fails to answer this simple question. It could easily be chalked up as nervousness, but he looked pretty calm to me. Just my thoughts, feel free to dismiss. Cheers.
+Itraveled500milestogiveyoumyseed. you can work harder than anyone else in the world, but if you dont have the mind to understand things on a certain level, have the wits to make intelligent moves in business and life in general, that hard work won't make a huge impact on society.
+Itraveled500milestogiveyoumyseed. But when an 11 year old graduates college when most other people are 10 years older in their graduating class, you definitely are a rare breed. This kid didn't earn his degrees with just hard work.
"when did you get into scuba diving?" wtf is this? flash dating? Ask him the real questions. Such as, what concerns should we have as a species and what can we do to nullify those concerns. He's clearly a brilliant mind. Pick it! But noooooo....she wants to know if he has 17 year old buddies and what it feels like to be a genius lol
I just don't see anything really inspirational about him. Being that he has a martial arts, scuba diving background and finished school it is evident that he has rich parents. When you have rich parents things come to you easier and much faster than someone who has the capabilities but from a less fortunate family. Hes success does come from good parenting as well but I just don't see anything phenomenal.
Any poor person could become just as successful as this kid, but a lot of people are too lazy to work as hard as him and just want to go hang out with their friends. And just because your parents are rich you aren't automatically going to become some super successful person. hard work and dedication is the only way to make it through life and do great things, I think he is a good role model for people.
Thats true but poor people usually can't afford his type of hobbies. What I am saying is that his economical class lets him do things such as going to school much earlier in life. I known many people who get accepted into programs and learning activities but they can't do it because they simply can't afford it.
+Josue rodriguez Yep, he has the best education that money can buy. What I love most about these wonder-kids, is that everyone gives them full credit and licks their ass; but if a child is a victim of abuse then they get ignored and tossed aside like yeterday's garbage.
