Hello Mr. Josh, i did a reaction video of Epica and they were really so awesome, hope you can check it out on my channel. I will also react on some more of their performances in the future😍💕😍thanks for your recommendations😍
The reason that their styles work so well together here is that Tarja is cast in the role of Christine who is a traditional opera singer and should sound well trained and proper. Meanwhile, the Phantom is a dark, mysterious and dangerous character whose role perfectly lends itself to Marko's metal growls and such. So perfect.
Her (band's) cover of Muse's Supremacy is outstanding. If you want to check it out, mind you, the 2016 Poland ("Woodstock") gig is better than the 2016 Italy (Milan) gig. I'd say she's a metal singer more than a classical soprano. Or both. lol
Marco's phantom is may favorite simply because that "all right" at the end makes me believe he is completely insane. I love how you showed us what you meant as you described the different vocal choices. Well done.
Tarja was very sick that night and was not even sure she would be able to sing. And then she walks out on stage and do this. Amazing. This was also her last consert with nightwish before she was fired from the band. And that is a totally different story which I am sure people will tell you about.
That's why End of an Era is not my favorite Tarja's era Nightwish concert. I don't think her voice is as good as in other 2004-2005 concerts, and she tires towards to the end. Another thing is I don't like some choises they did with songs: "Sleeping Sun" has 2005 rearranged version with more contemporary style singing which downright ruins the song for me. "Ghost Love Score" has loud backgroud choir which drowns the vocalist (and also as the last song of setlist her voice was really spent in the latter half of it). "Phantom of the Opera" is probably the best video of the song though. Unfortunately this concert was early in RU-vid and has most views, so everyone mostly finds songs from this concerts. Also if you compare to early concerts, the fun and team spirit is not found in this concert any more. It's not the best quality Tarja's era any more either: some of the fans' remastered songs have much better quality.
This song was my introduction to Nightwish just 10 months ago. Ghost Love Score, with Floor Jansen, was the second song. Tarja is amazing. Maggie Renee was blown away with Marko as well. You should watch her reaction to this song on her channel too. Maggie is an established opera soprano who agrees with your comments...many months ago.
Tarja and Marko reunited for her Ave Maria album circa 2013? Filmed in Germany. Marko can do a lot more than growl. He really is a trained singer in his own right. He has been in two other bands before jouning NW in 2001. You will 1st hear him on the Century Child album. He has training and it shows. You don't need me to retype the wiki page. 😅 Suffice it to state the freakin obvious then. They make beautiful music together and the friendship shines through. Despite the troubles they have buried the past problems to be friends now and that is great. He is now 56 to Tarja's 45. Tuomas turns 46 in December. So not exactly spring chickens anymore but the video is saved. We have captured the moment. And since then we have more skilled, trained, exerienced and comfortable musicians doing their magic on stage now. So not a loss there. So many greats, legends never made it out of their youth to reach their full potential. How fortunate they did. We don't have to wonder, " What heights would they have reached 20 years on?" We see it. Now that we can all agree is wonderul.
This is my favorite musical and this song is my favorite from the musical. The 2004 movie version was my favorite until I heard this version of it. This is hands down the best.
And too think that dearest TARJA was ill for this !!!! In love with divine TARJA'S vast brilliant diverse solo career !!!!! Songwriter, collaborator, producer, musician and on and on. ☮☮💘💘.
@@AaliyahCapili You are welcome !!!! TARJA is by far my favorite singer songwriter on the planet. Her long awaited Outlander Project with Torsten Stenzel will be out soon !!!! She stated that her vocals will be used more like a musical instrument than ever before !!!!! ☮☮💘💘.
Allthough Floor is my eternal love (💗👸), this particular performance is to blame why i'm hanging here with all of you Nightwish folks. Tarja Turunen is excellent here. But the real surprise factor is the doublebearded bassist Marko Hietala (who has now left the band). And after this show they sacked Tarja. This was a national grief here in Finland. But hey, life goes on, and now at least Floor and Tarja are good friends. Great reaction, young talented Lady! ⛄👍
Yes, i agree with you, life goes own and sometimes things and changes happen for a reason. They are all so talented and amazing, not to mention so inspiring. Thank you so much Pekka for taking the time to comment and appreciate🤗have a wonderful day🤗
WOW sucha good reaction! You had such good points that made me notice that i had not before and ive heard this version 20 times! Your face at the end was the best! love the videos you are doing amazing
Nice reaction from you to this great performance by Nightwish. There is a video of Tarja singing one of Nightwish most beautiful ballads, Swanheart, with a symphonic orchestra you may be interested to check out. That was from hear Beauty & Beat tour with drummer Mike Terrana. She sang some operatic stuff in that tour too. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TvFVdET3ng4.html
The Beauty and the Beat has great performances, wonderful tour. What bothers me some of the songs though is how prominent the drumset comes. Naturally, as Mike is the other main character of the tour, drums get to play major role. Mike is a great show guy, too.
Hello John, thanks so much for taking the time to comment and thanks too for your appreciation. I am so grateful and glad that you enjoyed it💕have a nice day🤗
A Tarja's last concert with Nightwish i remember it as if it was yday. Loved your reaction as always and very informational :) keep safe and healthy hugs from Greece, Also did you cut your hair? ps. Have you ever sung Dido's Lament? if you have is there anywhere I can listen to it, it's one of my favorite recitative/aria and i would love to hear your take on it.
Hello Nikos, yes I cut my hair with a little bit of layers🤗 Thanks so much again for always taking the time to comment and make recommendations, I am really grateful for your support and appreciation🤗I hope to be able to sing Dido’s Lament in the future🤗if ever, I will share it here too. Stay safe and healthy too. Hugs and kisses from me😍💕😍
Tarja's pronounciation of "opera": She does not intentionally add a breath there. This is the way "opera" is pronounced in Finnish! The final "A" is cut straight off, as opposed to e.g. English speakers, who add an "H" (as if a faint sigh) in the end, makin the word "operaH". Not here :)
Always nice to see opera singers enyoi symphonick metal. Are you familiar with epica or delain??? Simone simons is floor jansens best friend they studied together. Epica with floor doing sancta terra or sabat matter dolorosa is something to watch for you or delain with marco. And ofcourse amira willighagen you know why 😃😃😃. Have a nice day and hopefully some more beautyfull reaction s by you
@@maggaw9869 Nightwish är helt klart mina absoluta favoriter. Har lyssnat på dom sen slutet av 90 - talet. Sen vilken sångare de än är så spelar de ingen som helst roll. Fortfarande största favoriterna.
This was the last time they sang together. Tarja got the famous letter of dismissal immediatelly after this concert. By the time of this show Marko had already gonne through a botched vocal chord operation which adds a lot more to how impressive this is.
In addition to this! Jukka (drums) was struck with a migraine due that concert! I am no stranger to migraine myself, so to ser him play anyway, is mindblowing to me 😳😳
Wonderful video, I enjoy watching it! Good mood video :) They’re both good singers and I personally really like Markö’s singing. Whether he was in his own band (Tarot and later solo career), a member of the Northern Kings, Nightwish (2001-2021) or a visiting musician (like Delain), etc. A few years of Tarja's youth studies: In 1993 she attended the Senior Secondary School of Art and Music in Savonlinna city. At eighteen, she moved to Kuopio city to study at the Sibelius Academy. From 2001 to 2003, she studied at the music academy Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in Germany, where she trained as a soloist with further specialization in art song. A few years of Marko's youth studies: His music career began at piano lessons at the age of eight. At the age of 11-12 he started playing guitar. After elementary school, Hietala studied singing at the Kuopio School of Music (high school,) and later singing, bass and music theory at the Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Helsinki. Marko has mentioned the following people as his musical role models: bassists Geezer Butler and Bob Daisley; singers Ronnie James Dio, Rob Halford and Kate Bush. Marko is a real music worker, he has played or sung in several bands and visited the records of many different bands / artists. He has been a member of these bands: Nightwish, Tarot, Northern Kings, Heavy Christmas, Sapattivuosi and Sinergy. He has sung on albums by the following bands: Ayreon, Dreamtale, Altaria, Amorphis, Delain, Conquest, Therion and Dark Sarah. In addition, he made 2019 a solo album. Marko won the 2020 Finnish "Masked Singer" competition !!!
Hello Jukka, wow thanks so much for sharing this information of both of them. They are really awesome and talented😍thanks so much for your appreciation, im glad you enjoyed it🤗have a nice day🤗
I've been a musician for many years playing various instruments, and I do sing, but I'm nothing exceptional. I love your explanation of what the singers are doing. Very informative and helpful. Thanks.
This was Helsinki, Finland. October 2005. I was 18 then, I was there, as a graduation gift. Beautiful venue, beautiful country!!! I'm 37 now. An Unpopular opinion, but... After seeing this live... Floor's got nothing on Tarja. This was literally an "End of an Era" - It was the last time we saw, THE ONLY Siren, the Viking, the Pirate, the Vampire, & the Zombie perform all together. Thank you for sporting this reaction video! Very genuine & honest. Cheers from Portland, OR!!!
Were you aware that Andrew Lloyd Webers Phantom of the Opera was the second song of the same name with the first iteration being Iron Maiden's Phantom of the Opera, released in 1980, while Andrew Lloyd Webers version was first performed in 1986 (six years later).
I believe Marco hits high e5 there, sorta crazy. Also, love your energy, and excitement. Subbed. Also a shame you need to put up a "warning" in the beginning of the video. People need to be less harsh with criticisms.
Great reaction. :) Tarja is classical and operatic training, you can listen her performing classical music and opera arias. Also in her solo career you can hear her less operatic vocal and more of her deep chest voice. ;)
A rock voice phant is not so strange. When Andrew and Tim wrote this musical they were thinking of Freddie Mercury from Queen to play the phantom. If you know Queen, you will realise what a pity it was that Freddie didn't have time to do this
Wow! You have a disclaimer that you’re not an expert but the way you analyzed their performance was so great! Am proud to be an adoptive aunt! 😊❤️ Salute to your parents Rupert & Len! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you so much for your analysis of this amazing performance. I love her voice and her style. Please react/ analyze her solo career with Oasis which she wrote and performs in Argentina 2012 playing a piano, her performance of Supremacy from Woodstock 2016 and Mein Herr Marquis from her Beauty and The Beat tour with Mike Terrana. She has also done a whole album full of Ave Maria`s from different composers, one she wrote herself. It is very beautiful. The one on the links is from that album Ave Maria En Plein Air. Here are the links: oasis ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-K3QmQN7VSNI.html supremacy ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e5zEb5xFlIE.html mein herr marquis ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-761qOzEdl8E.html ave maria ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tR5o4FrFxlo.html
Very good suggestions Tuija. I love "Oasis" and Tarja with piano. Oasis is one of those songs I really love from the album, too. Plenty of other Tarja's songs I prefer as piano performances (just made another comment about it). "Mein Herr Marquis" is wonderful! Have you herd her Ave Maria by Tosti 2019 from Christmas Together tour? There's one pretty good audience captured video from Tampere church ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-R1Oet_mgpP0.html
hello! your analysis was wonderful. I am a big fan of Tarja, could you analyze something more about her classic style? for example: mein herr marquis, i dreamed a dream, or mio babbino caro, ave maria (she composed a lot of ave Maria). Thank you so much!! greetings from Argentina 🇦🇷
Hello Melisa, thanks so much for your feedback and recommendations. Tarja is amazing, yes will check out some more of her performances too💕🤗😍thanks again and have a great weekend💕
I know a lot of people, including Tarja, like to classify her as a soprano. However, I view her as more of a Mezzo due to the fact her lower register has such warmth and depth. She didn't sing that way when she was younger with Nightwish. If you want some good examples of her current sound I'd strongly recommend checking out the follow two performances: Tarja - I Walk Alone Live in Milan (From Act II) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--tO34gPvaz8.html Tarja - Supremacy (Muse cover) /Woodstock 2016 - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e5zEb5xFlIE.html Mezzo sopranos are still sopranos, after all. The distinction is the depth of timbre down at the low end (and getting that resonance to begin with).
Wow, never knew some kabayan(nag-base ako sa name mo 🙂)and an opera singer this young will have a review on their cover version of this masterpiece! That's a really good review! SUBSCRIBED.
@@AaliyahCapili if you are into Symphonic/Operatic Metal reviews right now. I highly recommend the band "Therion" and their songs: "Son of the Staves of Time" or "Rise Of Sodom and Gomorrah". Live version is highly recommended. Suporta sa'yo, kabayan.. 🙏🙏🙏
Man.. I've got tickets to see Nightwish perform in Oslo this coming sunday, which will be my 3rd time seeing them live in total, but 1st with Floor and first time without having Marko there.. I'm so nervously excited about how much I'll miss his presence on stage :S
Hey beautiful, so good to see you're well. This was an amazing version of Phantom. Try Floor Janssen, and Henk. It's Wow ! Hope to see you soon. Until next time, stay well
One thing you ought to know is that Tarja had the flu when making that performance, that's why she sounds a bit out of breath or breathes heavy at times and why she left the stage in a hurry. She had to go back stage between songs to throw up, this was the last song and she still managed to sing like that. She's nothing short of amazing.
The singer in the yellow dress, with matching mic and stand, was the original member of Nightwish, Tarja, with operatic voice, fantastic with the bass players voice, Marko, being an evil Phantom. At the beginning, Tarja: "Inside my miiiiiiiiiind" so clear and bell-like, the girls at the front overwhelmed. A bit sad as this was her last show, but only the rest of the band knew that.
i think nightwish is like the gateway to get people interesting about classic music and heavy music. thanx to great reaction like always and have lucky new week there.
If you want to look at some good vocal growl you should check out the queen of growling Tatiana in jinjer. Pisces studio session is a good start or perennial live @ wacken. Another god version of the Phantom would be floor jansen with henke port
Glad you are continuing your Nightwish journey with a trip back into their history. A lot of people check this song out to hear Tarja but in my opinion it is Marko who steals the show. Stay safe 🤘 ✌
Metal and classical music goes hand in hand alot of times, many metalheads are also in to classical. bands like Metallica or Yngwie Malmsten have done concerts with orcestras, some singers like Mike Patton can do anything, seen him do rock, metal, beatbox, musical style, jazz-like and alot of alternative music, the man have a 6 octave range.
I can tell you are a filipina, it's nice to hear your perspective! In my opinion, the best of the Nightwish vocalists. Once is their best album, I recommend you listen to it in full! ;)
You caught Tarja at het final show with Nightwish... I think you will like NW more recent song Shoemaker as well. You'll need to checkout the wiki about Eugene Shoemaker before.
While the sound is different most people don't realize how much technique metal music takes from classical singing and classical music(there is a reason metal fans tend to also like classical music). Believe it or not death metal growls actually use similar techniques to opera but they use them to create radically different sounds. I just always thought that was interesting considering how people viewed metal music as almost vulgar when I was growing up, but it actually required a more skill than most pop of that era.
@@AaliyahCapili of you haven't already I suggest you track down and listen to someone playing Beethoven on an electric guitar. It honestly sounds almost like it was written for the instrument. Also you might like the band crux shadows.
Iy was a nice professional reaction to Nightwish (singing of Tarja and Marko). .. Kiitos (Thank you) as Tarja said in the end of the above video. As regards the growling, the following piece might be interesting to be reacted to - Pisces of an Ukrainian metal band Jinjer. - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SQNtGoM3FVU.html . This song also has very nice lyrics. The vocal singer, Tetiana Shmalyuk, made extraordinary lyrics to this song. As a matter of fact she is telling in this song about herself, about her own traits of her character revealing the personality of a Pisces person. Tetiana Shmalyuk was born in 1987m in the year Cat (or Rabbit) according Chinese horoscope. Her Zodiac sign in Pisces.
