The line that says "we were soldiers. Carried the war on our shoulders. For our nations, is that why we bury our friends?" always emotionally wrecks me because it highlights that question of "why are we doing this and losing our friends?" This song is a true masterpiece on all levels.
It took them from 2014 to 2021 to write and make it. They didn't want to make it "just good enough", the song is far too important to not be polished to perfection.
No need to apologize for playing this particular song after Christmas; it transcends the holidays. It's message is one we should never forget, as Sabaton pointed out. Thank you for understanding this song so well!

Having Floor's vocals at the end credits adds to the drama just like movies made in the old days which they used similar vocals. Floors husband Hannes was the one who almost got blown up by the grenade and who first walked towards the enemy. No bullets fly animated would be another great Sabaton song worth checking out. Carol of the Bells played backwards. It is a film, the video was made by people that usually make movies. When the world shut down, no films got made, so they had time for this.

In a comment to another reaction somebody said, that the acoustic guitar Tommy Johannson played is an authentic model from the time of WW I and of course electric guitars didn't exist back then. By the way Tommy is a crazy talented guy and he did a Christmas calendar with one song per day in December. If you like to stay in the Christmas spirit for a bit, go check them out, it's awesome.
The soldiers of the Christmas truce found out, that they actually had more in common with the poor bastard in the other trench, than with their own generals! In the Christmas of 1915, the generals couldn't have that! So there was no repeat of the 1914 Christmas truce on this large scale, as the artillery kept firing ... Some DID come out of their trenches, but was mostly instantly killed by the enemy soldiers. No moment of peace in a war that'll never end ... Until 11 o'clock, 11th of November, 1918 ... War to end all wars, indeed ...
If you want an awesome live performance with Sabaton I can highly recommend en livstid i krig (a lifetime of war) live Scandinavium Gothenburg. The album they had released then was about a part of Swedish history called the era of great power (Stormaktstiden in Swedish) It was released in both a Swedish and English version, they are doing the Swedish version for that show so be sure you turn on the subtitles. I was at that show and you won't regret it.

The end credit voice comes from Hannes Van Dahl lovely wife..... They said "we need an epic operatic voice for the ending" Hannes said: I have one of those at home :)
There are many jokes about how that ending with Floor came to be, but in reality, it is part of the symphonic edition of the album, they named it The Symphony to End All Wars. Floor also featured on the soundtrack edition of their previous album, The Great War (there she is actually singing The Future of Warfare)

Sabaton has the ability to reach deep into your soul and pull out all the emotions, making you feel sad, happy, and proud all at the same time. The lyrics in this epic song are amazing and impactful, telling the story of Man's humanity even in the midst of unspeakable horrors. And another reactor (I thin Doug Helvering) said the song is Carol of the Bells, but turned upside down. great reaction, if you continue to explore Sabaton you will find an incredible collection of tales of sacrifice, heroism, and honor, all based on actual events and told with great music. Great reaction to one of Sabaton’s best. BTW, you’re pretty. The melody of Carol Of The Bells is from an earlier Ukrainian folk song for springtime. It’s about a sparrow coming to tell a shepherd to be happy - two lambs have been born and he has a beautiful wife.
The end credits piece was an excerpt from Sabaton's album "The Symphony to End All Wars" which is their album of symphonic variations of the songs from their album. Made during the pandemic and lockdown, they had a little extra time to play with things. Thank you for the reaction.

There are some accounts that soldiers were punished for having participated in the fraternization. They couldn't very well have the soldiers realize that they had a lot more in common with each other than with their leaders...
Tommy is probably the best singer in the band but Joakim is a better fit for Sabaton. But I absolutely think she should check out his band Majestica. They have some Christmas songs but I suggest "Above The Sky"
Yes, there were areas where the fighting continued, but we have literally _hundreds_ of letters from dozens of different battalions and regiments, telling about truces. I can't argue _how_ widespread the Christmas Truce was, but my guess would be that it encompassed at least half the western front and at least some parts of the eastern front.
@@EllenbergW unfortunately the Eastern front had a problem in that Russia and Germany did not celebrate it the same day, and so the attempts to have a Christmas Truce were defeated by the fact that first the Germans and then the Russians misunderstood what day they were supposed to have it. On the Western front it primarily depended on units not carrying a grudge, since at least one attempted truce by the Germans was met with grenades and automatic fire. The Germans by and large did not yet carry a grudge, however depending on the allied units was the main complication.

Maybe I should have said that a good part of the _British_ side accepted the truce, whereas the French were a lot more reluctant, given it was _their_ country that had been invaded - and just forget about the Belgians accepting a truce. As for the Russians, I heard that but I think I have also read that there were still _some_ truces, although much fewer and smaller ones.
I believe that I heard that the WWI Christmas truce also took place towards the beginning of WWI before the animosity and fierceness of battle grew to the intensity levels we think of when we hear "trench warfare". I remember a British WWI vet remembering how soldiers from both sides would yell across the battlefields questions about everyday life in the "normal lives" they left behind. As well as saying that during that first Christmas Truce, British and German soldiers would leave the trenches and take pictures with each other, eat and drink together, etc

If I remember right--and I might not--I think the band mentioned that the choir of voices backing them were supposed to represent the voices of the people who'd already fallen in the war, which makes a lot more sense now that you mentioned the call and response bits. Since the choir is always encouraging them to put an end to the fighting and just be good friends to their fellow man, which would make perfect sense coming from people who'd already been killed by the war (either as soldiers or civilians).

I love that they were like "let's put some epic opera-vocals over the credits" and the drummer went "alright let me call my wife!" Also the memorial at the end is a real thing in...Belgium (iirc), but they copied it on a set along with the trenches for ease of production (and the plowing up-stuff)

That's just on the eastern front there was no truce because the Germans switched to a new calendar instead of the ancient Christian calendar and the difference between Christmas for Germans and Russians is 2 weeks. And at Christmas, the main thing is not gifts and drinks. The main thing is prayer and pure Christianity. And the Germans could not win and decided to use chemical weapons. But Russian soldiers with lungs burning from deadly gas and coughing up blood, knowing that they would die anyway, won in the name of true Christianity.
