Not like I want to see anyone cry, but I gotta give major props to the vulnerability. That's what music is supposed to do, man! If there's one thing I could tell the boys/men of the world, it's that we need to feel our feelings. I've been through a lot of shit in my life, some of it I've caused, and most of it boils down to, I was trying to lock my feelings behind a steel door, and that only worked until I myself got locked behind a steel door. There is nothing more harmful in this world than cutting off one's own feelings. If the music makes you want to get up and dance, dance. If it makes you want to cry, cry. If it makes you angry, let it out peacefully. The world needs more people showing vulnerability, especially in public forums like RU-vid. If I'd learned from a younger age that showing emotion was OK, I'd probably be a Hell of a lot better off. Also doesn't help that my mom tells me whenever I cry, "It's okay, you just need to be medicated," or "You'll find the help you need eventually." Those don't help. Talking about my issues, that helps. Sorry for the tangent, I just wanted to share. Be proud that you can be vulnerable on camera and still have the guts to put it out for people to see. More people need to be like that! I applaud you, Silas.

Two thumbs up on your comment. I am so sick of the majority of commenters crying about their favorite bands being "underrated" instead of talking about how the actual song or band effected their lives. MAJOR PROPS❤❤❤

You are a treasure Silas and The Rock'nRoll! Keep feeling the music and your emotions, never shut them off. You give me hope for the younger generation, you astonish me I can tell you really feel the music.🙏🙏
@keetahbrough
@keetahbrough Год назад
Exactly! Because emotions are PHYSICAL. To deny your emotion is to deny that you EXIST. You cannot change you emotions with your mind.. you have to become *one* with your emotion. You can change a *feeling* with your mind.. you can trick yourself, it's a *flight or fight* response characteristic.. that's why we can go through trauma, and come out the other end. But it's not a real thing, it's superficial.. temporary. You CAN change how you feel, emotionally, though, when you are *one* with your emotion. One being, mind/body/soul alignment.. to be a whole human.
@keetahbrough
@keetahbrough Год назад
If you''re angry.. let it out the way it's supposed to. You can trust yourself, and trust your anger, why you're angry. Anger is NOT the *path to the dark side*. Anger has to STOP being a black listed emotion. Anger does NOT commit violence, naturally. Anger IS NATURAL. Do you know where your *emotions* come from. I'' tell you. Emotion is the base of your lifetime, and it was developed during your childhood. Your emotional base, is what you learned and were fed, from your birth on up to adulthood. That's your base. So whatever they made you swallow, growing up, is what you have for an emotional base, your entire life. A childhood of abuse, pain, discrimination, poverty, systemic violence, unreasonable expectation, economic slavery... contributes towards a base of ANGER.. for many many people, but they've been CONDITIONED by educators, media, medical establishment and society itself that if you're ANGRY.. you must be mentally ill... particularly is you're violent... they tell us this while they got armed thugs just gunning people down in the streets... but be calm. Don't get angry. Mel Gibson talked about this... *the social contract*. Can't get angry.. because it isn't personal, eh?! There's a very good reason why violence rules the planet.. because nobody is grown up with compassion, to live a life; and, everybody is enslaved to the 9nth degree, from the cradle to the grave. WHY do we continue to tell people to be peaceful about this. At least get angry! Don't be such LAMBS TO THE SLAUGHTER.

This is why I watch reaction videos. I pick some of my favourite songs, add 'reaction' to the search term, and listen to it through the ears of someone else, vicariously listening to it for the first time again, through you. Oh, and I LOVE how you engaged with it and paid attention, you gave up your emotions to it and that's what music is about. I'm 47, I bought this album when it first came out, this was one of the stand out songs, and I listened to it for the first time again through you, Silas, so thank you, I felt like a proud father.! Ha ha.

Nice man. U2 during the late 80's thru early 90's was one of the biggest bands in the world no lie. Early in their career they helped popularize alternative music with songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Years Day". Worthy rabbit hole. They can go hard too. Try "Bullet The Blue Sky" from this album.

U2 were always ahead of their time musically. They were forging the way and the rest of the world was running to catch up. Music they made in the late 70's sounded very late 80's. Music in the 90's could still be released and be hits today. A lot of groups have gotten their inspiration from this band. I've never met a U2 song I didn't like over the course of their 40+ years of making music. But that's just me. not everyone is a fan of ALL of their work, but a lot of us are. i often think when reading comments that people are drawn most of the album that was released when they were young and call it their "definitive album" and which album is the definitive one depends entirely on the person. This song is from their fifth studio album. if you decide to keep on down this rabbit hole (and please do) and you decide to check out live versions of songs, start with a version that is closest to the era in which it was released. don't get me wrong, i LOVE the later versions too when the songs themselves evolve, but it might help you to hear it as we all did originally then check out what it became in later years. :) Edit: the reason that album you are looking at is so huge is because it was released later as a deluxe edition years after the original release of Joshua Tree. The original album had 11 songs. U2 is VERY prolific when writing for their albums and dozens of songs get written and tried and they pick through to see which will make it onto an album. So when they release a later edition of an album as an anniversary or whatnot, it often includes many of those unreleased songs that were written at the time of the recording of the original album.

Early U2 is very different from later U2. The Joshua Tree was their huge breakout album and "With or Without You" was probably their biggest song. The album only had 11 songs, though. You should check out early U2 albums like "Boy" and "October," which were released in 1980 and 1981 as the punk era was becoming commercialized into "New Wave." The early albums were much more sparsely produced had limited commercial success. Notable tracks from these albums include "I Will Follow," "Gloria" and "I Fall Down." Their first big album was "War" which featured the hits "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day." It's a good rabbit hole to go down.

Beautiful song... This album "Joshua Tree" came out just a week or two before I transferred from Recruit Training at MCRD Parris Island to MCAGCC 29 Palms (about 10 to 15 miles from Joshua Tree N.P.)... We played the hell out of this album in the barracks the spring and summer of '87. This song in particular hit many of us 18 to 20 year old Marines real hard being hundreds, if not thousands of miles from "home"... Go back one album and check out "Bad" if this one hit those emotional chords hard... Also, "Sunday, Bloody Sunday" is a hard one to swallow as it is based on an actual event/massacre in Northern Ireland just a few years earlier...

Anything from Joshua Tree, might as well do the whole thing. Bullet the Blue Sky is dark and dope.

I have seen them live a couple times and they definitely put on a good show. I pretty much had their first two albums when I was in college on the local college radio station. Immediately went out and bought them and we all played that stuff all the time. Sunday Bloody Sunday was quite popular.

Excellent vocal performance...The first really prominent use of the EBow guitar effect...Phenomenal dynamics...

I am not a massive U2 fan, but Under A Blood Red Sky has to be one of the best live albums ever produced. Listen to Sunday Bloody Sunday from that album or 40
