well, blaming the hikers is not the solution... just like lot of of mountain bikers disregard hiking-only trails, or use unsanctioned trails (I mountain bike, and I've been guilty of this), sometimes hikers also knowingly/unknowingly end up using mountain-bike only trails. Mountain bikers should always expect obstacles in their trail - be it humans, animals, downed tree, rocks, etc..... esp a pro-level rider that is not riding a closed track, should be extra cautious before blindly bombing down the hill....

@Chapelron
@Chapelron Год назад
For people shitting on the kid for not wearing a whole stormtrooper suit: cross country riders usually don't wear that much protection due to the nature of their riding style which consists of much more uphill/straight pedaling (race track length ranging from about 5-30 miles) and less gnarly downhill sections (less gnarly everything just in general) and even their bikes are much more suited towards the pedaling with their bikes being more stiff, also the geometry is much more similar to the road bikes compared to your average trail/enduro/downhill mountainbikes, and much less travel on the suspension compared to the bikes mentioned before. Most cross country riders wear only a lycra, and a half lid helmet, essentially road biking gear. But for Enduro and DH riders, they should definitely wear a full face, pads, and body armor. Also remembering to replace helmets every time they are cracked, or damaged in a way that they are not able to absorb shocks and impacts anymore.
@Jonas_Dee

Also mentioned it was a rest day for him, wasn’t taking the ride seriously and therefore not going out of his comfort zone in any way.

This wasn’t a cc rider anyway. No one should shit on the kid, it’s the dumbass trail Karen’s that caused it.
@Chapelron
@Chapelron Год назад
@R I do realize that the impact still goes through the helmet, but the difference between coverage the XC helmets and a general mtb helmet and the full face helmet is significant (back of the head and the sides mostly), he could have definitely hit the back or side of his head which is mostly unprotected
@Chapelron

Shut up, you obviously do not know anything about this sport and the nature of cross country racing. Putting blame on someone who could have life altering injuries when he did nothing wrong is so uncalled for.

Always always just full send into hikers on wrong trails in this scenario. They're soft and will buffer better than hitting a solid ass tree or rock/dirt. In all seriousness I feel bad for the family and hope their son has a full recovery.
