LATE BREAKING NEWS - After producing this video, I made contact with descendants of David Churchill’s family; Marilla’s. They are going to give me a lot of additional information about her and I will update that here as it comes in.
But for now, I just found out that Marilla and George had only been married a few short months when she died. Her comb was a wedding gift from her husband George. The comb was found about a foot down in the dug up grave with some of her hair in it, which was a very unusual color - still on the comb.
MORE TO COME!

THIS STORY:
In 1849, the sleepy settlement of St. Charles Illinois was turned upside down by an angry mob of villagers from a neighboring town. They had descended upon this place from nearby Sycamore, to recover and avenge the dastardly body snatching of one of the town’s beloved teenage daughters.
Under the cover of darkness, three young medical students from St. Charles, riding secretly by horse and wagon, raided the gravesite and snatched her body, keeping it hidden until it could be safely brought to the school for examination. But the act did not go unnoticed, and when word spread, the residents of Sycamore became enraged. What happened next was an event now called "Richards Riot".
TODAY - The societies, museums and other historians have the wrong basic information, which would have identified the full name and tragic end of this beautiful teenage daughter. Come with us as we put the pieces of the puzzle together to find out who she truly was, and how she died, as Ron walks the cemetery and tells the entire horrific tale. If you watch closely and pay careful attention on the way, you can solve the mystery near the end, as we follow the same path that Ron took in order to figure it out.

THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

ON NOT STEALING THE CLOTHING FROM THE BODY - It was less about that being criminal (stealing) and more about not being caught with something that one could IDENTIFY THE BODY WITH. The grave robbers did not want the relatives or anyone to be able to identify the body - Part 3 of the Marilla Trilogy is coming soon, all is explained.

I'm not sure why I was so invested and emotionally involved with this story. This young gal grabbed my heart. So many thoughts going through my head. The Parents first excited about their daughter being married, then devistated by losing their baby to a disease at such a young age and George losing his young bride, then to be dug up, molested persay, buried in the mud... It's heart breaking. Am I getting sentimental in my old age? Or just cause I have a daughter or me being a Widower?. Rest In Paradise Sweetheart. 🙏✝️

Early christanity taught that if a body was cut up burned etc... That that soul could not enter into eternal peace. Grave robbers in england were the lowest of the low. I can see why such anger arose. I learnedvyrs ago about president garfield i think how his fathers body was discovered by a son in the mortuary hanging like a deer a week after he was buried. Lincolns grave was filled with cement by his last son

The reason the clothes were left behind in the grave was because clothes, or any other item buried there, were considered "property." So while one couldn't be arrested for stealing a dead body as it's wasn't seen as property, steal the dead's stuff... one might be facing jail time. Odd, I know.

Destroying historic architecture was called “urban renewal” in mostly the 1960s. Duluth Minnesota was essentially raped of all of its character over the years. I consider it a crime.
@smokey213964
@smokey213964 2 года назад
I live in Duluth and the city has been destroyed. All of its historic character has all but been leveled in favor of "affordable housing" AKA 1 room 3500 dollar a month unit's, breweries, and overpriced 1-star eateries. Not to mention our inept police force, worthless prosecutor and degenerate mayor. Did you know you can shoot someone downtown in broad daylight, with witnesses and cameras seeing you and the county attorney will let you plead out for 3 years, and that's if you have 6 felonies and have already served a 15 year murder sentence in Illinois. Duluth has turned into one big toilet.

This happened in most countries. People were not willing to donate their bodies to science back then because of religion so most medical schools had no choice but to rely on body snatchers. The infamous body snatchers in the 18th century from Scotland UK are up there with Jack The Ripper. They went from body snatching to serial killers to sell the bodies to a DR. Robert Knox to dissect for his lectures for medical students. Knox was blind in one eye, he knew how the bodies were obtained and when Burke and Hare were arrested Knox was ignored by the police. Hence the expression '' Turned a blind eye.

Amazing story, I was so hoping they would find her body. I started watching for clues, as soon as you started walking through the stones, I'm thinking the clues must be names on the stones. Me being so forgetful thought, I will not be able to remember, I had three I could remember, and stopped at that. The main one was Churchill, only because I am distantly related to some. Later when your looking for her grave, and you had mentioned not knowing if she had married, you also gave her maiden name, I knew you had to go back to the Churchill's plot. I am so happy they took things in their own hands, and did something about it, the poor parents, daughter just buried, and these vile people dig her back up. Most excellent story, and narration Ron. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter.

I could sit for hours and listen to Ron tell stories! I wonder if Ed Gein was a distant relative of this doctor? 😬

I learned about Ed Gein from Obsolete Oddities, a more dark and morbid RU-vid channel, and that particular tale is sick and demented to state the very least.

This story is so sad. I heard and been to St. Charles Missouri but never St. Charles Illinois. When I was selected for the United States National judo team, and had to go live and train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado springs, I had another team mate named Todd Brehee from that general area of Illinois who made the national team a few months before me who I recall talking about grave robbers who was affiliated with a doctor out there. When we were going over our previous historical activity in which we often spoke about prior to visiting cities as it gave the team places to visit and such but he did not cover much about the doctor, just what occured in grave robbing. I am so happy that you explained all this in detail like you did, I am not sure if there was more than one doctor involved though but it sure seems like the same. He also gave us details of the st. Valintines massacre I recall. Oddly Todd still works for the Olympic Training Center but I believe he is a medical professional for the Olympic and national teams now of days at least last year when I contacted our old coach. Todd was the only one from Illinois that I recall. Happy Easter everyone! If you want to talk to Todd on what he knows, I could most likely have it done as we were team mates for two years. Former Olympic bronze medalist (1984 Olympics) Ed liddie who is the current coach for the last two paralympic teams and was our team captain back then works in the same office. I am sure you could get Ed liddie to have Todd reach out if you wanted any other details that he may know about it but you did a fantastic job .
