I've seen Bob Seger 5 times in concert. One time me and 15,000 fans stood and sang the whole 3 hours. I cried when he sang this song because it took me back to high school in 1976. That's when this album came out. I'm a lifelong fan of this great artist, he's in the rockin roll hall of fame and song writers hall of fame. He's an American treasure, keep reacting to this man.

I missed the 1976 concert at Cobo Hall when Live Bullet was recorded, but I didn't miss one of his dates at Pine Knob the following summer. I often tell people that Bob and I went to HS together...15 years apart.

I only saw him once. but it was for Free ! We, my concert going friends went to a Kinks concert and were told by an announcer to hold onto our stubs and they would be good for free ticket to the next Bob Seger concert in San Jose. Oh so many years ago. The seating back upper left) sucked but it was free and the music......AWESOME ! I think I still have the ticket stub. Better than the Kinks.

Bob Seger is a master storyteller, and one of the very best in rock n roll history..From Against The Wind and Night Moves, to Like A Rock and Roll Me Away, just to name a few....He immaculately, and with great care, sets the table for the listener...All that's left for us to do is enjoy the feast....

Bob is a master storyteller. His lyrics are universally relatable, no matter where you grew up. I would go for "Hollywood Nights" and "Like a Rock" next. Hollywood Nights is about a guy who is out of his element far from home, while Like a Rock is a man reminiscing on his youth as a reaches old age.

The 'autumn closing in' line really gets to the heart of this song. I see it as reflecting back to a more innocent time ... when losing one's innocence was a goal for many teens. Now, at a point later in life for the storyteller, he is remembering an earlier time in his life, perhaps with whimsy, maybe a little regret. Or simply acknowledging to himself that he will never experience emotions like that again as he ages. He woke at night to the sound of thunder and wondered how far off it was ... how long ago. Age has a way of creeping up on us and sometimes catching us by surprise. I just turned 64 and I'm trying to figure out how that happened! How can I be a year away from what is considered a senior citizen when 'night moves' of the past still seem so fresh in my memory?

A perfect song for remembering the days of misspent youth, that seemed to last forever, yet now are just whisper on the wind. We remember flashes, and catch glimpses of those days in the corners of our mind. Drive-in movies, hanging out with friends, cruising whatever strip your town had, blasting the radio which including this song at times. What a shame we only get one go around at this thing called life, because we only truly appreciate the times we lived with the benefit of hindsight, or it seems to be that way for me. We are so busy in the moment, trying to survive or help someone else survive that we forget to savor times like these. May God bless us all.

Several lines get me in the feels. "And it was summer time sweet summertime summertime" AS a teenager summer was it! Such good times!! " When you just don't seem to have as much to lose" Sums up adolescence very well. when you have so much to lose it doesn't seem liek it though. When you get older you realize how much you had to lose and the less time you now have left! and of course "autumn closing in" indeed!

One of my absolute favorites!! I love how the song shifts - seems to be about teenage sexual exploration, insecurity - and then comes the break in the middle of the song - the thunder - then thunder shifts from metaphor to literal thunder - and then it’s no longer a memory - it’s the present, and he’s older, and reflecting on the entire life cycle. Magical. So deep. And I really only appreciated it later in my life - when it came out, and I was a teenager, I thought it was corny, and sort of my father’s generation - LOL!! And “started singing a song from 1962.” The year is important - 1963 was the year the America lost her innocence - so it’s right before we lost our innocence.

Bob Seger wrote rock music for adults. I was aware of him in his early days, my 20's, and liked some of his songs, but they didn't really move me. But when I got into my 40's, suddenly his music grew in meaning and depth, once I had enough experience and had lived enough life to understand what his music was telling me. Thanks Bob Seger, and thanks Harri! Give a listen to the "The Fire Inside". A perfect evocation of loneliness (from the point of view of a young woman).

The line in the song "Tight pants, points hardly renowned" is talking about common 1950/1960s clothing styles for teenagers . Points here is referring to metal tips attached to the toes of cowboy boots. The slang for them was points ! Seger got the inspiration for the song after seeing the movie American Graffiti.

This is hands down one of my favorite songs & Artists of all time! I have a personal connection to this song that just gets me every time. Thank God my late Father had Amazing taste in music, bc I grew up on this type of classic rock and classic Southern rock.. there is so much soul and personal experiences put into these masterpieces that unfortunately we don’t get today. Keep up the great work! Please check out The Marshall Tucker Band, and CCR if you haven’t already. ❤️🇺🇸

I love your response to this. Describing the tears in older men's eyes... Yes! For me, summer time is such a huge part of my memories of that age too. When you've got four to eight months of the year bundled from the snow, shorts and warmth make you feel free and alive. You still have that sense of wild playfulness from childhood mixed with the freedom of adulthood, and that's kind of what summer feels like. This is one of my all time favorites.

Favorites (besides 'Night Moves') of mine by Bob Seger are 'Main Street' and 'Like a Rock' (most of us are familiar with pieces of it from Chevy commercials). :)
