Who the hell could seriously dislike this enough to give it a thumbs down? Jealous much? To those who say they play too fast or need to somehow improve...you do realize that the oldest kid in this band is 14. Most musicians don't pick up an instrument for the first time until they're about this age. The kid in the banjo is TEN for krissakes! If you gave this a down vote you need to get a life...seriously.
Absolutely fantastic! I'd listen to them all day and any day over 99% of the crap on the radio. These kids play with heart, such raw talent! Well done lads!
My brothers and I have been working together for 42 Ys it seems like yesterday my dad started our automatic transmission garage we get along great with my son who is with us GOD , I'm lucky 🏁🔧⚙️🔩🗝️😇 P S Thay understand!
This is great bluegrass. I play banjo as well but regarding your statement real music, all music is real to the right listener. I love Bluegrass, folk, rap and heavy metal they are all real to my hears.
I've followed these guys for a couple of years, and I did *not* know they'd done this performance at Ted. Flawlessly done, as I've come to expect from them.
I don't know which I enjoy more.. listening to their music or watching 3 young guys that radiate goodness and wholesomeness. They obviously care and enjoy each other. Kudos to their parents what a great job your doing.
You guys are awesome. We don't have blue grass down here in Argentina, but this style totally reminded me of that Back to the Future III dance for the clock tower inauguration. Very fun to listen too.
I been following these guys for awhile, most entertaining bluegrass I have heard since scruggs.. They are coming to the buckle festival in cincinnati in July 19th 2014. Btw, whoever commented about their name being sleepy man, WHO gives a crap what their name is??!!!! They are talented young boys!! Always got someone thats not happy with something, its their name, and yes they described how they got their name on the letterman show. So just enjoy the talent, and shutup! lol
Amazingly talented! Grew up with grandfather and his friends playing bluegrass/tradition country music every weekend at his house, he would have absolutely loved this.
Efforts of Actor Steve Martin and many other artists to revive the *Art of Banjo Playing* has paid off .... today we have many a young banjo players. Look at the 10 yrs old young artist performing. I hope the same happens to the efforts of reviving the Art of Ukulele Playing. Good Luck to these Young Boys for their future.
What can I say? Fifty years I've been a picker, learned one-on-one from THE one and only Jerry Garcia for a whole year when I was the age of these kids, then for many years taught banjo to hundreds of kids and grown-ups one on one, and by golly, sleepy man, are you gonna run circles around me? Damn you're good!! Sure I could learn a few licks from you. Just a thought: Have you pondered adding a mandolin and a bass player? Anyway, keep on pickin, I always love finding a new clip of you guys to feast my eyes and ears. All the best for continued success!
These kids were unbelievable the first time I heard them years ago. And being that it was Bluegrass when surrounded by rap and rock was even more impressive. I'm looking r new videos. And you, wow learning from Jerry! Im sure that was tough being he played nothing the same twice. Lol.. I'm sure you have memories others dream of. Lately I've learned much probably most from RU-vid. Guitarists in bands I'd have never listened to before are now my heroes. If you ever play on here let mr know. Forgive me I should have started with Hello and I hope you are all healthy and well.
At one point or another throughout the video I was thinking that each player was showing their true colors. An amazing harmony of switching the lead role from person to person. And dang can that boy pick at the banjo.
About the name "sleepy man" - I heard them explain once that when Johnny was younger, due to the heaviness of the banjo, he would lay down on top of the bed, with the banjo on top of him, and learned to play that way, to compensate for the weight. As any banjo player knows, banjos are much heavier than guitars, due to the metal in them. Thus the name "Sleepy Man..."
Dig it dude. Tommy mixes in all kinds of influences - I hear Tony, Skaggs, Doc. Good to know there's some guys younger than me still learning the roots of the music :)
Good job there guys, it's good to see that you don't have to be a southern boy to enjoy bluegrass. Now all you need is some vocals, and piece together some songs... shoot who knows, one of you might become the next Keith Whitley... ? Just stay off the booze if you do.
Pay no attention to people who criticise just to deem some sort of meagre existence in this planet. These kids are incredible musicians and they would be at any age.
