Fun fact she writes ALL of her music, so the meaning and lyrics to her songs are as real as it gets cuz she writes them! She also composes, co-produces, and sometimes even directs her own music and music videos. She comes up with the melodies in her head HERSELF, writes her lyrics, chooses and experiments with beats, instrumentation, all kinds of production, and layers her OWN VOCALS herself, and since she has experience as a background singer from before she became famous, she ALSO does her OWN background vocals and like I said, layers them on herself. So she’s involved in EVERY step of her music making. She’s sooo multitalented it’s insane. She also got admitted into the songwriters hall of fame for being such an amazing lyricist and she has sung almost every genre under the sun. She’s mainly a pop/r&b artist with MAJOR soul/gospel influence but she’s done MUCH more than just that, she’s done hip hop, rock, indie, Motown, new jack swing, etc.. oh and she’s also been credited for popularizing Pop and Hiphop collaborations because she first did it in 1995, and before then it was considered VERY controversial for singers to collab with rappers and it could even ruin their career cuz of racism and stigmatization, (she’s half white and half black btw), but she didn’t care and risked her career in 1995 to make a collab and popularized it, now it’s considered normal and an expectation for singers to feature rappers in their music and we can thank Mariah for that.

So fun fact abt this song, it came out in 2005, and it IMMEDIATELY went #1 and stayed there for 14 WEEKS!!! It was song of the decade for the 2000s because it was SOO huge! Her entire album this song is off of, which is called “The Emancipation of Mimi” (Mimi is her nickname), was HUGE and had SEVERAL huge hits, this one tho was the biggest. And just to give perspective, this was 14 YEARS AFTER the last song u reacted to by her called “Emotions” because “Emotions” came out in 1991 and “We Belong Together” came out in 2005, so it’s a pretty wide gap and just shows HOW long she’s been in the business yet also proves her longevity and STILL being able to have massive hits DECADES into her career. This song is actually her biggest hit song in the US other than “all I want for Christmas is you”, tho probably not her biggest worldwide interestingly enough.

Gooood! The voice this woman has is unreal! We belong together live 2005 BET Blueprint and Mtv Movie awards are the best live performances and her new take and extended version of the song in 2021 was incredible too. Just a reminder why the song is good, instead of a sad anguish tone it has more of a bitter and angrier way so it goes to show the songs versatility

I had mentioned "We Belong Together" on last Mariah reaction, but when this comeback album "The Emancipation of Mimi" (Mimi being Mariah's nickname) w/WBT went Platinum, it was re-released w/bonus tracks, one was "Don't Forget About Us", same vibe as WBT...and in the video Mariah pays homage for her love of Marilyn Monroe by recreating the pool scene in Marilyn's unfinished/unreleased last movie "Something's Got To Give". "Don't Forget About Us" was supposed to go on the next album, but it was near finished, so they put it as a bonus track on the platinum re-release of Emancipation....but I love in "Don't Forget About Us" when Mariah says "that bitch can't do it like me, she'll never be M.C." 💪
