When we lived on Oahu many years ago, my best friend almost drowned in about 2 feet of water - just one wave after the other. Luckily, one of the guys finally realized what was happening and pulled her out. I am a good swimmer, but when I felt the pull of the ocean at Waimea on a pretty calm day, I knew I would never go in more than up to my knees. Kailua was much less intimidating. Still miss the islands. Actually joined a hula halau on the mainland many years after moving back to NY - some of my fondest memories are of dancing and chanting with my hula sisters. Still play the ukulele. I am haole on the outside, but certainly a touch of Hawaiian on the inside. Joey is a beautiful and articulate young woman, very nice to meet her. She has an ono mom who I enjoy watching on the Moving Hawaii videos, although we will never be able to move back, maybe visit for our 50th in a few years. I still like seeing what's going on back in my heart home.

I grew up in the island of Oahu in Kailua, st Louis Hgts, Kaimuki and Palolo. I took the bus everywhere. I went to public schools. No problems taking the bus anywhere. I didn’t drive until I was 27. No need. I skipped school going to Haunama Bay with friends. Went to eat and movies with friends. All of my siblings, I and parents worked. My parents drove cars but we took the bus. My youngest brother took the public bus to kindergarten. No problems. I only took a private bus in preschool or sports in high school.

I took the number 2 bus Waikiki to and from McKinley High back in the sixties. I lived in Waikiki and bused everywhere. No problem!

Kailua sand is more like gulf sand. I agree with your daughter, it's really nice. Makaha sand is so coarse shreds my feet.

These seem like pretty reputable people, and If I may chime in (former Hawaii resident ....26 years): If you/family, etc., are contemplating relocating to Hawaii, my advice? #1: Do a TON of research first....even if it takes several years, INCLUDING understanding the Culture (very important) there first. So do not relocate on a "whim." I've seen that way too many times over the years, and for many, it doesnt work out for them. This might include visiting two or even three times first (and NOT as a "tourist"), before taking the big "plunge". Costly, yes. But totally worth it in the LONG run! #2: Do NOT move there unless you can afford to be COMFORTABLE. And with this inflation now (which is destroying everybody), this is absolutely critical. Otherwise, and I can almost guarantee, you will be miserable! And in a year, you'll be on that plane mainland bound. But these folks seem to be a good start. Anyways, that's it! Blessings.

Great video! I grew up on Oahu and now live on the mainland. Somebody told me from back home that Hawaii has a bully culture. I didn't think so or at least it's as bad as the mainland but not worse. What you think?

well it's healthy to talk about it because somebody just nerfed me when I offered them a free jacket so I gave it to a homeless guy who was very grateful to receive it

If you think teenagers are tough to raise, wait until they hit their 20's. When they are living on their own, it's worrying on steroids😂
