That's great to see that the company is working hard to do this work, the environment is all we have and it needs to be looked after. Thanks for showing us this Mark... great stuff.

Thanks, Mark. Always appreciate your journeys out into the field where we learn more about railroading, and in this particular case the wide ranging impact of a derailment.

Thanks for the update and video. Let's hope there's not another derail after all the work was done there.

Hello Mark! Thanks for Not so interesting part after a Derailment but Remediation is a very Important piece for the Railroads to make Good in Nature. Thanks for Update!

That BNSF was awesome. Unusually huge amount of reefers, mid and rear dpu’s and seeing the sanders going on the head end was pretty cool.

6:19 ... surely that door on the wagon should not have been open...? You answered my question... I replayed it and saw some items were missing from the pallet.

Is the sanding automatic, when the system senses wheel slip, or is it totally manual?

What are things you have always wanted to do for fun you just haven't ever no matter if it was for this or your other channel or not for RU-vid?

Greetings Mark, I am concerned by what I see starting at marker 3:43, and particularly at markers 4:07 and 4:20, where the nature of the sub-soil seems to be very granular, i.e. with no boulders and rocks, and with a slope that appears to be close to the "soil's angle of repose". This means that the sub-grade can become unstable, particularly if it is subject to soil fluidification from heavy precipitations and steady vibrations from the passage of rail traffic. Furthermore, I see no culvert below the track-bed to allow the drainage of the up-slope without saturating the sub-grade, thereby weakening it. Such a situation is particularly insidious, as the signal system is unable to detect such a loss in structural integrity. Although I see the current remediation measures as necessary, they are far from sufficient to ensure the long-term integrity of the roadway and hence, its safety. Hence, the underground root network, present or future, should not be relied upon to provide the required long-term cohesion at the sub-grade level. From my remote location, I am bringing my concerns to your attention, hoping that you can bring the matter to the attention of your colleagues in the road engineering department. Regards. 2024/04/09. Ontario, Canada.

I know nothing of such things, nor do any of my railroad contacts. This area is almost all decomposed granite, and as to boulders, there were none here to begin with, just trees, and it has held for 150 years. These aren't railroaders, are remediation contractors. Their plan was approved by the powers that be, and iff the the railroad, the nature conservancy, and dept of fish and game signed off on the work, anything some retired signalman has to say will fall upon deaf ears. Thanks for checking it out!

@@MarkClayMcGowan Thanks Mark. We should have a lot of respect for soil mechanics where slow or apparently non-existent movements are often an illusion to something leading to catastrophic failure when the right conditions occur. In other words, such considerations address the (invisible) load bearing capabilities of a load-bearing soil, whereas remediation efforts are generally focused on the (visible) overall appearance of the area, particularly its conformity with the original layout. It is unfortunate that management is often deaf to warnings, but this will not change the laws of physics. I would nonetheless encourage you to persist in raising the awareness. Thank you Mark. 2024/04/09. Ontario, Canada.

Did you report to the railroad the box car with the open door? That product could fall out and hurt somebody

Here's the link to my "Desert Railroading" playlist. I've done them out that way at Edwards, Barstow, Daggett, and Topock. Every time I think about going further out, gas goes up again, but I will try to get out that way more often. Thanks for checking it out. ru-vid.com/group/PL6ge3RoxmyvoG5Ta1sv_lS9VwPjGgS1Tv
