They are all at the level: I can understand what they say but I can't speak it. Except Lee who is bilingual (and more, I hope he can understand his native Chinese but can also speak it...)
I can say Tekken series is the most balance fighting game arcade which has the most various battle combo and unique martial art style for each character. Unlike some fighting game where each character has similar punch combo. But somehow, lately they try to follow the others by adding cinematic storyline like Mortal Kombat and many newcomer fighting game arcade. Just like MK, Tekken's story doesn't give any impact to those who "play for plot". Many plot hole inside the main story about Mishima saga as if the team didn't create any storyboard from the start. They try to put twist that Heihachi is actually a Chaotic Good, but it fails miserably because it seems too abrupt For the fighting gameplay itself, I give 10/10 But for the story..... 5/10 is the most generous from me. Graphic : 9/10 On the side note : R.I.P. Heihachi (1994 - 2015)
NihilisticIdealist Set aside the gameplay and battle mechanics, to me, Tekken storyline is like typical shounen anime popular by kids and fanboy. While MK storyline is like typical Hollywood action, too simple, focus on action, and the sequel often break the prequel's storyline (MK 9 & MK X are related) Both are not the best to me.
why is everyone crapping on the story? it wasn't perfect, but it was & is times better then the anime, cgi, live action & tekken 6 story put together. i mean everyone complained for years about tekken not having a proper story & now we get one you guys still complain.
loafhero Lets be honest here, the main knock against T7 story is how its told by the monotone reporter. You talk about the Heihachi & Kazuya being "evil pricks who are only in it for themselves". So question, what makes Jin's method in T6 for ridding the world of Azazel justifiable & Heihachi's method of ridding the world of the devil not justifiable?
I knew they weren't finish with this....but it still seems off and missing something, and I hardly doubt Heihachi is dead (He surprisingly survived through alot of shit throughout the Tekken years). Kazumi so far seems like a useless story added in. IDK where they going with this, I've been a Tekken fan since day 1 and one thing I appreciated about the game is their soundtrack. Nicely Done MKICeandfire
59:03 we kinda mis the old full devil kazuya form in tekken 8 it has some dante-sque feel to it not quite as the tekken 2 but close enough he got literally lasered from space and didn't even accused the hit
So at the end there wasn't any tournament, Akuma is useless, Jin didn't do shit but sleep throughout the whole story, about 90% of the roster wasn't used, Kazumi wasn't strong enough, and Jun is still nowhere to be found. All time it took to.make this game and the delays and at the end we get a big pile of crap.
Parts of this was interesting, but as a whole this story left a bad taste in my mouth with more questions than answers. It seemed like Harada and his crew were attempting to "redeem" Heihachi here before he meets his fate, trying to give a sort of justification for his killing Kazumi and throwing Kazuya off a cliff. In the end though, it was a miss. People have just viewed him as an evil character for too long, the thought of a "noble" Heihachi just doesn't work. Heihachi is the epitome of a scheming, plotting, power hungry, narcissistic, Machiavellian tyrant, and that's what's made him so enduring. Trying to give less evil intentions for his actions is like putting chocolate sauce on a gourmet pizza. I too was not a fan of the English narrator at all…a completely unnecessary addition. The main story hardly used any of the main roster characters, I would have liked to have seen more of a role from Claudio, Shaheen, hell, even freaking Jin. The "protagonist" of the series was reduced to a mere bit player, quite disappointing. In all fairness, I did like the part where they made mention of the Hachijou family, their intentions and history. I'd like to see this element fleshed out more in future installments, as I think there's a lot of potential there. All In all, I'd give this one a C.
Michael Allen I don't see Jin as the protagonist of the series at all. He wasn't even in the first two games. In my opinion, the story of the Mishima family had been the main focus, and I commend them for trying to close that chapter in the story mode, to allow for new things to happen.
Totally agree that new things need to happen, and I'm glad that they are looking like they are finally going to. Of course you're right about Jin in the first two games, but really, for 20 out of the 25 years that Tekken has been around, Jin has been central to everything in the big picture sense. I would argue that his part in the story for a majority of the numbered games up to T7 has been much more central than his relatives. He has also, for the most part (minus the one obvious fact that he started freakin' World War 3 in T6, for "noble reasons") been much more "good guy" than either Kaz or Heihachi for that time. At this point, I'm really not sure if there is a true protagonist of Tekken. Lars might come the closest right now?? Everybody's seriously flawed!
Michael Allen Yeah, it is true that Jin has been the focus of the series as a whole, and he is the most archetypally protagonistic. But all in all the story has focused on the Mishima/Kazama family issues, and how they affect the world. I don't imagine it'll change that much, but with Heihachi's death, at least there is some permanence for a fighting game story, which usually doesn't change too much about its characters. Also, the fact that all the characters are flawed, and none are really "good" is a plus in my opinion. I find it more compelling than "do no wrong" characters, who just are strong because of their goodness.
I don't like the fact that for many people, it's either black and white so now despite all he have done, Heihachi is a good guy to them but the fact that Jin (who is indeed somehow the protagonist despite his crazy war decision which doesn't make him the entirely good guy either) is missing from most of the story is good since it gives more time to focus on the other Mishimas, we know Jin will be in the next game anyway and will play a big part killing Kazuya and maybe even sacrificing himself, I don't know (I hope Jun will come back in that part since her son and her former lover will be the main focus of the story, she would be a good addition). But they should indeed have included more characters to the story, I like the Mishima but like many say, instead of the boring journalist, they could have put Lei, investigating. And also include more characters to the story even if not big roles (like Anna and Bruce should have been with Kazuya, even if they would not have said much, they are his allies and bodyguards). And if we forget those who didn't even make it to the game, Claudio seems mostly useless for a new guy introduced for his competencies, they could have given him more. While in G-Corp, they could have tried giving a small role to Lucky Chloe. Maybe some fighters like Paul or Feng could have met Akuma. And Kazumi is disappointing since she is not even a boss, she dead, she's long dead, one fight in the past and that's all. She should have come back as a ghost or something like many expected. But overall, I like the story since it does end one part of the Mishima saga and I don't think it's badly written. There is some emotions to it and the graphics are good.
Tht fight seen get me so pumped up and so intrenched into the game, especially the little cutscenes in-between the fight showing the previous games cutscenes
