Imagine u just started playing ranked. Your learned your combos you a ready to go and than you meet TheMainMan with his Tekken god prime Kazuya on beginner ranks using you as a Tutorial for youtube xD
I just realized i faught a Kazuya player following this exact advice lol. I thought they came from SF because they seemed to know defense with zero offense but I guess they were just hoping I'd run up and kill myself 😂
@@bonfist7277 apparently when I do this as a new Victor player I'm the literal salt of the earth and should kill myself. :v Or at least that's been the tone of quite a few post match messages I've gotten. :/
Right at the very beginning of the video he literaly said not to try and play well if they are a beginner, but if you belive them to not be a beginner then play normal Tekken, which is exactly what he did with like one exception
I've been preaching that to my viewers for years, I think it's because I'm a little older as well though, I was always taught to give credit where it's due
Never understood the hate for beginners. People act like the first time they played a fighting game they were high level gods. Everyone starts somewhere. I commend TMM on his constructive comments and even occasional praise of newer players.
How to actually play Kazuya vs low ranks: - df2 at round start and whenever you want - spam ff2 and auto electric - db4 and hellsweep whenever its your turn and you think they are freezing - try always to use 112(hit confirm the 2) as a block punish - Spam your 1+2 throw, especially after heat engagers or heat dashes( on block) - sprinkle in low jab into WS1+2 If you feel pressured - Use f2 or activate heat against pressure as well - if you get a knockdown spam ff4 multiple times to check if they techroll - Just once or twice per match use uf4444 - Learn 1 easy reliable combo and wallcombo - Have fun
idk, I always prefer fighting against as many different players using different characters as possible rather than refight the same guy over and over. Win or lose, never rematch, just go straight to the next one.
@LonesomeSparrow7 I think fighting someone a 2nd or 3rd time is good, because any lesson you learnt in the 1st might be reinforced and learnt even more. Also some my most fun fights so far have been on the rematch after getting beaten. Even if I lose again, if I take 1 or 2 rounds more it feels like progress
Thank you, main man. Too many people in the community are coaching people wrong. Telling them to try to play like a TGO at 1dan, telling them to mind their frames and learn kbd, and they lose their minds when I tell them to do what they get away with at their level. You can't go from 1dan to TGO is one step by imitation. It's a progression. Today's winning strat is tomorrow's bad habit. No shortcut.
This is so TRUE!! I took that advice when I first started playing Tekken 7 three years ago and I just got absolutely obliterated by people in the low ranks spamming all their strings and gimmicks.
@@bruhmoment8326 I disagree a little bit. On the one hand, yeah you can spam B2,4 and dickjab ws1+2 and pummel the brainlets to death, I suppose that teaches you what it feels like when the other guy is against the ropes, but on the other hand you can at least maintain spacing and hit them with demon paws and things like that, something that will translate to higher ranks better. Getting started in T6 I would do 1,2,4 and then df2 into counter hit, and would get big launch damage in scrub ranks but then hit the wall in yellow and didn't understand. Or I thought the whole game was about how fast you can whip out your electrics and that just got me to the point where when it connected it was great, but when it didn't I got destroyed. One could foster flowcharting instead of playing this game consciously
I can't say how good this advice was. I have never played any version of Tekken before and just picked up Tekken 8. Did my first ever match online as Yoshimitsu against Azucena after doing story as Yoshi. I had absolutely no idea what to do as she was running circles round me. But I just patiently waited, blocked, and looked at what I could do. No button spam. Lost the first two rounds but then won the final three by seeing where I could attack her in her spam. I'm still rubbish but you were spot on. 10/10 thank you for the advice!
Honestly I think it would be so Cool to the see the whole rank up process like this here on youtube. Would be super unique to see some one as good as you through the ranks explainging at different ranks what to look out for. Great job!
God damn... this was an incredible watch! it's amazing how TMM understands the mindset of new players and commentating during the match is just icing on the cake.
After that Hwoarang landed the final blow at 25:54, the following silence and your facial expression told me that you were about to ruin this guy’s day with the next round… lol and you definitely did not disappoint
Hey MainManSWE, love the videos, had to say that I found your how to coaching series very enlightening and it changed the way that I view and play Tekken, I originally gotten to the middle of the orange ranks with Ling but felt as if I only really got there because not many people that I fought seemed to know the match up or just can't block her DF 3. I picked up Jin after watch your eight minute video about him with a focus of fundamentals and practicing what you talked about having a game plan in mind and waiting to see what my opponent is doing and I've noticed improvements in my own game play, that and 1 3 4 with Jin is a scrub killer in the beginner ranks, people blowing their load when they have heat etc, gotten some plugs and people that don't rematch. But overall I am loving Tekken hope I get to play some matches with you at some point. Thanks again MainMan.
@@kylespevak6781 thats unbelieveble. I start to playing Kazuya like 2 or 3 months and still struggling with eletrics, they are hard to do. You never play tekken and you already can do it? Crazy
I just want say thanks to you and max. I used to be very casual with fighting games especially tekkan but last year i wanted to try to actually get decent at a fighting so i bought tekkan 7 with all its dlc around this time last year and I feel in love with it. I can’t wait to get T8 and transfer everything Ive learned
This was super interesting to watch from a beginners perspective. Probably would have smashed my controller if I was on the receiving end but I wasn’t so it was fun
Good video. Cracks me up that 20 minutes of it is good advice for a beginner and the rest is, "yeah i have to play normal." Sums up the online rank experience.
an idea for a coaching series with guests from chat/content creators, 1 on 1 sessions & how they can improve at that certain rank blue, green orange ranks
hey main man, I started playing the game about five mounths ago and I'm maining kazuya and it's been so difficult but your videos help me alot and it's so fun seeing a pro kazuya in action
It's a long journey. He has a couple quality of life improvements in this game but he's still sorely lacking a 15f easymode standing launcher, pokes, and now a long range punisher.
@@Dallas4090 I will say FF2 makes fighting cheese backsway characters a lot easier now. Trying to fight Feng in T7 was absolute aids because you had no safe, deep striking mid to deal with his backsway bullshit. F+3 was even slower, and that's all you had as an option select.
This really helped me out with Lili, was trying to do combos with her when all my opponents were doing was spamming moves, after watching this video I decided to spam Lili’s moves and it really helped, I got to brawler rank with a 17 win streak.
Thank you for the advice! Spammers can be really demoralizing. As a beginner though, I'm worried that if I just use these two moves to cut through the low ranks, suddenly I'll be at high ranks where this no longer works, but I'll be playing against players who are so much better than me that it will be difficult to learn because I'm getting absolutely blasted because all I know how to do is two moves that don't work anymore. Would it not make more sense to try and learn your fundamentals and implementation of your good moves at a lower rank where you aren't going to be crushed for being kind of bad at it?
Personally, I think if you know the fundamentals well enough to utilize "2" safe moves, then you are probably decent in general. I think that the 2 moves technique is good for just getting wins against spammers. Against regular players, I think it's better to play how you normally play.
You can and that's how I got better but it will take a long time and you'll have to have a good mindset when doing this because trust me, you will get absolutely obliterated. You will have to approach every match with the goal of learning something new and test what moves that your opponent does is punishable. To test if it is, use your fastest attack that your character has which in the case for Kazuya, it's 112 which comes out at 10 frames. When it is punishable, start experimenting with other moves in your arsenal that come out even slower to see if you can get an even more damaging punish. This is the approach I took but it will take time and only with experience will you eventually get much better at the game.
That's when you start learning how to get better, these two moves are just a starting point and an example of how you can play. You add more moves and tactics later
Thx to your video there was attack of Kazuya clones trying to mimick your play style. I didn't have to worry about hellsweeps when climbing rank with June. Got to Shinryu with her. 😁
Tip for Asuka players in low rank. Please start with parry move. As soon as you hear that "Fight" sound press parry and thank me for free dmg. People in low ranks start mashing quick moves as soon as round starts Edit: Ok obviously dont start EVERY round with it. Just one of the three rounds you play against opponents. 60% of the players start mashing 1,2 as soon as round starts and they will get parried, those who dont start with it and see you parry, forget that it lasts for about 2 seconds. They wait a bit then try to hit you and still get parried. Obviously this will not work in high levels
I even saw a yellow Asuka parry after every hit but that okay style doesn’t go far It’s just easy to smash them when you know they’re about to do hit Hit them parry. Hit them parry. A yellow Asuka is the same except they just hop kick when you go low Then they go back to the parry when you start to play normal
I'd recommend against this because this will become a bad habit and if someone is smart or cautious they will see you parry and can punish accordingly or atleast do a big attack that'll hit hard
@@falconofthenight008i agree. ive seen enough asukas at ryujin who were complete booty because they spammed parry like this even at that level. it will be worse since u cant chicken so itll likely be a bad habit for a lot of asukas
Like a few other player said here, don't do this. Parry is awesome if they punch or kick into it, but you can easily get hit low, or unbreakable grabbed out of it. Even low rank players will figure that out eventually.
This is great. My biggest issue with the game right now is actually finding opponents in ranked. Takes so long. And when i do, it makes losing feel really bad.
Honestly this is better than a formal tutorial video. I'll try swallow my fear and hit ranked with Asuka (don't hate me). I think it would be worthwhile to redo the series for the next wave of begginners and intermediates when the "more seasoned" players filter through.
As a completely new tekken player, I'll mention the arcade quest mode actively teaches you to string heat engage into heat smash early on and really never goes deep into the benefits of heat.
1:01:30 not sure if TMM realizes but the arcade quest teaches you the heat burst + heat smash as the very first combos. as a noob myself it took me a while to realize i should prolly try to use heat a little more efficiently, but thats why so many do it i imagine.
OK as a filthy new player this was wonderful. I was always looking for a pattern, always looking for a constant opening, but there wasn't one it's as random as when I push buttons. Blocking really is the smartest thing to do at this level.
Can you please comment on TAA? Providing more Anti-Aliasing options in the games settings would allow for better game clarity during motion. It is my hope that increased awareness about this will help grease the wheels and help make Tekken an even better product for us all to enjoy
Even with the frustration of lower rank spam, there’s so much in this game I’m having so much fun regardless Crouch jab and focusing on punishes makes lower ranks good practice. Then there’s learning king’s throws…
@@riastradhFr Drag has been my Tekken character rival for Part 8. Once I got caught by his snakeedge once I was at the results screen lmao. Its been real fun
I also go into Tekken like TMM, like a noble teacher… who drops 3 rounds while thinking I still have that advantage then is forced to mash if they want to see tomorrow I’m at orange atm but it’s just sad how quickly my calm and studious mentality is turned into 50/50 fiending Part of what makes these guides hard to follow is that you also know when to block and when to interrupt A player that doesn’t know what’s coming might feel forced to press buttons if a low has got them in the past It’s not so easy to know when you can afford to be patient
This lesson about adapting to the level you’re facing and focusing on simple and effective setups is really sinking in, as someone who defaults to trying to replicate a semi high level looking playstyle but can end up eating shit to beginners. Thanks
"We take the punish, into our beginner combo" - Which started with 3 dash EWGF's xd i feel so bad for this king, promotion and everything. For the greater good i suppose.
Everyone saying TMM is bullying these spammers but really he's teaching them a valuable lesson. Spamming only gets you so far. Maybe he is actually saving people from continuing to spam?
@TrollFaceLaunch0 yeah maybe that was kinda mean how iworded that maybe you would've preferred I say they just keep going but it's OK to realize not everything is for everyone. If losing to someone better than you enough to make you stop then you probably don't have business messing with that thing. At least not seriously (ranked).
@@Zwarrior2FiresI also think it’s lame af you can’t rank down until yellow ranks. They do shit like that to make noobs feel better, but once they realized the ranking system has been lying to them the whole time, what good is it for anyone? Stupid.
That Lili plays a lot like I do, to the point where I could predict the moves she was gonna throw out a few times. Hearing TMM compliment her gave me 2nd hand confidence boost lol
My main issue is getting use to the Heat System and utilizing it like you should…. Haven’t played Tekken since TTT2 so my head space is still on bound moves lol the Rage Art is not that big ac deal to me but even seeing how people can really apply pressure in Heat or extended combos with it I main Leo and be trying to do Tag 2 combos with her still lol
I might be too late but after we make it through the lower ranks using these tactics, what would be the best method to learn the game for upper ranks? The replay feature? I started to hit the lab with the replay feature to learn how to punish, duck or continue blocking to learn when my turn starts.
Hope he uploads his Rejna ranked play, I made the mistake of subbing during the special style Jin it was absolute comedy but he was never going to see it.
I totally agree with the point about players that pick certain characters seem to only be interested in people getting blown up by their main flows. Sometimes even when i got beaten, because i didnt go down easily, they wouldnt rematch! Its just soo crazy to me! How are u going to get better if u only play people u can just blow up easily?? I mean even if you're just playing for fun! Well you're not playing for fun if u do that in my opinion, your playing to try and show off to people that dont understand Tekken... the 'my rank is the only thing that matters' players , I think anyone that understands about tekken knows that rank does not tell the whole story at all.
This is the first tekken I've gotten into, and I am really struggling to find content that is geared towards newer players beyond just Heat explanations. This has been so much more useful, and I hope that you continue this series. Probably doesnt help that I am trying to main Reina
I think a healthy way to progress is to play w some friends. If they do something u really can't grasp to punish or avoid, ask em about it. That or add ppl from casuals u find good, most ppl on PC are willing to talk
Lmao bro seeing Kaz wavu wavu must be terrifying as a beginner. That's one of those things that alone shows the player is skilled even for those who probably don't even know what it is.
I’m getting stomped by people in lower ranks than I and then doing the same to people above me. I feel like the ranks are wildly all over the place currently, but maybe I’m just having a rough time opening people up with Steve. Thoughts? 2nd note, how accurate are those like “A+ blocker” stats or whatever? I think mine is showing S+ side swapper, A+ block up, A heavy hitter or close combatant. Idk if those really mean anything
I'm currently downloading tekken 8 and this will be my first tekken outside of a quite tournament, if you can call it that, that me and my buddies did at a party on tekken tag 2. I'm exited to learn it and was wondering what characters I should try and wait to use till i gain some better fundamentals.
how about a series zero to hero, where you grab a beginner watch a few of his matches and we follow his progression to the top, with tips etc ( i volunteer as tribute :) )
That Lili let you get away with murder. He hesitated when you wave dashed in his face constantly instead of punishing you for it. He's crazy patient though.
I’ve gotten to Vanquisher (new Tekken player) and I’m often getting destroyed as soon as I’m on the ground and against the wall. Feels like it’s never ending attacks at that point and I can’t block anything when I try to get up. That’s been my main issue.
The name of this video should just be “why sidestepping is important” Do another video going through the ranks doing the same thing without sidestepping and see how far you get it would be interesting to see
I am at Eliminator rank (dan 14) and by golly it is such a struggle to progress from this point. It really feels like i now get pit against people that are ridiculously good or just spammers that i genuinely don't really know how to deal with.
I remember in old tekken games the lee AI on ultra hard will do this seemingly infinite string that will poke you low mid and high and now here i am watching veteran player calling it some rookie stuff. I feel so stupid right now but at least now i get it
