So like many of you I wrote off "special style" as basically, handholding for babies at the start. However, are aspects of Special Style sort of... abusable? I think so as this video goes into. This isn't SF6 modern controls, you can swap in and out of special style at will on the fly, and the alleged "downsides" of something like a special style electric wind god fist I really don't think are bad at all as we go into the video in depth, so give a watch, like if ya liked it, and let me know what you think!
What is funny about it- if you mashup this console inputs with normal inputs you can use probably easiest ~70-85dmg combos(Reina, confirmed). Im using it sometimes because of time- for me its much more easier to use EWGF with it than without it. So... simply when you hybrid it it's very useful. Especially on the beginning to have fun and later when you want to learn this game.
Can you chain them together? It's common to do 3 or 4 ewgf to juggle the opponent for big damage, but with baby mode i assume it just continues the auto combo
I generally do the opposite when it comes to easy inputs in fighting games, I expect the devs don't fully understand that some char get really powerful easy inputs. It happened in SF6 and it seems it happened in T8. I don't even feel it's good for beginners to have easy inputs available in ranked, it might also discourage the new players that want to learn regular inputs but then lose often to other beginners mashing 1. Easy inputs is much better not being in ranked.
The mishima Special Style should be a WGF not an electric. I believe thats how it was in 7. Plus on block, fast recovery, pushback, frame perfect launcher should not be on one button lol
Yeah there’s no reason for it to be the perfect input. You don’t need the perfect for the mash combo. No reason to give the plus frames. If they want to make it safe on block that’s one thing, but the full +5 plus frames is unnecessary
I don’t hate special style but as a newer tekken player who only played 7 and tekken tag 2 part of the fun is learning how to do inputs but I get some people just want to play the game and not worry about inputs
@@ShikiRyougi05 yeah It kinda sucks too because I feel like out of 10 time I can probably only do 2-3 myself but I think they did that so Mishima’s are easier for newer people to pick up and use
Alright next video HOPEFULLY should be the first of our Tekken 8 character guides, due to being by far the most requested it will be King! Also we should finally slip back into other games soon as the big Evo announcement event is soon, new Ed info has to be like... sometime soon right? and who knows what else
I've been playing since tekken 3, but 1 year ago I was diagnosed with arthritis, some of my finger tendons are permanently damaged and special style gives me a chance of playing my favorite game series of all time
Can nobody tell anyone how to play if he wanna use special moves he can no matter if it’s ranked or regular he bought the game there for he can play how he wants cause I’m for sure using it rather you like it or not
i love how this feels like it's balanced just by telling the other playing on screen you are using 1 button mode and having to deal with the shame of it lol
Yesterday, my first set against a Victor online was one who toggled on and off the special style and I lost. It was frustrating to say the least, but I'll take notes for next time I face someone who plays like that, lol!
@@dramamine755 I can see why bro can get frustrated, imagine putting in time and effort to learn the in’s and out of a character but a person who toggled special style can do all that with just spamming one button. Tbh I think using special style hinders the user in properly learning fundamentals but for a causal player I can kinda see why they don’t wanna put in the hours into a single character.
You have me seriously considering turning special style on for just a half second so I can get an Electric. I started practicing God Fists in Tekken 7 two months ago in preparation for Reina and to this day every single Electric I've done has been 100% by accident.
keep at it you will get it! what i do is input drills, do the same input 10 times in a row no mess ups, if you do start again, mabie 2 3 times a day and you will improve! its how i learnt super input in ggst
I wish games would stop adding this stuff. Takes all the fun out of learning how to really play and reduces skill. Either make everyone use modern or no one. Stop being cowards and putting in both
@@FailToilet yeah but there's no need for special style cuz now u can't get demoted for the first 10 ranks and by the time u reach the that hill u will already be better at the game so there is no need for special style.all special style dies is ruining the fun for us the ppl who want to actually learn the game
@@JungleOfMeat how about you trying to learn to play the game instead.if u want so badly to mash buttons u can go play something else besides fighting games
@@OhNoTheFace Theres something positive about this : its always the same moves, you can easily get past this, once its brought up, you know what to expect.
I'm torn on it. Tekken 8 being my first since Tag, it helped me see the combos for people I don't know and made story mode fun without knowing everyone. But...Ranked is essentially nonstop people pulling off ridiculous combos in low ranks compared to me struggling to learn new combos.
@@jackdaniels5569 why you practicing in a live match? Make it make sense u dnt pop open a game and instantly hop online you’re gonna get folded and feel shitty. I said wtf i said.
If people are going to use this then I no longer want to hear ANY complaining about leverless fighsticks being unfair. I don't think "special style" should be allowed in online ranked tbh. Unpopular opinion, I know.
Skill issue. Special style basically tells you their inputs and does the exact same moves. If you can’t punish them for it by side stepping or other choices, then you’re just not good enough for a higher rank.
@@usmansubhani7482 Your comment is insanely arrogant. Not everyone is a Top 10 US player like you who can just read inputs like a book. Some people are new to that series and want to learn it the true way without making use of Special Style. Quite hard if some newcomers are going the "easy" way by just sticking to Special Style right away.
@@usmansubhani7482 Also. Tell me what platform you play on as well as your gamertag in Tekken 8. So we can factcheck if you are really as good as you pretend here.
@@Shin-iv6ycbut the whole point of ranked is that you’re a rank that represents your skills. Casuals aren’t really expected to reach high levels. And if switching between stylish to normal controls is viable in lower ranks, well so be it. Let the casuals play as they want with each other. But those that want to reach higher ranks, the least they can do are learn how to punish these combos.
Only people that rely on it are scrubs, they dont even realise you’ve already adapted to the 1 launcher they’re just spamming, then they try to do lows and mess up cause they dont even know what moves going to come out
Learning to do it yourself is so much more rewarding than taking the easy way out just because you want to see the flashy stuff. I'm still working on my manual electrics.
Game needs heat waaaay toned down, and rage arts removed from rank as well. Scrubs are using their one button combos getting wrecked, then you cant touch em cause they will use their i win button and pretend they amazingly outplayed you. Now they have heat,u cant attack, they get to spam endless 50 50s, chip damage too,and still dont attack....you jab? BOOM rage art. They then use their one button super move as heat bar dwindles and get 50% of ur bar. You get up throw a punch, rage art. You lose Game is so tailored to babies its absolute bull s hit. I find it hard to score in fifa so i want a 5-0 headstart and a auto score button. No i dont need to practise and git gud,if the babies dont have to in tekken
Thank you so much for making a video on this. I'm a fighting game player that used to only stick to games like for honor and lethal league because as a disabled person, the depth of inputs was too much for street fighter and games like this one. The existence of modern and special style allow me to play competitively for the first time and I've picked up these games and I am enjoying an immensely fun time. Especially with the ability to toggle on and off. It allows me to do what I can in normal mode and supplement if there are any inputs that are too difficult because of the way my hands work. I really like your content. Thank you for making videos like this that make the game more accessible to people with disabilities. I'm so happy I can use modern and special style in ranked as well.
I think it'd be neat if they had options for how the special style appears mid match, such as condensing it to just the buttons off to the side. could be a nice thing to have for improving players and for players using it for shortcuts like this
Bro I just want to play this game somewhat casually somewhat seriously just play for fun and learn my character and I hate this special shit it doesn't feel like modern in SF it feels like they have a calculator in algebra class and you only got paper
This is so much worse than modern sf6. I could actually climb the ranks by rolling my face across my controller with special haha. Im just gonna dq when I see special in ranked
git gud? tekken has always been baby mode, the ceiling was always the checks, side steping, throw breaks and KBD. other then electrics, DS, Lee and a few other characters that has execution requirement to play optimally there's close to no execution requirement that's why the floor for tekken is one of the lowest of all the fighting games out there
I've always played as Mishimas and I hate this easy mode thing. Tekken has always been a game that rewards execution this makes things way too easy in my opinion.
Special Style has a big Issue that makes it worse then SF6 Modern Mode. Modern Mode in SF6 has pros and cons, yeah you get stuff like instant Shoryukens but you lose Access to a lot of your moveset and you do less Damage. The Big Issue with Special Style is that it almost has no disadvantages because you can opt in and out freely mid match, it should be like SF6 modern mode where you have to choose on the Character select Screen, either they change it this way or they need to remove electrics from Special style.
... Why are people not mentioning the obvious negative side to this not mentioned in the video, oh right here are the SF players that don't realize EWGF has utility outside being an uppercut to use in neutral. For most Mishimas, this is your main and only launch punisher from standing, while other characters start launching at -15, Mishimas get to launch punish at -13 or -14 depending on the character and obviously at 18 frames it's just not usable there. Next, there is a lot of value in delaying your EWGF for various reasons, in particular in combos. Also some people in the comments seem to believe it was just a WGF in T7 assist mode, it was full electric, I believe it was slower but maybe even the same speed.
Honestly I'd prefer to not be a special style especially in ranking where ppl are doing honest grind(except boosters and hackers)where they are putting the fruits of their training to the test
Also some characters have near inescapbale juggles (yes im bad) availiable through this, one of the bears (i dunno which one because ot was a stupid ass custom skin) can launch you and then leap at you to spon you again with like 2 buttons over and over.
I hate those modes. I understand they are meant to easy new players into those games, but they shouldn't ever be available in ladder play. I'm a bad/tryhard player and losing to people I KNOW are playing another game really ruins my day.
I think the only people who actually care about people using special style are the people who are actually garbage lol This is my first tekken actually playing and I’m a Bryan in Fujin, I switch through special mode mid combo and people get mad lol
Wouldn’t buy the game if it didn’t have special style. Dpad sucks for fighting games and I don’t care for stick..but this makes it better. Special Style will stay.
It’s great for new comers. But it’s very predictable once you graduate from it. Yesterday, I fought a devil jin abusing power crush with it so I just grabbed dude continuously and bro was not teaching the throws. Shit was hilarious 😂
This is kinda broken for people that use keyboard macros tbh. Usually if they macro something like EWGF they have to macro 2 keys, one for each side, but with this its literally 1 button EWGF, 1 button hellsweep. People are still figuring out stuff with special style tap to optimize combos or make them more confortable/consistent, but if keyboard macros becomes something widespread it will be kind of a problem in the future.
You could use it to make your oppenet think that you need to rely on it, and then just throw it out normally.... I love pandas kick and I'm kinda thinking of using it in that way
It's great for story mode/arcade or people who really just want to casually button mash, but imo in online lobbies there should be an option for it and in ranked it should be completely disabled.
I also feel like it should be a setting to turn it on like in street fighter and they should put normal players vs normal players and special mode players vs special mode players
In theory, I don't mind this type of stuff with special style or modern controls, but I don't want it in competitive online play. It only brings more and more problems as we discover
I don't think I can as a Kaz player. I just imagine Kazya saying "pathetic..." if i cheated out an electric. Learning the execution IS part of the character I chose.
Tmw you button mash regardless of the control style… I’m a tekken newb though and at least I’m starting to feel like I’m button mashing a little less than before
@rooflemonger I respect your willingness to keeping an open mind for these kinds of play options. As fellow "old" man, it's very easy to fall into a mindset that actively rejects shortcuts to skills we have spent years (errr...decades) honing, but if we are intellectually honest the truth is that we don't really want there to be a physical barrier keeping the player base from being as large as it can be. We just don't want our hard-earned experience to become meaningless. Time has a tendency to be a bit of a jerk though, and with each passing year the bendy bits and the ends of my arms get just a smidge less reliable (and pain-free). I like that the people making a genre of games that I adore are putting real thought into how to best implement control schemes that allow as many people as possible to enjoy the same games I love.
I’ve not played tekken in years I just bought tekken 8 soon as I saw that ewgf come out I was shocked. Harada might as well get a spoon and feed all this bots
Bought tekken 8 last Sunday. NEVER PLAYAYED A TEKKEN GAME MY LIFE ! I spent hours watching tutorials and beginner guides, practicing my execution and neutral. Just for some idiot play easy mode with no thought or clue. Special defeats the purpose of “Learning” something new.
Was playing against a devil jin in orange ranks who used only special style. you don't know how f'ing distracting it actually is to see this menu which covers part of the character model aswell, depending on the move... .
I am a "only" 2d fighting games player, and i want to go and try tekken, but man this is game is so much diferent, it's not a anime fighting or a king of Fighters or a Street Fighter, the characters have so many moves and the game is so much diferent, this mode made me buy and try the game and the character and this so fun, you can have acess to make great combos and dont be so much noob hehehe, the main factor for me is the fun, tekken 8 now for me became the most fun fighting game because this special style mode.
OG casual here... I used the SS, and for newcomers, it's actually great! It helped my little brother to get into the game... But eventually you will turn it off because when you pull out a move out of muscle memory, the feeling of accomplishment is simply satisfying
i saw a king only spamming the same move constantly and it was almost unblockable atleast i couldnt block 1 it was like i ran against his arm that was his grab or counter or something really weird
I thought you were gonna say that you can block punish -13/14 with electrics but this really isn’t that good. Even though you can do a consistent electric it will be very predictable, only being able to do it from standing so no back dash, sidestep or dash electrics that would be quicker than doing it manually. Same with drag’s running 2, I also believe that the recovery of the move is different compared to doing it manually. If I whiff an electric I can’t do a follow up electric to clip people running in.
I've been playing Tekken since Tekken 4, but I think that adding autocombos is taking away the magic of the game (all fighting games in general) I don't know, you don't enjoy it the same, even if you go online and they break your face, this is the funny thing and where you really improve, because yesterday I saw a replay of a genbu and a fujin.... my goodness
I am new at tekken and so far having fun but it sucks when this game have this kind of issues. i started practicing by fighting ghosts in the arcade mode. tried to learn moves without the aid of a special move feature. when I tried rank it is just so weird it was allowed. if a move requires a specific execution and you can do it just by pressing a button then technically you are not considered a beginner at all. and if it is allowed, why bother having an option of doing it the hardway? I played rank with an expectation I will be matched to those who has the same issue as me, a beginner. dropping combos because of misinputs, wrong sidestep decisions, low reaction to grab etc. to me its part of the learning process and fun. but yeah... getting good is the only option but from time to time i don't want to play against AI all the time.
Modern is way better at making the game accessible without learning inputs then it is at carrying a noob to win the match. so I think its good and fine but maybe a bit too good. atleast u can still make classic inputs but I think tekken8 did a better job these controls are far more limited but they are not actually that bad especially at a low level. I really like what tekken did he to make the game accessible, and the "downsides" were things said for modern in SF6 and look how that turned out. I think these controls are a tool you can "abuse" if you are a smart player and you should since they are in the game.
I hate these "special style" type mechanics because they all look and feel dogshit. Claim to be there for beginners but if that was my first experience of fighting games I'd think they were boring and awkward af. All they end up being is something for established players to either ignore or abuse.
This is good I don’t use it but I know how to use it I just do the combos that I turned it off into my own combos after it it’s really good why people are hating on it I really don’t care about rank I just played regular matches and go against good people
Special style makes the game great. The combat is so clanky without it back even on ps2 and it was just atrocious to behold. With this it feels more Dead or alive which is great.
I don’t use special style on my character but idc what anyone says I’m a use dat special style wit certain characters because I’m not learning every damn person as a variety streamer 🤣🤣🤣🤣💯so get these hands on easy mode
When you get to the higher ranks it’s definitely more about defense versus offense anyways lol if ur gonna cry about people using special mode, get better at defense
You also get access to moves while you are crouching, that you cannot execute with normal style. I'm sure someone will come out a broken strat and they will ban this
Yeah no for real when I purchased tekken after me and my bro played tekken ball we started fighting each other and that punk had that on and like was f×cking destroying me like bro wtf I was playing with out that because why when you actually know moves but because of that crap I literally didn't win a single match we went to 8 like f×ck me it's bad enough my dad and him think they are sh×t because they play with modern and auto combo's in sf6 😮💨
I don't mind Special Style existing. I think it's a great thing for casual players who just want to mash buttons and have a good time. I do wish people had to commit to it being either on or off for the full length of the match, though. Personally just not a fan of people being able to switch back and forth. I like Modern mode being available for people in SF6 too. But it would be extremely annoying if players could switch it on and off whenever they want an instant, 1-button special.
Going through low ranks and watching people turn this off and on while fighting you... Doesn't seem to get them anywhere with me anyway. I like it when they turn it on. It means the moves are easily predicted.
I could see this adding another layer of mix up in a way if you see somebody playing a Nishima and they pull the menu up, you might be able to condition them to expect an electricheck but then drop it and bait a punish or throw something Wild like an air combo instead.. I wonder if this will see any sort of play in tournament or the proceor if they might even just ban it outright in competitive
Easy mode? Having single tap combos is like the C-stick in Smash. Sure, using the control stick and button macro does the same and has the advantage of charging, but C-stick comes in handy as a quick input to make sure it's not missed
Yes, it is easy mode and you can say what you want, being able to do 3 electrics in a row by simply hitting the triangle once, it seems criminal to me and you have the proof in TD Kazuya and Angel Jin, those fights if you play on hard and without assistance they break you in 3 but if you play on hard and use the assistance you laugh in the faces of the enemies, therefore it is the easy mode
I'll have to check out what my characters have available. Finding out you can plink this makes it 10x more useful, and seeing the menu at all likely will make the opponent underestimate you. Probably will vary a lot in usefulness by character.
Special style for kaz ewgf (less so for reina as she has df2 and DVJ + Jin as they have d3+4) is pretty bad for him, his only launcher from standing is ewgf, this means anything -17 he cant launch, and 1 of the most famous -17 moves is the mishima flashpunch (112). Granted that string should not be finished if the 2 hits dont hit, but sometimes people do finish it, so for Kaz i dont rate it.
There's a reason toggling modern SF6 doesn't exist. One button supers and specials on demand (even with damage reduction) would be broken. I much prefer Street Fighter locking you into a control set than this toggling nonsense for perfect inputs. Modern also gives greater access to the number of moves and combos (as well as a dedicated combo section for the control scheme) compared to this so you can actually learn the game.
Whoever struggles with Tekken 8, and wants something that is even more ridiculous than this "easy mode" is just Pick King dude, He does his Grappling Combos almost automaticly now, overall had various grab combos aswell even on a wall... what's more to ask dude's just broken now.
I just started playing and use it for the electric, don't see the need for all the other stuff tbh. Getting consistent with the electric frame timing as someone new to controllers and fighting games will probably take me months. Doing 15 mins of practice a day but happy I have something to use until I get good!
