This is why this is the greatest video game channel on RU-vid. 300 other goofballs on here are scrambling to get their Psychonauts 2 reviews up, Dunkey says "here's TEKKEN from 1994 this is what you get today".
Ngl, I REALLY hope that "to be continued" at the end means we are about to see how Donko reviews every Tekken from now on EDIT: OMG! Dunkey actually continued with more Tekken games! Freaking amazing
4:16 the craziest part is that they referenced Kazuya's hobby in his Tekken 8 arcade ending. He gets interviewed after conquering the world, and he shows off his sneakers collection room. It's hillarious
"Kazuya likes to collect sneakers." Knowing Kazuya that can only mean he steals the shoes off of his opponents the same way General Grievous steals lightsabers.
Please note: when heihachi was kicking Lee's face off in that 100% juggle, he had shoes on.. but when kazuya yeeted him off the cliff at the end? Barefoot. Shoes = collected.
For real though, I grew up playing Tekken original, was one of the first 3d fighting games with personality. That ending with Kazuya made me cry laughing the first time I saw it. At the beginning, they first play Hihatchi throwing Kazuya off as a serious, sinister moment. That second time at the end, with that goofy smile, perfection. The whole video game was charming as hell.
No. It was the ONLY fighting game anyone actually had. Teh PSX had way more 3d fighting games with wauy more personality but no bugger played em cos everyone just latche donto Tekkan. Kensai Sacred Fist for example was a way better Tekkan than Tekkan but nobody playe dit cos they didn't branch out, they just bought Tekkan two and then 3. PSX has TONS of amazing fighting games that no bugger even knows about.
@@kudosbudo Lotta cool experimental games from that era. I just learned about Bushido Blade not that long ago. I gotta check out the ones you mentioned. Thanks for posting about them.
In every game after Tekken 1, he is either barefoot or wearing dress shoes. Or like some martial arts foot wrap thing. But yeah they either forgot about his affinity for sneakers or just never bothered incorporating it into his design
@@izzya8132 what if he just doesnt bring them to battle bc he treasures them too much, spinkicks are terrible for the tread they should give him an intro animation where he kicks off a pair and stows them delicately in their box
You have to give Namco some credit, it was a pretty nifty idea to make a video game based on the screens you get when making a strike at the bowling alley.
Man, it's hard to believe I was in elementary school when AVGN first uploaded videos to RU-vid. I think his channel name was JamesNintendoNerd(?) and he was still known as the Angry Nintendo Nerd. I love how many RU-vidrs and fans in the comments alike can enjoy making references to the Nerd. One of my favorites was when the GamingHistorian did a video on the Roll N' Rocker, and on that same day he uploaded it tons of comments were just AVGN quotes and references, hahaha.
“When you get knocked down in Tekken 1, you stay down for about 4 years.” I remember playing Tekken 1 after loving the shit out of Tekken 3 and this was my exact experience. Never played it again lmao
Yeah when we got a PlayStation 1, we got Tekken 3 first and then our mom was at the store and said she saw the first one. Out of curiosity, my sister and I decided to buy it. After playing it for 25 minutes and seeing the wonky graphics and physics we returned it that same night.
I don't know I started with three so it's hard to say but when I played one and two shortly after, it is way longer time on those. It's a long while I've played them tho.
Kessen 3 has a secret unlockable character. It is Yoshi from the Disney anime, the Land before Time. To unlock Yoshi, win a high score in survival horror mode and type your name as @$$.
4:16 Kazuya's Tekken 8 ending references this by showing his Sneakers' collection, which means that this instruction manual is *canon* This feels so sweet. I imagined Yoshimitsu playing videogames in his free time, Nina watching old Tom & Jerry episodes (perhaps comparing them to Anna and herself) and Law going fishing. I just love those images now
Ikr, i also think that they should turn akuma back into a demon instead of a bear and re-add the a on his name, these dumb changes is why streets of virtua fights is going downhill
Funny thing is this graphics were really awesome when it came out. Tekken made people buy first Playstation, because you wouldn't get something looking that good on other platforms. I remember when I saw that camera moves around fighters my jaw dropped - untill then I only saw 2d fighting games. Tekken and VF were a leap jump in technology.
@@17Codiferus if you're alive in the good ole days of arcade gaming, it's even crazier because you could do pvp. And most of the time, it gets very heated
@@AlexSchwartzATV the PS1 was a 32-bit system while the N64 was a 64-bit system, so of course the graphics were better. But the PS1 was released 2 years prior so it was obviously dated in comparison.
My first Tekken game was 4, but I wish I could have played the first ones when they originally came out, so I could really appreciate how far the series has come.
I remember playing this a lot as a child when i was around 6 or 7. My mom thought it was too violent and threw it in the trash. For years i didnt remember the name of the game and then i finally stumbled over the title again some years back and got really excited. Thank you for making this video!
One of the things I liked about this game as a kid was how non violent it was. Mortal Kombat had blood, gore and fatalities, while Tekken had flashes of bright colors.
Reminder: Kazuya collecting sneakers is canon and even after he sold his soul to the devil, died, resurrected, took over multiple companies and killed his father, it is confirmed by the developers HE IS STILL COLLECTING SNEAKERS.
I wanna take this time as a reminder that in Tekken 1 King's df1 is +9 on hit and +93 on BLOCK which leads into a launcher. Yeah you lose a turn if you get hit and lose harder if you block! So the strat was to throw out df1 until they block so you could do a combo.
I still remember the perfect combo of doom with King. It starts with the supplex, immediately followed by a low sweep kick, a tombstone, another one and... Boom! You got a Perfect in every single round, game over! I was so disappointed when I tried it in Tekken 2 and found it didn't work like that anymore, the bastards! :)
Tekken 5 was my first tekken. It’s starts with a intro cinematic claiming that Heihatchi Michima is dead in the end of the cinematic. But surpris surpris! He’s alive
@@k4rec4 gotta unlock him first. iirc you unlock him second to last just before Devil Jin or something. I might be wrong though, I played through the game a long time ago.
I learned on Tekken 2 but this game will always hold a special place in my heart. The one in my local arcade had the volume jacked way up so the KO sound fx always had everyone looking around like "Wtf was that?" Lol good times.
These kinds of videos where you show not only your extensive knowledge of games but also your love of them is why everyone loves your videos. Keep it up, dunkey!
