Who designs a speaker with holes all the way thru the cabinet for feet? That in itself screams incompetence in design. The holes won't likely make any appreciable difference in amplitude response above bass frequencies, but the impedance measurement may be slightly different.

@@superdougie10 Erin doesn't rely on manufacturers to send him anything. His reviews are products he either purchases, receives from his viewers, or they're sent in by other members of the community who have purchased a particular product themselves and want to see the measurement data. Some largely unknown, small-time speaker manufacturer out of Utah that most people have never even heard of certainly isn't going to meaningfully affect his channel.

This shocked me as well. Tekton has done way more damage to itself from their replies than any speaker design issues being masked with their own proprietary in-house measuring processes. They should have told Steve Guttenburg his great review was improperly made as well with their speakers being without the feet, but no! I want honest reviews from reviewers and if only seeing continuous positive reviews, it does feel like manufacturer advertisement collusion which I suspect is mainly happening. As consumers, we need to be aware, especially now with so much corporate marketing half-truths that have become the norm in audio especially. Excellent discussion gentlemen.

5:54 I built some speakers out of tall plastic flower pots (strengthened inside) and sealed somewhat with wood plates on the top and bottom. The pots were turned up-side-down for the right shape for speakers. The woofer is firing onto the floor under the speaker on the wood bottom plate. There is also a top plate (smaller) with the bass vent. Also another open driver on the top.The binding post and the top and bottom wood plates, was not quite properly sealed around the joints from wood to plastic. After running the speakers like that for a while, I went around the joints with glue very precisely and meticulously so it was all sealed right around! The difference in bass was amazing! Way more punch and sounded amazing. A bit of blue tack in the small holes in the Tecton speaker is an easy task. There would be a difference, I'm sure. 🎉

Two companies in recent months showing themselves as untrustworthy, threatening and harrasing reviewers for their honest views and opinions. Lets get it straight, we have a guy making DIY speakers with painted cabinets and coloured sound whining when his DIY speaker doesnt measure as he claims. Shutting down any negative reviews. That shows a company that is worth a bag of potatoes. Next we have honest reviews of a product many in the audio community felt they themselves had similar findings of, DCS. Threatening legal action due to someone saying it's not all that great sounding as it can make something that should not sound smooth sound smooth, if your headphone DAC is making the band Skrillex sound pleasant at ear splitting volumes it's clearly doing something that many listeners wont agree with. In my opinion any audio company not able to take a negative review on the chin or accept someone finds distortion or a technical issue, needs to stop ripping off customers with exasberated prices and fake nonsense glorified nonsense by filthy paid for positive reviews. It simply shows the true face of a company that needs to only have positive reviews and their flaws burried under legality.

Rusty has a very valid point about the issue that, should an (influential! in particular) reviewer find something grossly wrong with a device, should pause, double-check his work, CONTACT the manufacturer with his findings, BEFORE just publishing something that may be flawed. Re-reviewing afterwards, apologising etc. would not be sufficient. I also defend the right to be able to have access to independent reviews on any product I may be interested in. Big boy lawyer muscle, should not be flexed to silence reviewers. Reviewers such as Erin, ASR to just name two, should contact manufacturers prior to publishing reviews, giving them a chance to comment, but ultimately be free to publish their findings.
@Youthman

@@Youthman Ofcourse, Tekton is out of line here, no denying that. However, as I said before, Erin and ASR (again just to name two) have become very influential. Should they submit their review to the manufacturers a few weeks in advance, giving them a chance to comment, then Erin or Amir, can ascertain if there has been anything that needs reviewing. Then publish the review, along with the manufacturer comment. I believe, a while ago Amir (from ASR) suggested or adopted such policy, or something similar. At any rate, Tekton has got a lot of bad publicity over this non-issue, and not because of the review itself!
@Youthman
@Youthman 4 месяца назад
As a content creator, that simply isn't feasible, nor is it necessary. If there is a major issue, most of us are happy to reach out to the manufacturer to see if it is a defective product. This was not the case. If we had to submit a review for "approval", at that point, it's no longer an unbiased review.

I trust Erin's data words over Tekton's regular words 😂 Anyone who trusts their own word over Erin's data is close-minded, regardless of who is right or wrong. Its a difficult thing in this hobby, the way people dig their heels in. I think a lot of us have this idea of shared experience and others have this idea of achieving some sort of reference point. It causes a big divide that we all struggle to identify. Sharing of opinion and experience to achieve individual and joint successes is the Youthman Youthmission if you ask me. How ever I can help one achieve their goal. But I still make suggestions to test and compare. It's all about the people. Some companies sadly miss that mark. Hopefully our collective voice can have a positive influence on the wellbeing of our fellow hobbyists/enthusiast. I really admire the conduct of Paul at PS Audio. He has his philosophies about audio, but his principles and morals of humanity are why i come back, even if i dont agree or even need the info.

Tekton has wiped itself off the short list for many audiophiles purely by their own actions. Tekton is not the worst HiFi manufacturer out there. There is at least one HiFi manufacturer recommended by Stereophile that recommends consumer behaviour that represents serious fire risks. I'm a fan of objective measurements. The idea that publications send reviews for manufacturer approval horrifies me - that's why I don't trust most HiFi publications. Some reviews read like part has been written by the manufacturer.

Erin called Tekton before measuring the speakers to ask if he needed to know anything before setting them up. No one told him he needed to install the feet. What a joke. The way that Eric/Tekton dealt with this review was a monumental fumble. A less than ideal result from Klippel measurements by Amir or Erin don't have a negative effect on a speakers' sales. See Amir's review of the Magnepan LRS, Klipsch RP600M, etc classifying them as broken. Those speakers are hot sellers. Most consumers are not looking at spinorama data to make a purchasing decision. Eric threw a tantrum for nothing. And after seeing how he conducts himself, I cannot ever see myself in the market for a Tekton speaker. And I'm sure many others now feel the same way. Streisand effect all the way.

IMO Tekton has done more damage to their brand in the last few days than any bad review could have ever done. This is being talked about on every audio forum and yet Tekton hasn't taken a clue. They really need to come out and say, "Yeah, we f'd up and are going to make it right". Instead the guy who is making the big decision is being stubborn in the path he chose while the brand, creditability, and what customer base they have left goes up in flames. Crazy! Erin’s review of the speakers was impeccable as per usual. He pointed out a few issues, didn’t make a huge deal of it, and the only personal statement he made was that the elevated midrange was not *his* cup of tea, but made effort to point out that he was stating his own opinion and folks should make their own opinions. I’m less of a fan of ASR, for reasons I won’t get into here. Amir incorrectly assumed the intended vertical axis, which was in my mind a bigger error than anything Erin did. I believe that’s an easy correction though. That is an issue that a) speaker companies NEED to make more clear and b) reviewers NEED to pay more attention to. Designers ALWAYS make speakers to be listened to on or off axis, but that info rarely gets to the end user. I have to say, Amir’s fans on the ASR forum were a whole lot more respectful to Eric Alexander than they’ve been in the past to other folks (Gene DellaSalla and Starke Sound come to mind), in spite of his unhinged behavior. While we’re talking Tekton, Stereophile just reviewed a pair of their tricked-out Moab speakers. Stereophile isn’t as easy to push around, but the reviewer did mention that Eric was irritated that two Stereophile reviewers preferred to plug the bass ports on Tekton speakers they reviewed. The dude seems to have issues with controlling behaviors.
@conchobar

Amir and Erin didnt get official review samples, but customer units. So I'm sure Tekton would never freely give those two review samples. But at 85dB the port speed would already be so high that it acts as a closed system. You could still hear it as a whoosing sound when in the nearfield. A thought just occurred to me. Klippel must be well pleased with the exposure they get by Erin (and Amir) using the NFS. And what a nightmare it would be for them if either of the two was using it to make botched measurements. I trust Klippel would be very helpful with these two if there was the slightest sign they didn't get reliable and trustworthy results. I've also seen John Atkinnson of Stereophile referred to in this context. His measurement setup for speakers is far less andvanced (if any reviewer could afford an NFS, it must be Stereophile?). I would trust both Erin and Amir over Stereophile too, when it comes to data, even more so on the subjective side. I subscribed to Stereophile for more than two decades. I let it go some years back, so may not be up to date there, but the disconnect between measurements and subjective listening was absolutely staggering on some occasions...

Spot on. In his video response, Eric at Tekton makes a point of stating that he's not afraid to use lawyers and has a close friend who is a lawyer. What Eric, and his lawyers, are missing is that there are times when you absolutely should NOT engage a lawyer - and this is one of them. Plenty of lawyers don't appreciate how negative the publicity will be if you attempt to bully or silence someone with a threat of "litigation" - and this is a textbook example of a brand destroying its reputation because it's "not afraid" to lawyer up. It's a huge overreaction and, quite frankly, pathetic conduct from Eric at Tekton.

The negative thing that I recall from Erin's review, and I may not be remembering things correctly, is that the speaker had very limited bass output. I don't recall Erin disparaging the speaker for that. If that is the case and Eric thinks the speaker plays deeper with the feet installed, he could simply have mention that to Erin and asked him to retest it. But, if we are to add in Eric response to Amir, then we can infer that bullying reviewers who see issues with his speakers is his default position. This may have some tactical advantages that we are not seeing right now. Although everyone involved here and now has a strong revulsion to tacton, those who do Google searches in the future for their speakers will see nothing negative. In the short term, he gets poor word of mouth from folks who aren't In the process of buying Tekton speakers. In the long term, this brouhaha will fade away leaving Steve's review standing tall on the Tekton website. Perhaps someone could contact Steve tell him about all this and he might want to withdraw his review.
@jamesmorse6486
@jamesmorse6486 4 месяца назад
Actually, the review was mostly positive. I believe the negative bit was about a resonance that Erin pointed out in one of his graphs. Tekton was also upset of the audacity for someone to do an "unsolicited" review of one of their products. Apparently, Tekton took offense to this. The owner even accused Erin's review of causing lost sales and canceled orders. I found it ironic that these cries over lost sales happened after Tekton's obtuse RU-vid video response to their own threat of litigation. That video has also been removed from RU-vid. I never considered their products before. And I doubt Erin's review would have influenced me one way or another. Again, it was a positive review. Tekton's own behavior has soured my view of their brand. Believe it or not, people often buy from people they like. And they don't buy from people they don't like. I don't like this guy from Tekton.

I have another story for you. My dad lives in a country where it would be somewhere between difficult and impossible to get Tekton speakers. He wanted the Lores, so he figured out which components are in the speakers, and built his own clones. They sound just like the real thing, if not slightly better. He posted a few pictures in a Facebook audio discussion group. It seems that Eric A. was in the group. My dad is now banned from Facebook entirely. He wasn't trying to make money off of the speakers he built. He built one pair for his personal enjoyment and told some people about it.

That’s crazy bro. But somehow not surprising.

From all that has transpired, it seems that Eric has done more to harm Tekton's reputation than anything any reviewer could say. It seems that some people just can't help themselves.

It certainly appears that way.

🤣🤣🤣 I noticed both videos Tekton posted yesterday about “We aren’t suing anyone” have been removed. 🤔
