Wow! On my headphones, I would have believed this was a live recording! I'm working on talking myself into a set of Moabs. More accurately, talking myself out of the $5k.. But these make me stop and wonder if those are worth it? Thanks for the demo and THANK YOU for not just playing more classical music.
Big woofer... Massive power handling.. Refined sound.. What else do you require from a speaker!! Tekton's look like the audiophile version of Cerwin Vega...
my assumptions based on the sound through my litterally 30 USD headphones, is that the bass really kicks you in the stomach ( a good thing). And I got to say, Tektons design really fit white paint very well.
Wowww I'm getting those..also bro..can you make a recording with a reggae song... reggae beep..yo..pop that sounds really great bro..did you get it with the pkg upgrade or as is..what kind of cables brand, and are you using a power line conditioner ? Tell so I can learn, please and thanks BRX nyc.
Um... in a word, "Yes!" I have a pair of the Moabs, which has dual tweeter arrays and two 12" woofers per speaker. I run it off eleven (11) watts and even use those 11 watts for movies, and I enjoy it thoroughly. These speakers - just about everyone of them in the brand - are amazing when it comes to textures and soundstaging. IF you mainly want to rock out at 90+db continuous, you would want more watts, more amplification. This particular speaker, the SET 15, is made to work with VERY LOW wattage amps, from one to seven watts. I wouldn't actually pick this particular speaker for movies, unless my movies were mainly dialogue and music based. If you want massive explosions, you would want to do more research on what people are finding with this speaker. It wouldn't compare favorably to a Klipsch or horn-type speaker, with a large solid state amp. This - the SET 15 - is a highly refined audiophile speaker, one that will present an orchestra, a jazz band, etc. with massive scale and beautiful dynamics. Still, it wouldn't be my choice for fast and furious movie sound effects.
Also, it's very hard to beat this speaker for vocals. I'm picky and I sit and listen to every nuance of the vocals, and these speakers are gorgeous for nuanced listening.
I sure would like to know the brand of the DHT SET power amp shown in the video. I believe it starts with the letter V. Hand maade in Washington or Oregon state, USA.
I don't know if it's the microphone used for recording or the speakers. But it sounds kind of harsh. Probably good for aging ears, but for me it's just too much.
Overall they sound very good to me, but there's some etch in the midrange that bugs me a little. It could be the Onkyo amp he's using. I'm listening with a tube headphone amp and Sennhesier hd58x. I also own a pair of Tekton Lores.
Honestly, this is one of the worst recorded albums by Dire Straits. Typical 1980s digitally over-processed flat sound. Drum kit sounds unrealistic through any speaker or headphone. I wouldn't use it for demo purposes.
Weird how when I look at the speakers they don't appear sitting flat. Same way my Klipsch look in the living room. Swear they look like they're leaning over.
The stated requirement for this speaker is from one to seven watts. It's a flea watt speaker and pushes HUGE volume - 98db - with as little as one watt, at the one meter position.
I'm sure they sound great. This sounds to me, through my Beyerdynamic monitors, like this is a cell phone recording. It sounds razor sharp, shrill and lousy. What in the world is everyone talking about regarding soundstage, imaging and decay?!
Yes, it's working properly! Quite the contrary to Eric Alexander's words in his Perfect Set introductory clip ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fHm6dNSQs4k.html I listened again and again to his prediction why the 15-ers shouldn't work with powerful amplifiers (and why the 12-ers should work merely). But I don't get his point, as there is no technical explanation made why that (overwhelming bass response) should apply to any high-power amplifier, regardless of construction (emitter-follower or collector-follower coupling, input impedance measurements, high or low negative feedback amplifier). I agree it sounds excellent and hugely entertaining, whereupon still "correct".
No room treatment not pulling speakers forward. .. it's like buying a tuned sports car and only driving it on loose desert sand. But hey atleat you got the car 🚗
There's a video here on RU-vid (search for Tekton Perfect SET) where Eric explains that the 15" woofer version if designed for fleawatt amps (10 watts and under) and DOES NOT recommend using them with anything with more power, or the bass will be overwhelming. For anything more than 10 watts, he recommends the 12" woofer version instead (probably the 2x10" version also, but that's new).
Just curious, of all the tunes KNOPFLER is responsible for, some true masterpieces of the last 40 years, why play his most commercial, poppy high school talent show song?
