i really love how this channel takes the gatekeeping out of learning how to tech your own guitars. it's no rocket science, it's actually pretty simple. but one of the big problems with the industry is players being convinced that some mythical knowledge separates them from being able to do the basic repairs and parts changes that come with maintaining a stellar instrument (which eeminds me a lot of the cultural attitude around mechanics; they capitalize off of your ignorance and can charge us whatever because we agree that someone always knows better). SEIZE THE MEANS OF PRODUCTION, people. we can tech our own instruments!

These tips on how to solder and how to put together wiring assembly are true evergreens that will be a great source of knowhow for years to come for aspiring D.I.Y. guitar geezers. Both your soldering videos and your pickups are the best! Thanks for sharing these. Cheers!

Thank you for such a clear and instructive video. The wiring diagrams I have been looking at show the Tone Cap connected to the outside connecter of the Volume Pot, which is then grounded to the body of the Volume pot, and then the other side of the capacitor connected to the middle connector of the Tone pot. If I can use the wiring you used here it would make it easier because I'm using a modified control plate that shifts to Volume knob closer to the Tone knob, and I don't have as much space between the caps.

hello, are your pots in contact with the Tele plate? if yes, is it necessary to connect the ground of the 2 pots together with a wire? I think they are already connected, because each ground pots touches the plate. or is the an isolation ring between the pots and the plates? great video :)

I was surprised that you didn't need to pre-tin the pot lugs like at @2:13. If the wire is tinned before installing in the lug, is that enough? This is a great idea for a video - thank you!

Great video! Just curious. Have you considered just hooking on (and then soldering) ground wires onto the wire you used to ground the lug to the case on the volume pot? Seems like that would save a lot of time and if/when you mod or replace parts, it's easier and cleaner to remove.

I hate to have to tell you this, but you’re soldering incorrectly. Everyone does this, and I have to remind myself not to do it, but you don’t add solder to your iron and use the iron to plop solder onto a joint. This is incorrect. Rather you 1) clean your iron tip with a damp sponge. 2) tin your tip with a tiny bit of solder. 3) apply your tip to whatever you’re soldering until the metal heats up 4) apply solder not to your iron, but to your connection. You should also make sure each connection is mechanically connected before it’s soldered. Each wire end should connect to a lug or solder point in an “L” hook.
