I’m a 22D guy. Not a one in your collection. The only binding we have in common is the 01. Are you not a fan? Just curious, really. I have no stake in it either way. But I do love my Lynxes (mounted on Voile V6BC) And I love love love both my sets of outlaws (one Bent Chetler 100, one Voile V8). And I guess for completeness I might as well share that the 01s are on Fischer S-bound 112 which I’m currently running with T2s, but I’m planning on getting some 75mm leather boots soon. The 22designs setups are driven by TX Pros (of course). Btw I live in Utah, hence all the wide skis.
I don’t have anything against 22d. Such a great company. I still have a pair of hammerhead somewhere. But I have a strong preference for the Meidjo over the Lynx, more adjustable ( main reason), better stepin, release (although not a major factor) and the alpine heelset (kinda must have for guiding in my mind) and the BMF is just a perfect patrol binding. I could live with the Outlaw but I hate the brakes. Just too hard to stepin. Also the bishop is more adjustable. 22d is excellent for service, durability, availability and genuine gang that loves tele. You can go wrong.
Yes, so fun. But I have to say that I could not work ski patrol at my resort usign that setup. I need at least a mid 90's plastic boot to ski all mountain all conditions
I'm just learning to Telemark, like 3 sessions in. What ski would you recommend? I have a high level of alpine skiing so I'm looking for something that is future proof for some hors piste. Cheers!
Learn with a pair of (long) cross country skis w/steel edges and 75 bindings. That’s how you will find true love to telemark skiing (not to forget develop skills and balance)
Noticed you have an alpine heel on the meijdo’s. Do you recommend having an alpine heel for backcountry? I can’t tell if it’s worth the extra weight / money
The weight is negligeable. The price is up to you. As for it's use, I went by without for 20 years. But now I feel I wouldn't go without. I like the flexibility to lock the heel and to alpine if I want. It's really for backcountry purposes in my case as I don't use the meidjo in the resort. Guiding or just touring for long days with a heavy pack, I will lock the heel if the conditions are variable.
I have a pair of telemark skis, Fishers. I’m 5’2 and I’m looking for a 140 or 150 length. I have the older type of bindings and boots. Can you give me a referral to where I could get a shorter size. I live in Sacramento California. Thanks
Nice review, thanks Rene! How would you compare the bishop BMF binding vs 22 designs outlaw x? I’m switching to NTN, just bought the Impulse 104 and going to mount with one of those bindings? Will be skiing mostly resort at Mt hood meadows!
Outlaw x is a good binding and I recommend it. Most of my friends ski it. Bishop is awesome and wins over the outlaw on every ( every) categories. It’s just better. (And more expensive). Get the switch plate for second pair of skis to lower the cost.

I got the M3.0 (with alpine heel) last winter and have had nothing but problems - for the high price, the build quality is shocking, and I'd never trust them for multi-day backcountry touring. I'm only 60kg, and not harsh on my gear, so very disappointed with these - my Market AT bindings are so much more reliable...
No not sponsored, they send me the binding for free. And I can say what ever I want. I have the same arrangment with Bishop, 22design, Rottofella. So, I have a deal with all companies (but Voile), no strings attached. If I had only one binding to choose, it would be the Meidjo. It's reliable, releasable, adjustable. The only thing I doin't like is they're brake. They are too light/weak and I end up breaking them. I've not use their brakes for a few years now so maybe it's better. For the last 3 years I use the Bishop BMF for the reasort, I like the step in (pin bindings are hard to get on and off on a step incline and that's a must while patrolling), the brakes and the feeling. Hope this answers your question.
And for reliability, I've guided with the Meidjo binding a few hundred days now. I've had some problems with v1.0, v2.1. I haven't had any problem (zero) with version 3.0 in 2.5 years now. Problems were brakes breaking, snow gattering in the second heel and me forcing the boot in. the result was the second heel or the red tab top break. I still have snow clogging the second heel but I'm more careful, and I will take the time to remove the snow each and every time.
