Cant really see the use of that one... well fast to travel with to the place to dig, but still an old Åkerman H7M would be alot faster and better to dig with...

But here in the Netherlands, there are NONE of them: All of our roadside work is done with wheeled excavators (Atlas 150W is extremely popular) which top speed is 35kmh or so. And when driving distances longer than 10km, the lubrication oil in the axles gets hot, causing seals to leak. As for backhoe loaders, in The Netherlands maybe three new backhoe loaders are sold each year, which all have a very specific job. All common cable laying is done with mini excavators of 1.5-2.5 ton, and works like preparing the sandbed for a concrete pad is done with an Ahlmann swivel loader: In fact, Ahlmann (now Mecalac) sells 50% of its 11 ton AZ150 models in The Netherlands and the other half in the rest of Europe, even though it is a German built machine ! In the Netherlands the thought is: a JCB is trying to do two things but fails at both: an excavator digs faster, and a wheel loader loads faster. The same goes for a truck mounted excavator, a typical Dutch excavator driver would hate to have a truck cab in the way of his work: He is just not used to the idea, and neither are his customers. The variety in preference for certain types of construction machinery for certain types of work, can not just be explained by geographical differences such as soil type, and whether there are mountains or not. A lot of it has to do with what people are used to, because customers of earthmoving companies will be asking for what they know. Only if there are clear advantages, a new piece of construction equipment will enter new markets. Other examples of local preferences are: there are only a few bulldozers in Holland, most levelling (creating the base for new highways) are levelled with wheel loaders. Also, in the USA you see a lot of scrapers and graders. Here in Europe (all of Europe, as far as i know) you hardly see this machine type. So, I am interested in this type of machine because they are so rare here. Its nice to learn something about habits in other parts of the world :)
+sharpshooterCZ200S Or what i tried to ask is: I see the advantage is mobility. No other self propelled excavator can match this. But it also has disadvantages: It is slower in its hydraulic movements compared to a standard excavator. And the machine is much longer than tracked or wheeled excavators, isnt that a drawback in urban areas ?
So it is clear why UDS is not wanted in western Europe. It is mainly a higher claim to teach the staff and it is probably the height of salary. To the east, it is commonplace that people have an ever higher level of education. Although in the last 10 years also fallen in the pattern of the West. It is related to the past, free education in the East.
