Is this supposed to an ElderTubbies reference? For anyone who doesn't know, it's a series of artworks that depict this exact concept, with the teletubbies as their full adult forms.
During the scene where the Narrator suggests Po wave the flag, all I could think of was, "when Po came to a set of two open doors, she entered the door on her left."
@@fangirldreamer748 not entirely what I’m talking about, in the show yoKai are basically equivalent to ghosts and can manipulate how a person feels depending on what kind of yoKai they are, but watch a yoKai watch out of context video you will QUICKLY see what I mean-
Burger King made Tubby Custard once! There was a Teletubbies kids meal where you got keychain plushies of each of the characters, including Noonoo and a bunny, and they acted as finger puppets! And with your kids meal, you got a little cup of Tubby Custard! It was just really good pink vanilla pudding, I think. I might remember it being better than it was, though lol
Yes!!! I was obsessed with Teletubbies as a kid and wanted tubby custard so bad and was so excited when Burger King had it. My mom literally would buy multiple tubby custards at a time to keep in the fridge so she didn’t have to go to Burger King everyday lmao. I legit cried when they stopped carrying it. The first time I was scarred by a discontinued product.
oh she would LOVE lazytown, with all of it's insane lore spread across the plays and shows and the two different canceled Sportacus backstories - I need her opinions on what songs she thinks are bops!!
In case anyone was wondering, Tubby Custard is made from milk, cream, sugar, vanilla, and probably a dash of red food coloring, simple as that. A perfect desert to make for young Teletubbies fans, or adults who want a taste of nostalgia, literally. I kinda wanna make some myself just thinking about it!
It's even better because the entire debate was spurred by a guy who said that the anti-christ would be born Jewish not too long before he said Tinky-Winky was gay to cover his anti-semitism with an outlandish claim.
@@clarehidalgo yeah it is pretty dumb, I'm pretty sure the only ones assuming that were conservative parents I remember reading about it a while ago and apparently an upside down purple triangle used to be a symbol for queer people before the rainbow flag. But Idk honestly I just vaguely remember that 🤷♂️
I remember when Ronald Reagan died, my family didn’t have cable so our channel options were limited. The only channel not broadcasting his services was PBS and they were playing Boobahs. So besides the creepy eye thing they did, that’s what I mostly associate them with.
Honestly, the better one is Teletubbies by a long shot! I said this before, but it legit feels like it's a bit of a representation of a caregiver or multiple caregivers taking care of a bunch of toddlers. The teletubbies themselves already have the curiosity, mischievousness, and overall behavior of toddlers, but I especially see that whenever the narrator talks, since the teletubbies are aware of his presence. He says the whole thing like it's a story in order to help guide the teletubbies to do something, which honestly sounds like an interesting way someone could help guide a toddler to do something correctly by themselves, since they're learning to be a bit more independent! And then some if not most of the antics that happen in it are because the teletubbies make a mistake on what they're trying to do or if they don't listen. And the antics can tend to get sillier if they do so PURPOSELY because it makes them giggle! (Specific example being the segment in "Pink") And many tend to say the trippiest parts have to do with the windmill, but I honestly see it more as if a caregiver were to say "Hey, kids! It's storytime!" And they all come rushing over to hear the story! Same could be said for a lot of the other windmill events!
My dad used to watch tellytubbies with us and everytime Noo Noo came on screen he laughed his ass off and it was his favorite character. I too also wish to consume tubby custard
They should’ve done a crossover between the shows (the fact that the Teletubbies are canonically Swifties 💀, also you shoud do a Sid the Science Kid lore vid)
@@sobaka8685 the official teletubbies twitter made tweets about Taylor and made pics of the teletubbies on album covers (also there were “rumors about Taylor dating Dipsy)
I’m trying to study education and media so I can make children’s shows, so I also look into kids shows “too deeply” but I think kids deserve the thought and consideration
Children's media is such an undervalued art - that perfect balance between age appropriate understanding, but not talking down to them, and then making it all entertaining. The world definitely needs more kids media that gives them something meaningful to think about, and takes its time, rather than just bombarding them with nonstop movement, color, and noise.
Teletubbies was my first ever hyperfix i think when i was REALLLLLY little. When i got older (and was still into it) i found out what slendytubbies was (aka the creepypasta version) and then got hyperfixated on THAT. Teletubbies BUILT ME bro
When I was 4 I made my parents and brother go as the Teletubbies for Halloween. My dad didn't wanna be Tinky Winky cause he thought he was gay or something but Grandma loved the idea and was like "You can give out candy from his big red purse"
Yep. Teletubbies outcalsss Boohbah in almost every way possible. Every point you made was right on the money. The Teletubbies are way more distinct, memorable, and fun to watch, and their world is so intricate and immersive. But one thing I don't think anyone's mentioned is how much the music slaps. The soundtrack, mainly the songs that play during the scenes of the Teletubbies dancing go SO hard. They go so hard that a RU-vidr named Furkan Kılıç took it upon himself to make covers of them. You should definitely give them a listen.
The cut to Athena dancing along with the Boobahs in the suit absolutely killed me. You never fail to make me smile and exhale loudly through my nose. Thank you for all your hard work!
Fun fact, one of the main fast food chains (i think it was burger king) had a Teletubby event and served tubby custard. But it was just yogurt. Young me was very unimpressed because I had BEGGED to go eat tubby custard and it was just boring yogurt.
Anne wood also worked on In the Night Garden with Andrew Davenport. The narrator had like a ASMR level calm to his voice. It was a trip for me watching on the HUB(aka discovery family/discovery kids)
Hey everyone, there's something that needs to be mentioned, the original location for Teletubbies was turned into a pond because the owner was so sick and tired of trespassers coming onto the set. RIP my childhood.
Unfortunately I can't say the same. Everything else about the show was cute, but I had nightmares about the voice trumpets well into high school. That said, still better than Boobah.
When I was a kid I always thought that the Teletubbies were being held captive , which didn’t stop me from watching all the time but did lead to me having a reoccurring nightmare where Po kidnapped me.
My take is that the viewer is represented by the baby sun. Which as you mentioned feels like it makes the baby (the viewer) the center of their world. Also why there are so many different babies in the remakes, so the viewers get a chance to see themselves as the center of the Teletubbies existence! Now my hairbrained theory revolving around this is that means that baby sun (viewer) and human children in general are like the Tubbies gods, given sun iconography is very god related. The teletubbies are in a veritable garden of eden, and are explorers of this new world (astronaut symbology) that need to learn all about it. It gives the viewer someone to relate to, and autonomy. After all, when they're born, babies probably feel like the center of their own world, but also very lonely little astronauts. Scientists sent to a new world they have to figure out the rules of.
This unlocked some DEEP memories…like the fact that, for reasons I cannot fathom, I was absolutely terrified of the Teletubbies special segment with the house and the singing puppets. The kind of deep-seated, gut-churning fear that only a toddler can comprehend. Good times.
My only real experience with Boohbah as a child was through the interactive website. It was truly a surreal experience. The Story People look exactly the way I remember them.
I also, only had experience through the interactive website and it scarred me as a kid, I was horrified of boobahs. My friend was like "it's sooo funny they fart everywhere" and I'm just sitting there in horror 😂 I miss library computer time as a kid, so many fun flash games that I'll never play again
i remember as a kid loving that interactive website, but i never cared for the actual show itself. teletubbies definitely outclasses boobah by a landslide
As an avid watcher of boobah as a child, the boobahs cannot hold a candle to the real ones, Grandpapa, Mr Man, and Auntie (who i also never saw in the show)
Also have you noticed that the boohbahs are the same colors of the backyardigans? I mean yellow purple orange blue and pink, and who else where those same colors? The backyardigans. Also speaking of which can you do a lore video on the backyardigans
"Je suis la jeune fille!" I retained that for all these years just from seeing that commercial so often. Imagine my fluency if my parents actually bought that course!
YESSS I FELT CRAZY CAUSE THERE WERE SO MANY PEOPLE IN MY LIFE WHO DIDNT KNOW WHAT MUZZY WAS I WAS OBSESSED WITH THE CHARACTER AND WANTED THE PLUSH SOOOOO BAD I didn't even want to learn languages at the time I just loved muzzy
I remember Teletubies, but I've never seen the other show. Also, I have a suggestion for lore light. 2 popular Kids cartoons from other countries that BOOMED IN POPULARITY. Peppa Pig vs Bluey, or you can do an individual video for each of them.
Tbh ALL of the Teletubbies 7 Magic Events were creepy. I remember being scared while watching the Magic House. Just all the creepy build-up until there’s a weird Scottish puppet singing at you.
I loved Teletubbies when I was growing up. I remember my parents renting and later buying the VCRs for me and my younger siblings. Also, I can't see Tubby Custard or the Tubby Custard Machine without thinking about a Legendary Tumblr post with a Vegan (TM) having a Meltdown about "what's really in your McNuggets and how they're made" and someone replied "bitch, that's the Tubby Custard Machine". And Tumblr never EVER let it go, LMAO. And finding out that Boobah came from the same Creator was shocking but the explanation of Boobah being geared towards babies makes things make 1000x more sense because Boobah used to terrify me.
I watched boobah as a tiny human and even had a sort of furby doll of the yellow one. However there was literally no one else that even knew what it was, i legit thougbt it was some kind of hazy dream i thought of
fun face about the Teletubbies rabbits, not only were they massive so to not look tiny compared to the Teletubbies themselves, but they also did what rabbits do actively on set! Edit: at the time of making this comment i didn't see Athena get into the rabbits and about both of these fun facts i gave! lmao
"Po's my favorite because of how small she is." Wait, she? Po's a SHE?! I always thought she was a baby boy! Wow! This is probably the longest I've went misgendering a character. I blame Elmo. Elmo's: Leave Elmo out of this. Kyle's the one who came to the conclusion that anyone with Elmo's color scheme and tone of voice has his gender. Okay. Fair enough. It does make sense for Po to be a girl, since two of the four characters are boys. It evens out.
I agree, it’s so cute. I remember Teletubbies as one of those shows that I stayed watching longer when I was a kid, I think to like 6. This is one of those weird PBS kids shows that don’t make sense for it to stick so long though… Unlike Dragon-tales, Clifford, or Reading with Lions or ciberchase which make sense for a kid to want more of, and were my favorites, I loved so much and continued watching much longer.
The fact my 27 yo ass skipped the lion and the bear segment because it terrified me as a child and I still get anxious whenever I see them or hear the audio lmao Fun fact: that episode was also banned in the UK for scaring children and isn't aired on the BBC whenever there are Teletubbies reruns. You are brave, Athena. Thank you for your service gdjsndksk
Make vanilla pudding and thin it out with some ripple milk, add some pink dye and pour it in a cup with a boba straw and enjoy your tubbiecustard while watching the Paw Patrol Mighty Pups movie for the 10th time since it’s incredible too. Kids media is so underrated
My mom liked Teletubbies, but she never let me watch Boohbah only because I was apparently terrified of it. I don't remember ever watching it, so she saved me a childhood trauma there I guess. PFFT
Last night I was just watching a boobah episode because I was bored and thought about how you were gonna dissect this show and I now feel like a psychic
4:44 I would watch this sequence over an over as a child and I loved it. Umm yeah turns out I’m autistic and my special interest is animals. To this day I still love scenes in movies where big multi species groups of animals walk in one direction
My brother and I were Dispy and Po for Halloween once! I'm glad to have had Telitubbies over Boobah, that over 4 minute intro of kids rhythmically chanting "Bew-bah, bew-bah" followed by farting rainbow bean pod feels like a fever dream
Teletubbies was one of those things I was into up until I was 13. And I wondered why I was so interested in a baby show of all things when I was also interested in shows closer to my age range at the time. Well you pretty much explained it. It's colorful, weird, and there's something charming about it. And as someone with ADHD, I relate to that "AGAIN AGAIN" thing! We make fun of it but how many times have I listened to a song or watched an episode/RU-vid video/movie over and over again??
14:21 hey genuinely, thank you for whipping out the tape measure to show us the length. I am autistic and can't visualize distances well so being able to see the length in relation to a person and objects really helped me visualize how FUCKING HUGE these creatures are. My god! 4 ft? These rabbits are out here the size of like, teenagers! Jfc
Realistically, teletubbies is just alien children learning about our world one piece at a time. We sort of do the same with their world through things like nunu, the teletubby diet, the pinwheel, and the sentient sun. I assume boobah is sensory purgatory for the poorsouls of storyland. Who give gifts in an attempt to be spared/forgiven and get to heaven or return to earth. Hence why it's a new person everytime?
I love the makeup you did for this. Something my 4 year old likes to watch is those survival builds that aren’t really practical for survival (like underground pools and stuff like that)
for some reason, the only thing i remembered from teletubbies is being absolutely terrified of the boy in the singing house, except i thought he was a mouse, from his silhouette. there was something menacing and ominous about it... the house coming in and out of existence... i remember the sequence almost happening in slow motion, scared of when he would make himself known. i cant explain it any more than that. just deep fear
I’m so EARLY holy shit /pos Literally the ONLY thing I remember about watching Teletubbies as a kid was the first episode bit about the kid on the bike, and this fucked up nightmare fuel segment with a floating carousel. It did not occur to me that there WERE so many rabbits 😆 Also: It’s a big bottle of sauce NEEDS to be on merch EDIT YOU COVERED THE BEAR AND THE CAROUSEL I HATED IT SO MUCH 😆😆
seeing people find out about flemish giants is always so funny to me lol. also i would hope the rabbits were fixed and if that’s the case humping is just their way of expressing dominance
4:53 This reminds me of the Caddicarous video where he covered this crappy Noah's Ark racing game Also, I hope she mentions the banned Teletubbies episode (she does)
I remember in high school me and my friend got cross faded during a sleepover and watched both these shows at 4 in the morning it was a life changing experience
Oh man, my little sister loved Tellitubbies as a kid but it always unsettled me. Especially Noo Noo. I straight up had nightmares about him. Boobahs though? I LOVED that show. I remember walking into my mom’s room where her and my sister were watching it on the TV and I paused and stared. I was mesmerized by it. I always thought they were adorable with their little Kewpie doll eyes and the funny glancing noises. Something about the whole show had a surreal atmosphere that was enchanting to me and the sound effects satisfied something in my little brain. I still find the sound effects so satisfying.
Hello Athena, I've watched both Teletubbies and Boohbah in my youth and I was born on the year AFTER Teletubbies first premiered ^_^ And yes my very favorite Teletubby was also Po and I had a toy of her as a kid, yea :)
