As I understand it, you live in the perfect situation for testing the multipath capabilities. Please hook this up to dual antennas and test it. I'm thinking of adding a second antenna to pull in channels in the opposite direction, and if this works, it'd solve my issue.

I'm finding the same price for both the Televes 560483 and the Televes 560383. Wouldn't it be better to at least have the option for two antenna inputs? Seems like it would be an added potential feature for the same price.

I got to say, Televes is a good company. They’ve been around since the 50s and they handle with manufacturing, testing and distribution of their antennas and products. Thanks for another spot on recommendation. Replaced my very good Amplify preamp with the current Televes 560483 now that the snow is off the roof. A big improvement not so much in signal strength over my old amp but a much better and consistant solid signal. Although a few of the lowest signals are breaking up this morning but I had no signal at all most of the winter with the old preamp. The Amplify is a slightly different setup being it had a VHF/UHF diplexer built in if you are running dedicated antenna while this one has a combined for multiple of the same type of antenna. So I needed to dig up a diplexer to first combine seperate VHF/UHF Harrisburg market antenna and use the other for the Philadelphia market antenna. This one really does what is advertised even with a overpowering signal from a close tower and being 70 or so miles from the towers and in a valley.

I just set up my Televes Dual Input PreAmp and compared it with my 30-year old Channel Master CM7777 preamp. Turns out there wasn't too much difference. A bit better signal on some channels, and a bit worse on a few others. I'm about 30 miles from the Seattle area transmitters. My setup is two attic-mounted antennas (one UHF and one VHF) with about 40-ft of RG6 coax from the antennas to the entertainment center. I do like the Televes feature with two outputs on its power supply so I could remove the splitter that feeds my TV and my Tivo DVR. So, for now, I'm leaving the Televes installed.

Tyler, thanks for all the great info you put up through your channel. The hard work and clear, detailed analysis are really appreciated. I'm on the coast of Florida about 60 miles from Orlando. I purchased the ClearStream 4 max based on your reviews and it's been performing very well, overall, especially since we are at the outer envelope of signal range. I do get some pixelation, and occasional complete signal loss on a couple of the normally strong and clear stations when atmospheric conditions decline or some other kind of interference kicks up. Based on your review of the Televes preamp, and its automatic gain control feature, I decided to buy one (the single input version) to see if it could help boost my signal reception when it's needed without overpowering signals that don't need it. When I put it in line, the strangest thing happened. I lost most of my strong, local market stations (WESH 2, WKMG 6, PBS 24, WFTV 9, WKCF 18, etc.) and started pulling in a mess of random stations from NE, N, and NW (Jacksonville, Gainesville, and Savannah...which is 260 miles away!) all off the back of my antenna! The only thing I can figure is that the preamp was massively increasing my gain, across the spectrum, with no automatic adjustment, thereby crushing the stations that were normally coming in from where I have the antenna pointed (S, SW) and capturing broadcasts off the back of the antenna which are normally way too weak to even detect. Do you think I received a faulty preamp from Televes or did I totally misunderstand what the automatic gain control is supposed to do? I reached out to Televes US, in Colorado, but they have not gotten back to me with any useful response. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

You received a bunch of crazy TV stations due to a tropospheric ducting event that happened over the past two days. It had nothing to do with the preamp. Try it again tomorrow.
@danwalsh9931
@danwalsh9931 3 года назад
@@AntennaMan Tyler, I should have given you a clearer explanation of the timing of this strange reception event. I installed the preamp on April 10. The loss of my local stations and the "never before" reception of all the distant stations from the opposite direction my antenna is pointed happened then. That was well before the tropospheric event you mentioned. I called Televes on Monday, the 12th, and spoke with a very nice woman there named Deeann. I've been waiting to get info and guidance from her primary technician since then. I finally thought to write to you today for advice while still waiting for input from Televes. Your mention of tropospheric ducting was certainly intriguing, though, and triggers another question. If that kind of event happened to enhance signal propagation from the north, would it, at the same time, suppress signal strength and reception from closer local stations to the south?

I've been using the Televes for a couple of weeks, and am quite pleased with it. The gain adjustment is very sensitive and the feature itself is terrific. I love being able to control each antenna separately, even though the amplified signal from a weaker station on ONE antenna, can adversely affect stronger signals going to the OTHER antenna. I've learned to keep the weaker station at lower amplification.

The reviews are great and a friend bought one. The only thing he doesn't like, living in the NW are the cheap plastic tie to the mast. He is going to try a different way to strap the booster box to the pole. A metal strap at least a hose clamp is what is needed. He said the amp inside the plastic weather proof container is very good. Since we get a lot or rain & wind in the NW, especially along the coast, some durable is really needed. Why Televes is using a plastic strap is beyond me. I am still using my CM 7888 and it works well.

Excellent informative video. I've been a Televes customer for years. I have two Televes UHF only Yagi antennas plus a long range VHF only Yagi from Stellar Labs. All three antennas are combined with a Televes 3-way combiner. This combiner uses the older method of stripping back about 3/8 inch of the coax insulator and dielectric to expose the signal wire and fold back the shielding. I am using quad coax which is a little thicker than the combiner is designed for. I had to modify the coax clamps to allow for the thicker coax. Also, one for the UHF antennas has a 60 ft. coax run before it gets to the combiner. This antenna has its own pre-amp. The combiner allows you to dial in the amount of gain to balance the feed to your TV. I have the pre-amp feed dialed down and the other two feeds dialed up. This combination works well for me. It looks like the Televes T-Force 2-way Pre-amp has F connecter ports. This should simplify coax installation. Given that I want to combine three antennas, can I use two of these new pre-amps to combine all three antennas. Or do you have a different recommendation? Perhaps getting a 5G filter at the TV end of the run would be simpler. But then again, I may not experience any interference. I'll have to see.

Roger, glad you're happy with your Televes products. The easiest way to use this preamp in your situation would be to diplex one of your UHF only antennas with the VHF only antenna, and use that feed for one of the inputs. We make mast mounted diplexers that allow to do just that, you'd just need one ahead of the T-Force dual amp

Truth and Quality Practical and Useful Information. Much information on the internet about combining antennas. www.antennasdirect.com , has the DB8e that can be easy to use one UHF antenna or two separate UHF antennas in different directions. In general the coaxes from identical antennas to the combiner must be the same length. Completely separate band antennas such as UHF Only and VHF Only antennas using a UHF/VHF combiner , these combiners and other combiners look like common splitters however are not splitters. UVSJ UHF/VHF Separator/Joiner or HLSJ Hiband/Lowband Separator/Joiner , and etc. The coaxes do not have to be the same length. www.channelmaster.com , has a combiner that comes with a warning that makes a interesting read. @@genesky61 Yeap, I'm guessing that's why in the instructions for the Televes amp it instruct you to combine the VHF and UHF antennas before connecting them to the amp using a diplexer/combiner. @mikemandell132
@mikemandell132 3 года назад
There are already antennas optimized for post-repack TV. WInegard 7694 is one and there are others. However, an antenna itself will always receive out-of-band signals. It is very difficult to design an antenna that can only receive a very narrow frequency range. Strong signals out of band will almost always be received. This is why they make band-pass filters (another poster calls these "band stop" filters but that is not what they are. A band pass filter allows only the narrow frequencies you desire to pass through it and blocks everything else (but even this has its limits). Can you pick up Low VHF with a High VHF antenna? Yes. Just not as well. Antennas are not THAT specific.
@jTempVids
@jTempVids 3 года назад
@@mikemandell132 What I meant was, I would like to see the antennas redesigned so that their peak gain is more in line with the current spectrum. UHF channels 14-36 (470-608 MHz) for example. Most all antennas on the market except a select few have their peak gain near the top of their range, up near channel 51 or even channel 70. For example I'm using a long UHF Yagi like the 91XG or the Stellar Labs 30-2370. They have a gain of say 11db on channel 12 and then the gain increases and peaks at 17db near channel 51. I would prefer a flat gain across channels 14-36 or at least the peak gain to be around channel 36.

Uh oh! After 13 months of dependable use --- the Televes died yesterday! I had the TV on for awhile in the afternoon, and with virtually no warning, the signal vanished, and didn't return. I thought it was the station, but it wasn't. I changed channels and everything else was gone as well. I checked the amp outside, and the power indicator was flickering. After a few minutes of trying to see if it was a problem with the coax connection, the indicator went out completely. Leaving the indoor power-inserter connected, I replaced the Televes with a Winegard amp I'd used before. All the channels returned...but with the Winegard I'm forced to add a splitter ahead of the amp. I'm trying to contact Televes to see if they can possibly arrange a replacement.

My Televes Dual port amp arrived yesterday and I quickly installed the two part system. First I installed the power supply and video splitter. Signal levels were actually a little better for some reason. Maybe we will chalk it up the cable oxidation. Then I installed the Dual channel combiner and RF filter. The signal was attenuated so much that I lost most of my channels. I didn’t try tuning it, but I did uninstall it right way, but left the power supply. Most of my stations are about 80 miles away, maybe they need looser filters to get through to the TV. I will try again when I have more time.

If your antenna is active a few things may be happening: Maybe it's not receiving power if you don't have the power-passing switch on the Televes preamp turned to ON, so in that case the antenna would be turned off. Also, if you are using the 550104 to power up the Televes preamp, maybe your antenna doesn't use the same voltage/current, that would have to be double checked.

@@jurysdoyler The antenna amplifier came supplied with a 120V AC / 15V DC @ 300mA and the Televes 550104 is 120V AC / 12V DC @ 220mA. You might be on to something. I am using the 550104 to drive the Antenna amplifier right now, but the two together might be to much. I think the antennas power supply, which has twice the power of the 550104 might be able to drive both devices.

I cut the cord about 2 months ago and purchased a Tablo QUAD Four DVR with a Wineguard 200 preamp, Clearstream 4 Max Antenna with all new quadshield coax and connectors. After two months of working beautifully, I started having problems. Shows I had selected for recording on the Tablo were not recording due to a weak antenna signal strength. Right away I suspected the preamp mainly because all the equipment was brand new and I had heard about the W200 being junk. I ordered the Televes preamp mainly because I was VERY impressed by Antenna Man's review. The new preamp is installed and and I am happy to report that my problem is solved. I installed the Televes the way it was shipped to me right out of the box and it works great. I did a signal strength test on the three main network channels I watch most. With the W200 when it was working properly two channels were coming in at 80% and one channel at 60%. With the new Televes both channels that were coming in at 80% stayed the same, but the 60% channel improved to 80%. I am glad I purchased and installed the Televes Pre Amp. I highly recommend it. When I compared the two units, the Televes made the W200 look like a cheap toy. In my opinion, this preamp is of professional quality. Two things that stand out in my mind about the unit. I like the way the front cover slides off. It makes connecting the coax easier and when reinstalled protects it from the weather nicely. I also was impressed with the power unit. It is very well made and it has a very visible green light that stays on all the time to let you know it is connected properly. I believe it is 12VDC. Not sure what the W200 was. Again, in closing, I am very happy with my decision to purchase this preamp.

Two pre-amps on an antenna.

Did you look at the specified temperature operating range, 23 to 113 degrees fahrenheit? It often gets below 23 degrees where I live.

$70.00 is a decent price for a preamp of this quality. Might consider this for my next setup.

I didn't give but $50.00 for my antenna and it works great but some days it needs a little boost , huh more for the pre amp than I gave for the antenna .

This model just sold out. If you don't need two inputs on this preamp the single input option is available at the link below: bit.ly/33r0DtR You can also reach out to Javier of Televes directly to order the dual input preamp:televes.usa@televes.com

@@AntennaMan Nice it has the built in combiner and the automatic gain control. If I have too much gain I pull in channels from Grand Rapids, Rockford and Milwaukee and causes co-channel interference issues.

Hi Tyler, I put a big roof antenna into my attic (similar to cm3020 but rca 3038). I want to split to 2 coax up there and run one direct to a tv and another to my basement for a fire tv recast box. The direct one is for an elderly person so trying to keep it simple. The recast one is for the rest of us who are less technically challenged. Today is a clear cold night and I have less signal than last night which was overcast and cool. There is a power outlet up there. So, I’m wondering if I need a pre-amp, an inline amp or a powered splitter. Do you have any suggestions for me? I’m in MA 02332 pointing toward transmitters near Providence RI. I appreciate any insights.

Purchased Televes 1-Input TForce Mast Amplifier to pair with an existing ClearStream outdoor antenna and performance dropped. Signal quality dropped, and some stations no longer were able to be received. Using new RG-6 cable with very short run.

Understand that preamplifiers will only make up for signal loss in a long coax cable. They won't magically bring in channels that aren't hitting the antenna in the first place. If this amplifier did not improve reception, the issue is the antenna. Specifically, the fact that the ClearStream antenna you're using is a very basic small directional antenna with little gain. You will need a larger antenna. Consider an antenna recommendation from me below. This can prevent you from spending hundreds of dollars and time wasted on setting up the wrong antenna for your area. antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html

@@AntennaMan thanks. I appreciate your feedback and enjoy the content. I didn’t expect channels that were not there to suddenly appear, it was that channels I normally have suddenly were not there and channels that are normally very strong were 60-70% of what they normally are.

I have a 8bay antenna. Works great on UHF as expected but VHF has a few channels on certain days break up. Would this preamp work to not only improve the gain on UHF but help out what VHF signal is being received with this 8 bay antenna. Will the preamp work on VHF/UHF with a single input to it? thanks

Because of you I just bought one from the link you gave me. Hope it does the job on the 180 out . Best Regards Jack Hreha.

I ordered one, too for two dissimilar antennas (both hi VHF and UHF) aimed not quite 180 out. The issue in my case is the larger antenna (Winegard) is picking up local UHF and VHF off the back and is out of sync with the smaller antenna pointing at the stronger local stations. I require an amp on the larger antenna as those stations are near-fringe. I am hoping this, along with a new coax run to simplify and shorten the run from the antenna fixes it all. It appears this is what it is designed for.
