The tone of the poem is one of exaggeration (the eyeballs on the floor being one example), it is also of anger (notice the strong language Dahl uses for the TV set ... As I mentioned, you need to remember some of the adjectives used for TV and use them as part of your answer). The tone is also of how to set things right ... the tone is also of introducing positivity into the lives of the children instead of junk (as in TV). The tone is also of positive transformation that the parents should introduce in the lives of their children. Overall, the tone is also very futuristic because even though the poem was written many years ago, it is still very relevant. Maybe u could add the smartphones and social media to the list of TV !!

why were the brains referred to as softened cheese? Also, our teacher told us to have a look at all the novels and its writer in the poem like( Mr. tod is a fox) as she said that the council of board always asks what's not given in the poem..] please do a deep analysis of this poem like cold within you did .!

``Softened'' here is used in the context of being dull. That the brains become soft and dull like cheese by watching too much of television. While you should know the different characters who are mentioned in the poem, so that you can mention them in your answer. But to expect the students to know the back story of each character mentioned would be a bit much. On the contrary, students are tested on how well they know the poem ... both in terms of thoroughness with every phrase and also the analysis. the few characters mentioned are from Beatrice Potter's stories ... like Mr Tod who is a fox in the story.

"Good gracious" is just an expression of fascination, like wow. Penelope is a dish. So the meaning goes on like this- "It smells so good.What is it?Oh!wow its Penelope(some sort of dish);"

Penelope is the name of a girl. When they say "Good gracious, it's Penelope!", they are referring to the cannibals who "crouch around the pot" and are preparing Penelope, a girl, as a dish. It is a humorous statement.
