Over the last month or so I've listened to this tune maybe 50 times. Maybe more. It never gets boring and with each spin I pick up something I hadn't heard before. It's brilliant.
No question! It is THE essential electric guitar album and perhaps the most flawless album from start to finish of any I have ever heard . The album doesn't even have one moment that falls below brilliance.
I saw Television play live in Manchester, England in 2004. They were on the bill with Patti Smith - Fantastic concert which is one of my Treasured Memories !!!
I saw them only once, Summer of 1976, their sound was aweful then. When the released their first album in 1978 or so, I couldn't beleive it was them playing compared to the show I saw in CBGBs in 1976, they made a tremendous progressn in just one year
always feel for the bass player and drummer in television...tom and richard noodle around so much and instead of just ramming the song in....but what a band
This is a strong performance, definitely one of the best I've seen of Television live. But why does it cut off in the midst of Verlaine's extended solo? I wanted to hear the rest of it. Maybe guitar players can address something for me. Some of the solo Verlaine is playing reminds me of his extended solo in "1880 or So," on the Jools Holland program when Television performed, a version you can find on this site. It sure seems like some of the same or very similar licks. And I have been a fan of Verlaine's work, particularly quite a bit of his solo recording.
Feel like im shopping at the paranoid supermarket.i get in line and my wife calls and just as im leaving she needs afew more things.its ok i love going back in the suoer market
This is in a different key to the original.... The original was in D Mixolydian, this seems to be half a tone lower... C#? Still a rocking version though, as a guitarist this song is probably my favourite song to jam along with :)
Jason Sonier While I agree they don't use standard tuning and sometimes in that tuning it will say your in tune but still sounds s little off which is what I believe he's trying to do is tweak it
@minooye Actually, considering that "Marquee Moon" was recorded live in a single take, I think it's just his age. There aren't many videos of him performing it from the 70's / 80's. Actually, I haven't seen a single one.
It’s the original “Marquee Moon” lineup… Richard Hell was the original bassist, but was gone before they recorded the LP. Fred Smith replaced Richard Hell, and was the bassist on “MM”
Singing of Tom Verlaine is between Bon Scott and Bruce Springsteen!!! Seriously I think I never heard someone singing so bad!!! And what a shame coz Marquee Moon is one of the most creative song written in the rock history!!!
Yeah, the voice is awful. Oh well. Interesting especially to see who plays what as there were no videos of this in their hey day. Seems Lloyd sticks closer to the original parts and Verlaine wanders more. Anyway, these guys don't have much of a recorded legacy relative to other great groups, but what is there is as good as any.
Todo lo que NO hay que hacer cuando tocas en vivo durante el primer minuto! SOMETHING what you NEVER... NEVER EVER SHOULD DO on a live performance for a big crowd. If you use different tunnings, use more than 1 guitar. In this case, they have more than one guitar, but, only for being stubborn, they don't do.
Vocally, his intentional attempts to sound even more thin weedy and abstract tahn he does on the records seem to me influenced by what Bob Dylan does. I love it all anyway.
No creo q tengan tanta calidad como su fama y status de grupo de culto requeriría. No inventaron nada, y hay cientos de bandas en la historia del rock que tienen más calidad y cuyas discográficas tienen mayor enjundia que la de Television.
