I remember somebody posted a comment on one of the old videos that made me laugh so hard, it went something like this: "Alright Penpals, our show is about the darkest aspects of humanity and the world that the main characters live in is on a precipice of an apocalypse. Can you make a song that captures that feeling?" Penpals: yeah :D
It would be awesome if they did an actual good animation, and they played this at the end after Griffith and the God Hand gets clapped. I'd happily die on my deathbed if that dream happens when im 70 lol
Considering the band of the hawk were mostly teenagers and turning 18 including Guts and most of his colleagues, I can see why the anime opening would choose something that would fit their nature, a late 90s garage rock that somehow describe their 'teen angst' in a way they always got themselves into - emotion, drama, trauma or rejection. But I think it fits Guts and Casca the most since this song kind of associates them the most, about their troubled pasts and how they managed to find acceptance in the band of the hawk. Some of the members of the hawks could also be described as troubled teens since some of them are sons of runaway nobles, ex-prisoners and thieves. Something reckless they did in the past until they found their answer under Griffiths' wing.
then all that gets ripped from under you, leading to a ruthless, raw, revenge arc!! Thats what I love about berserk, you are built up on this beautiful story with all the loose ends coming together, then everything crashes and burns, which makes it so you relate to Guts relentless rage after golden age, the reader can feel his pain.
i think if u grew up before 00s this sound is more for u. like not so clean as the new songs. it like the songs have souls. i know its weird to talk about songs like this.
@@michaeldota3210considering this was released for the 1997 which is still kinda on the aftermath of grunge/punk scene i think this song made so much sense
There was another vid of just this version of the song but with a picture of Guts, sadly the video was privated (or possibly deleted at this point) even though it had roughly 50 million views within a decade of being available
This is my favorite Berserk opening. I don't know which one is best, and I think trying to pick one is futile. But this opening reminds me of all the (admittedly seldom) bright moments in Berserk. Those times, especially at the beginning, when things aren't so dark. The sun still shines, and flowers still bloom. Guts, Casca, and the band of the hawk still travel in their caravan across the countryside in summertime. There are no demons to be seen, and the worst thing that could happen is some bandits might try to attack them and be dispatched without effort.
Very True, this was their Golden Age arc. Even though they had to fight for their lives at times, like when they had to take that fortress or when Zodd jumped them, they were free in a sense, under contract, but young and free. Then they grew up, now they're enslaved by the memories of the past and the pains of what may happen in the future. They're not free anymore, but they can try to be.
"To all things comes an end. We are no more than a character in a story. Our lives easily extinguished by an arrow or a stone. Turn the page and thousands die. And for what? For the pride of two leaders who are inextricably drawn together by the power of two swords and a mutual destiny."
Lyrics: Feel no shame about shape Weather changes their phrase Even mother will show you another way So put your glasses on Nothing will be wrong There's no blame, there's no fame It's up to you, the first words should be finded Whatever holds you back, I can, I can get it off [Chorus] Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you want I don't know why, don't know why, don't know why you afraid Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you say I don't know why, don't know why, too late, it's too late [Verse 2] Have no fear for real, it's just a turning wheel Once you start up there's no other way Don't put your eyes on boots, step forward your roots There's no aid, there's no trade, it belongs to you [Bridge] Before you miss something given You should know what's the truth I can, I can make it out [Chorus] Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you want I don't know why, don't know why, don't know why you afraid Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you say I don't know why, don't know why, too late, it's too late [Instrumental breakdown] [Bridge] Before you miss something given You should know what's the truth I can, I can make it out [Chorus] Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you want I don't know why, don't know why, don't know why you afraid Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you say I don't know why, don't know why, too late, it's too late Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you want I don't know why, don't know why, don't know why you afraid Tell me what, tell me what, tell me what you say I don't know why, don't know why, too late, it's too late
This fits Guts so much before he even thought about finding his own dream. "I can't get it all, tell me why tell me why", and the vocals and instruments are all over the place represents Guts' life aswell. The intro's visuals explains it even more. And finally at the end Guts' going on the light represents he is finally gonna go after his own dream

hearing this takes me back to a time in my life and reminds of me of my first time experiencing one of the greatest works of fiction that has ever graced the planet.
The only shame is that we will never get to hear this song cut in with it's classic guitar riff right before Guts and Griffith square up and show down for the last time.
I am a music nerd. I grew up in the 90's. Two things. You can tell theyre highly influenced by Archers of Loaf. The Washington scene was huge in the underground in the 90's. It was overshadowed by the Seattle grunge scene..but they produced some heavyweights like Archers of Loaf and Polvo. Secondly...I literally just started watching Berserk and the intro and outro music totally, 100% does not go with the series AT ALL. Its also hilariously bad English which makes it even more enjoyable. I do like both songs and I understand peoples nostalgic affiliation with it due to the show but really...it totally does not fit in. But thats one thing I like about Anime...they just do whatever the fuck they want which is totally awesome, creative and punk rock. What they should have done was played either Folk Metal or Power Metal a la Finntroll or Iced Earth. Dystopian-Magical Midevil times? How could you not? Instead they choose early 90s hipster indie rock? FFS.😂
old anime adaptation is on netflix in some countries atm. Legendary good story but prepare for the saddest plottwist ever (really not an exaggeration) that can potentially scar you for a few days or weeks. And maybe you have the urge to know what happens after so you start to read the manga, become obsessed with it and arrive at the current chapters xD
