I had my own expereince with TE in 2022-2023. My experiences was similar but my shedding waa extremely fast. I had an accident and shattered both of my feet. They were so bad i couldn't leave my bed for six weeks. This was in July. In Nov i noticed my hair thinning but i didnt think too much of it. Within a couple of weeks i lost more than half of my hair and what was lert felt like straw. I kept my hair line but everthing up top was gone. It was all scalp. I had juat finalized my divorce of 17 years too. It is very very unsettling to lose all of your hair so quick. Im 51 and a male bur a full head of hair and no baldness in my family. A lot of people just said get over it. Its just hair. What did you expect? Never lose you hair? None of that helped. I was open about it and posted on Facebook what i was going through. I did my homework - i knew what was happening wasnt normal balding. You dont go bald all at once and quickly. When i read about TE it made total sense to me. I read that if i started rogaine i would shed MORE and when i stopped i could lose what i gained. So i did nothing but wait. The shedding stopped almost as quickly as it began. I still had hair up front so i combed that back and wore my hair slicked back. Nine months passed and i wasn't seeing the bald patches anymore but my hair had so many different lenghts it was hard to know what was what. It hadn't been cut in almost a year. June 1,2023 i got my hair cut short and all of my hair had grown back. ALL OF IT. If you have TE dont panic. Its the most common cause of hair loss. Most times it will grow back 100%. Thanks for this post

I had COVID in september 2021 and hospitalized for two weeks. I nearly expired. My hair started coming out in huge wads the week after thanksgiving. Thankfully I started with a thick head full, today I barely have any at all. I have now lost about 2/3 of my hair. If it doesn't stop falling out, I'll be bald soon. Thick lustrous hair that I got complements on constantly. But I'm alive, and hopefully my hair will eventually come back.

One of the most important things is iron (ferratin) which is stored in the bone marrow. If the body tales vital nutrients from the stores like this when stressed, with drawing from the extremities, it's important to replace the stores of lost vits and minerals. Loads of ppl swear by iron to reduce hair loss and for regrowth.

I am eating a healthy diet from almost 2 months now. I do proper hair oiling and wash with parabens and sulphate free shampoos. My blood test is normal with ferritin levels on borderline. I am consuming B12-Ferritin syrup from past 2 weeks. Every time I touch my hair I have around 20 strands in hand, pillow cases and everywhere makes upto around 300 approximately hair fallen throughout the day without any hairwash. I am really worried about it. I have thin strands of hair type No history of thyroid in family. What could possibly be the cause?

I've been going through TE for the past three months. I had a phone appt with my first dermatologist. After having blood work done and her finding NOTHING wrong with me, she determined that I had Androgenetic Alopecia and told me to use Rogaine, but warned me that once I stop using it, my hair WILL begin to fall out again, plus more hair. So I went for a second opinion. I was actually called into the dermatologist's office, where I showed her my results from my blood work and told her what the last drema. told me. She looked at my scalp and did a pull test and said "I am over 100% sure and confident that you have TE." She told me I could use rogaine, but like the last derma said, once I stop, it will fall out. It's something that will have to be used in my daily life moving forward. She and my husband recommended I don't use it.
@DoctorpediaYT
@DoctorpediaYT 3 года назад
I am so sorry you are going through this much hair loss. I do recommend Rogaine for both TE and androgenetic alopecia. It does take 6+ months before you start to see it helping but it does help. Once you stop it, the normal processes take over and you start to lose your hair again. Just like going to the gym, once you stop working out you start to lose the fitness that you have gained. I am glad that you are getting help and hopefully this will turn around soon for you.

I was diagnosed with COVID on 8/31/2021 and was very sick for about 2 weeks with high fever and all the other symptoms as well. I was not hospitalized and was not given any treatments or medications. I pretty much just went home from the Doctor and suffered through it. I thought I was just about over it and feeling back to normal until around the weekend of 10/16/2021 when taking a shower I noticed a LOT of hair coming off my head. I have fairly long and very thick hair so at first I was not concerned. But this has been happening every day for more than 2 weeks now and it feels like the thickness of my hair is diminished by at least one third. I am considering using 5% monoxidil. I'm nervous about doing that though, could it make it worse? Seems the official name for the condition is telogen effluvium. Has anyone else had this happen after having COVID? If so what treatments are successful? Thanks!

To stop or slow hair loss. Exfoliate scalp, use natural organic shampoo conditioner, get split ends cut off, use INTACT complex scalp oil to prevent hair shedding while brushing hair, purchase a laser cap, purchase 82M Instead of instore minoxidil. Works way better and not greasy. Lastly take hair vitamins. Get PRP with Bio-d scalp injections. Its a lot but it works.

Hi , In the last 7 months I lost about 70% of my hair. Everyday about 500 hairs were falling out in clumps so rapidly everywhere in the shower, on the pillow ... just everywhere. I went to a dermatologist who said its Telogen effluvium as a results of stress. I also have iron deficiency(Iron 56 and ferritin 30) because of a vegetarian diet for a dacade. Now taking iron pills twice a day. I also had about a year ago minor surgery but with full anasthesia. I'm very stressed to the point my dermatologist told me I need to take antidepressant pills to alleviate my anxiety. Can anasthesia or iron deficiency can cause Telogen Effluvium? I was also very stressed because of a few examinations I had in university , is this type of stress can also be a cause for this condition?Is ferritin 30 can be related to hair loss? I'm using minoxidil already for the past 5 months but the shedding didn't stop and the hair is getting thinner and thinner. Thank you so much!!
@lydia2365

Iron deficiency definently can have an effect on your hair, if the appropriate nutrients cannot get to where they need to be. Anesthesia can have an effect as well, as it puts some stress on your body.

Thank you for your comment. Here is Dr. Anderson's reply: "Please see your local dermatologist as well as your Primary Care Doctor to discuss. It seems you have multiple things that could be causing hair loss from low ferritin (although not extremely low but still in the range that it COULD cause hair loss), plus surgery and stress. All of these need to be thoroughly evaluated so that not only does your hair return but also so that you can be healthy."

I can swipe my hands through my hair and usually get 3 or more. Some with bulbs on the bottom. I lost a patch near the front of my head on one side but no so much on the other. 2 years ago I took antibiotics and since then nothing has been right. I have had all kinds of issues and most of all my gut flora is all messed up. I even have gluten sensitivity now. I have seen 3 dermatologists. All with different opinions. None of them offered a biopsy. All they want to do is give me finasteride. I refused. I wish there were more doctors like you who actually test and get to the root of the problem. Any suggestions?
