This is an informative video and confirms all the research I've been able to find. I have Chronic TE. I don't always know when I'm stressed. But I've realized if I'm consistently taking Sensoril Ashwagandha, I experience less shedding during an episode. I want to speed up the process- how would I know if taking oral minoxidil will cause further massive hair loss? Is this true of everyone who uses it? Is there any scientific proof applying melatonin to the scalp helps in treating TE? Thank you tremendously for the vitamin suggestion. I am going to give it a try. You seem like a phenomenal physician!
Just found your channel and i love it! I would love to see a video about a dietary approach to preventing/reversing greying hair. Keep up the good work! Have a great day! 💖🐈⬛🐾🐾👍
Will definitely give Untangled a try as its profile has all the essentials and, as a 2 month supply, is significantly less expensive than Nutrafol. Thank you for the suggestion.
Been losing hair tremendously for nearly three years! 😭 My derm thinks it’s TE but it’s not stopping. I’m often Omg crying over how thin my hair has become. Why won’t it stop omg 😩
Hi, doctor! I really love your articulation of dermatology issues as well as your delivery and personality. I’d like to ask if you could pls address melasma in darker skin tones.
Make more videos. I had alopecia areata and lost a tremendous amount of hair for like 6 months. I chose no treatment (the dermatologist I went to was trying to grow hair on the egg) and eventually my hair grew back. And I lost 3/4 of my hair. Hairs grew back and I didn’t notice it at all, baby fine, it is not like stubble. And I became very educated on alopecia. My mother started to lose her hair after a surgery and traumatic sickness. She is feeling desperate like I did and I feel like me learning about all hair loss is helpful. I am hoping I am right that she has telegon effluvium.
To stop my hair fall, I began using a soft silk pillow case to sleep on. I also used liitleextraa cocoonniion hair oil shampoo duo. These changes helped me lose less hair. After a couple of months of applying them daily, my hair stopped falling out totally.
Loving the series so far. I loss my mom Thanksgiving day. The stress made my hair fell out and shed. Currently in month 2. Add in menopause , and not eating as much. Sucks. Currently taking zinc, pumpkin seed and saw palmetto for supplement. Using Nizoral 2 times a month. Deep Conditioner 2wice a month. I rub a bit of rosemary oil every other day. Well keep fingers crossed. Deep dive menopausal skin dryness
@@TeawithMD, how dangerous do you think it is to use minoxidil if you have cats? I’ve heard cats can die from licking a hat that was on a head that had minoxidil on it .
Thank you so much. I was hospitalized 3 months ago, I had beautiful hair. I lost a lot of blood and weight. My hair starting falling about 3 weeks ago and I'm already about 60 percent loss. Which is massive. But, I'm almost positive it's telgen effluviam, because I'm a nurse. But I do still have an appt to make sure. I have started minoxidil on my own, so I'm glad this is a safe thing to try. Thank you again. It's kind of you to give this information for free.
The untangled supplement contains iron and zinc which are both minerals that shouldn’t be combined so this is not a great supplement unfortunately. It’s best to take both these minerals separately for optimal absorption
I’ve always read it is 2 to 3 months post trigger, but if it is indeed up to 6 months post trigger, then it makes sense in my case. I have been trying to figure it out my cause, but you are the first to say six months.
@@TeawithMD Thank you! I've already scheduled my ultrasound and done some blood work. Could things like rogaine and supplements (Untangled) help? Not instead of working with my Ob/gyn, but in addition to
My daughter is 12 years old. I noticed her hairline receding and her frontline parting is widening. I am so scared about what to do. Can you guide me what steps to take?
Hi, Just found your chanel snd enjoy the info. Please can you do a video on the causes and solutions for scalp pain? Especially burning scalp pain?? I have burning scalp pain and tenderness for 4years(comes and goes) but i have no hair loss.
Can telogen effluvium effect some area more instead of evenly distributed? My gf has hair shedding across her scalp, but more on right hand side, and particularly very thin (not bald, still got some hair and new growth hair but apparently very see-thru) in a spot that is like 3 inch diameter. She had drastic changes in career, diet and relationship in last year, stress from family, wedding and also Covid. 7 months ago a small bald spot appear suddenly, 7 months in the spot now has hair regrow but hair thinning/shedding as mentioned above continue, especially in last couple months Positive pull test, waiting for blood work result
Is PRP recomended while in teleogen effluvium and after stopping PRP in couple of months ( after Telogen elfluvium stops)does it means hair will naturally cant grow back cause PRP interupted normalizing it self ?
My dermatologists look at my head and i already knew i had TE but she said there was redness and she said TE with stressful inflammation secondary she gave me ketoconazole and topical steroids
Hello! Topical minoxidil can help speed along the recovery of TE, but even if you don’t use it, most likely the hairs will grow back once the cycle of shedding has completed
What causes white hairs to change back to their natural color again ? i.e. white hairs that are turning brown again... If you have had the loss for a year also, is there hope it will still clear up?
What?!? 😳 Retinoids??? Now I've added one more potential reason😭 I know I have to see a doctor, but in the meantime, I'm on a verge of a mental breakdown. It happened so quickly. It's better to keep watching your video and stop trying to make myself feel worse. 😊
Hi Ayesha, in telogen effluvium, the newly growing hair shouldn't fall out unless it experiences a new stressor that shocks the new hairs from the growing phase into the shedding phase. If there is an underlying medical condition though, that can cause new hairs to also be affected.
Hello, minoxidil can certainly help TE. Azelaic acid not so much evidence in TE. Tretinoin or retinol is more to increase absorption of the minoxidil so can be used in conjunction
How is the hair loss cause determined? My dermatologist just said it was androgenic alopecia on the 1st appt but I suspect is telogen effluvium since it has happened after multiple stressors in my life.
I can often differentiate androgenic alopecia vs telogen effluvium based on the distribution of hair loss. Androgenic alopecia in women shows up mainly as widening of the part whereas telogen is overall thinning all over the head. A physical exam can help and a thorough history too. Sometimes both can present together too
@@TeawithMD, I would like to try minoxidil but am afraid to because it’s toxic to cats apparently even if the cats just sniff something a head with minoxidil on it has been on (like a pillow). Is there any non minoxidil containing serum that you think helps with hair growth ? What about serums containing caffeine or peptides or saw palmetto? Thank you.
The Rogaine for men packaging clearly stated that it's for use by men only, and says do not use if you are a woman. Are you sure it's okay for women to use this product? I'm kinda scared something bad might happen.. :(
I am a 23 year old female, with little stress about hairfall. My hair thickness has reduced to half of what it was in 2 years, I had colored my hair 7 months back. I am eating a healthy diet from almost 2 months now. I do proper hair oiling and wash with parabens and sulphate free shampoos. My blood test is normal with ferritin levels on borderline. I am consuming B12-Ferritin syrup from past 2 weeks. Every time I touch my hair I have around 20 strands in hand, pillow cases and everywhere makes upto around 300 approximately hair fallen throughout the day without any hairwash. I am really worried about it. I have thin strands of hair type No history of thyroid in family. What could possibly be the cause?
Hello, postpartum hair loss is a common type of telogen effluvium. Even if you don't do any treatments, it will likely grow back on its own. But if you want to try something, Rogaine can help (initially many of the loose hairs will fall out in the beginning!) and supplements! Always check with your doctor to make sure the supplement you're using is safe for breastfeeding if that applies
That depends on your scalp honestly; generally I advise 2-4 times per week but if you have oily scalp or work out and sweat more often you may want to wash more
After stopping the use of minoxidil i have heard that the hair start shedding again...Is this true? So like does one have to apply minoxidil forever? Btw love watching your content!
I was diagnosed with TE in December 2022, since then I have stopped chemically treating my hair, eliminating stressors in my life, and taking Nutrafol, also. I wash my hair only 1x week since it is a traumatizing event, which makes it difficult since I'm a personal trainer, and sweating is unavoidable. That being said, I was suggested Minoxidil when I was diagnosed, but was also mentioned I will have additionally shredded with this product, is this true? I'm in the process of searching for a new dermatologist that specializes in hair loss that can give a plan of action, I wasn't open to a hair biopsy at my 1st visit to the dermatologist in December.
Yes, another dermatologist on yt says that, while minoxidil does cause more initial shedding, the reason is that it’s stimulating the hair growth cycle, so the hairs that were gearing up to shed start doing it sooner. More abundant growth is evident after a few months, I’ve heard.
