Thank you so much for all these videos. I've lost about 60% of my hair due to my struggles with an eating disorder over many years. It is so depressing and hard on the self esteem, which I obviously already have a lot of issues with. I appreciate your positivity in these videos and they give me hope that things can get better if I try to take better care of myself.

Got Sick end of March and today I’ve lost about 50% of my hair, which is already thin and fine so now idk how to hide it. I’ve been very depressed and trying to make the best of it. It’s hard. Lucy Stentaford my dermatologist said they’re seeing a ton of this due to COVID. It really tears your body apart so it’s no surprise there are longer term issues. Mine seems to have slowed down a little. I’m taking a biotin supplement and using liquid minoxidil (generic Rogaine for women from Target) and I’m seeing a lot of baby hairs coming in!

elovejoy925 thank you for sharing. I too had COVID in March. Recently, I started shedding hair like crazy. My daughter was sick in February which we thought was flu and her hair started falling out before mine. I’m certain it’s from COVID. My Dr. says it’s stress and keeps prescribing different anxiety meds that I’m not taking because the side effects are “crazy”. I’m still in freak out stage but I’m so glad to know I’m not alone.

It's comforting to know that we're not alone. It's almost a year since I had a Bowel Resection done and 3 months later my hair started falling out, and because of it I chose to cut it really short because I felt it wouldn't be as noticeable. Needless to say, it only made me feel worse. Spent my entire summer in hiding. The hair continued to shed for a couple more months and sometime in mid September it stopped. We are in the first week of November and I do notice that it's starting to grow again and fill in . I was taking a Hair, Nail vitamin and when it ran out, I continued taking Biotin. Honestly, I don't think anything can make it grow back, it's just a matter of time before the follicles wake up again. I agree that the longer you stress about it the worse you'll make it. The good news is, IT WILL GROW BACK and as she pointed out, it doesn't happen over night. In the meantime, do something nice for yourself and take the focus off the hair loss. It's temporary even if it doesn't feel that way. Good Luck :-)

I had a perforated colon in January which necessitated 2 surgeries. After the 2nd one I started TE. I’m starting to get regrowth but am anxious every time I wash my hair. My shower stopped up and we got a whole ponytail worth of hair out. I wash every 3 days now. Hope that is frequent enough. My surgeon wasn’t familiar with surgery related TE so I took her some information. She said it happened to her during her residency. Must be pretty common for various reasons.

This video is really helpful. About 2 months ago I noticed I was shedding much more hair than normal. I discovered later on, through some research that certain types of hormonal birth control can contribute to hair loss and can trigger TE, which is what I believed to be causing my hair loss. It is so extremely traumatizing to watch so much hair wash down the drain, and I had nobody to talk to about what was happening to me. I had such long, full hair and suddenly it getting thinner and thinner. Even my normal doctors chalked it up to too much stress. It still causes me so much anxiety when I comb my hair or wash it and see so much falling out, but I have seen new growth and tons of little tiny baby hairs popping up all over my scalp. I'm hoping the shed will eventually slow down, but until then I'm trying my best to just make it day by day and feel secure in knowing that this isn't permanent and that I have more hair than I really know.

@@fairygrl999 Hi love, so sorry to hear you’re going through this, it’s devastating to lose so much of your hair and I can relate to so much of what you’re going through right now. I used to not wash or brush my hair for weeks on end because I was so scared of getting in the shower and seeing all my hair go down the drain but I promise you it does get better. I started to see my hair regain thickness in late 2022 and I actually went to a new hairdresser the other day and she complimented how thick my hair was which made me tear up a bit. I think a lot of it (unfortunately) is just time and making sure you’re nourishing your body which I can understand is going to be a huge struggle if you’re going through a deep depression. I’m sending you a huge hug right now and really hope you can get through this and come out the other end with beautiful hair! Also there’s a telogen effluvium subreddit you can join if you’re looking to connect with other people who have it, might make you feel a little less alone in what you’re going through. All my love x

Loved the get over it tip! In the begging I was really really upset and do have days when I am more down than others, but overall it is so good to know that you are beautiful even if you don't feel it! I am struggling with TE from some strange medical issues that occurred over the last couple months. Long story short I was diagnosed with a terminal illness which turned out to be false, about a month after I was starting to recover from said terminal illness I was shedding massive amounts of hair. I have tried to eliminate all other stress forms, eat good, and focusing on regrowth, but I am still shedding more than I would like. Not as much as it was in the beginning, however. Anyways that's my story, would like to hear from others. Like Lauren said we are a community, now lets support each other!!!
@LAURENNEWLY

Hi Sally!! SO happy to have you here and that you were willing to open up about your story! I truly can not even imagine getting a false positive for a terminal illness, that must have been such a rollercoaster - but I am so happy you are on your way to being healthy, with a lovely head of hair too! I know how you feel - feeling like you're doing all the right things but you are still shedding, but you just have to have faith that if you stay on the right path the shedding will slow and regrowth will speed up. It's a long process but your body wants to be healthy and happy, you just have to help it out a bit sometimes!

I have thick hair so this is really traumatizing to me. I've always been complimented on my natural colour and silkiness and now this. Honestly wanted to keep this a secret from the world. It's friggin scary!! However, I decided to open up to people in my social media community and thankfully everyone just wants me to get better. I'm so concerned about my look that this is making me feel so insecure. NOW IS THE TIME TO TRY STEP #1! Let's see what my doctor says and I'll try my best to overcome this challenge. I’m 20yrs old and started experiencing extreme shedding after having Mono in December 2022. It’s now June 2023 and my hair is STILL shedding soooo much, I really related to dreading showers, I hate running my hands through my hair and losing 20 strands in one sweep. I was extremely stressed when I was going through the health stuff, like EXTREMELY STRESSED. I think the stress + compromised immune system really just obliterated my hair follicles. I’ve been diagnosed with TE by one doctor, i’m currently working on getting another doctor to check me out because i’m afraid of it being AGA or the TE unmasking the AGA. So far most of the thinning is diffuse (all over) with the thinnest parts of my hair being my sides and back crown area. All hair falls out with the follicle and my hair has become very dry and brittle. Ive begun taking vitamins, b12 complex, sea derived biotin, vitamin D, Iron capsules, Turmeric, Reishi, and Zinc, as well as eating a high protein diet. To hydrate my hair i’ve been applying hyaluronic acid, it’s been really helping me keep my remaining hair soft and hydrated. I also apply it on my scalp and it REALLY helps with hydration; I use the laroche pose brand. I’ve been working out more recently and trying to remind myself that if it continues to get worse there’s always wigs and that my hair shouldn’t be something I rely on so heavily. Getting over it is really tough but it really is the first step. I hope all of our hair loss is resolved and I’m grateful to have god guiding me throughout this journey! I pray for y’all and send you guys love ❤

I believe the supplements + change in diet helped me the most. I take vitamin d, iron, nourkin, vitamin e, b12 complex, and occasionally vitamin C. I also have begun taking probiotics and eating a lot more fiber. I strive for 30g of fiber a day. My shedding has minimized but my hair isn’t what it used to be. I also began oiling my hair once a week, i think that’s also helped especially with the overall health of my hair strands. I just began major hair shedding in December. I had a terrible case of Covid 19 in late September 21. Everything is showing that TE is up 400% and it's believed to be from the stress of Covid. Well, at this point I believe I've shed around 40% of my hair. I certainly hope I am not one that continues to shed hair for another few months. It seems like the shedding is slowing down, so that's good. It's nothing like it was the first two weeks. Here is to growing back some beautiful healthy hair over the next year!

Shoutout to my fellow COVID survivors/long haulers. I was in a coma in the ICU for about a week and a half due to respiratory failure due to covid. It was actually a really close call for me, I’m lucky to be alive. I’m supposed to be a bridesmaid in a couple months so I’m extra scared of ruining the pictures. I’m finding clumps and clumps of hair falling out every time I shower. And excess stray hairs falling out throughout the day and on my pillow when I wake up. I’m glad I’m not the only one going through this. I’m currently taking a biotin supplement as well as a gentle iron supplement. I’m also trying different biotin-forward shampoos/conditioners. Trying to improve diet. Any other tips from anyone? They’re greatly appreciated 😊 Much love and healing to everyone!

Dr told me it would fix itself, here I am a year later and it's back again...and worse this time. I go see my dr again about it, but I feel like your videos are going to give me more insight that she will (based on how vague she was the last visit). I've been feeling sorry for myself the last few weeks but watching this makes me want to take things into my own hands. So nice seeing someone on the other side of those awful condition.

GIRL! you can do it! just stay focused and positive, trust me... if it was caused from something like birth control I really believe it is fixable, and you should believe it to! Go to your doctor but always trust your gut and instinct - intuition is rarely wrong! so happy to have you here!!

I am extremely thankful for you, putting out these tips. I’m suffering from (what I believe) TE right now, and I’m so bummed out. Your video has really helped to refocus my attention on these points. I’m also taking your advice from the previous video, to get to my GP and get a CBC blood panel done, to see if I’m deficient in any vitamins/nutrients. Honestly, I think my issue is solely due to school & life stress... I’m highly anxious every day, all day... so, it makes sense that my hormones are now ganging up on me. If the GP route doesn’t give me answers, next in line is Endocrinologist for hormone testing and then onto a hairloss clinic for analysis. What makes me feel more calm is watching your videos and creating a PLAN. Sitting here and crying over it, won’t help with shit, so getting off my ass and being proactive is key. Thank you so much, again. I have just subscribed to you, and I think you are an amazing influence. 💗

I am so glad that this helped you feel better - my reasons were primarily stress from work and life stuff - things you cant really change so i can totally relate. I had every blood test imaginable! I went to see my primary doctor, 2 dermatologists, and acupuncturist. I am going to see a neurologist at the end of this month because I have experienced a lot of pain at the crown of my head along with TE. The cause of it was long term critical mental stress, high fever from the flu last year, and going under anesthesia for a medical procedure that was all done within weeks of each other. However nine months later I am still shedding more hair than I should be. I do have regrowth though thank God but I don’t think I will ever catch up with the loss. I guess I’m just going to end up having thin hair for the rest of my life. My family members say that they don’t really see it so that is a good thing. I have been taking a new supplement called Nutrafol, And I am starting my fourth month of it. If results are good I’ll come back and tell you!

My hair shedding has been present for almost 6 months. At first I thought, oh I’m just sort of changing my hair (like many people say that in 7 years you change your hair) but then it got worse, much worse. I tried everything out. Shampoos for hair loss. I even made a blood test, to see if there’s any infection in my body or maybe my level of iron is low. But everything was completely healthy. I tried to was my hair only with a shampoo which has sulfur in it, because I associated my hair loss with my seborrhea. My shedding is still unbelieviably scary to be honest, but I sort of accepted it. And yesterday I’ve found an article about T.E. and now there’s a slight chance that I won’t be bald at the end of the year. I don’t know the cause yet, and due to this fantastic pandemic I won’t be able to find out if it’s a dental problem or not. Is it bad that sometimes small pieces of hair fall out as well?

Go to a dermatologist, take iron,biotin and multivitamins supplements , drink plenty of water and eat good nutrition. Avoid heat as much as possible so wash hair with cold water and let air dry. And if you want to straighten which I don’t recommend do it 1-2 a month hope this helps in some way❤️❤️

My personal recovery diet: A lack of proteins, iron, and healthy fats are very big factors contributing towards TE. I have been struggling with TE for 2.5 years now. I too have baby hairs (thin strands of hair) and hence I feel I need to take care of my hair more than an average human being. I do these things:- 1) Have a big bowl of lentil soup (daal), an Indian recipe with spinach/kale and a spoon of ghee along with lunch and dinner. 2) Take Omega-3 tablets. Nature's bounty product. 3) I try to eat fewer carbs (not zero carbs as I am not on a keto diet) 4) I definitely eat colorful veggies with my lunch and dinner. Around 3 different colors. The big bowl of daal covers my protein requirements also keeping it vegan 5) I have oatmeal for breakfast and try to include as many nuts (walnuts and almonds) and seeds as possible (chia, ground flaxseeds, hemp seeds, pumpkin). Have a vitamin-C rich fruit with your breakfast. You can also do a smoothie or a healthy egg sandwich with avocados and tomatoes. I am also a big yogurt and milk fan, which I occasionally have when I am hungry. The big bowl of daal with spinach sauteed in it with ghee made a big difference for me. I am hair fall free currently and hopefully, it will stay a same.

@@hariv4184 No. I did have less hair but it was a uniform hairfall not in patches so I could see it thinning but it didn't thin to such a great extent that I will have visible patches. Again, it depends on how much you're stressing your body. Body gets stressed due to less Calories, less proteins as well as working out a lot. Don't do extreme cardio to lose weight. Mix it up with weight training and please watch your proteins and fats. You should get enough of it. Big bowl of daal twice a day was enough for me. Add dry fruits to your diet. Have less carbs if you're worried about weight loss along with it but don't compromise on proteins, fats and vegetables. I hope I answered your question. :-)

I wouldn't take minoxidil. You might get more stressed the first few months of more shedding it causes. Just take multivitamins, biotin, use raw African black soap to wash scalp and non chemical conditioner. It takes a few months until you'll see new hair growth. It will most likely grow back. Remember once u start minoxidil u have to take it the rest of your life. Do u actually see yourself applying it twice a day everyday? Once u stop taking it you'll have worst hairfall than what u started with. I take finasteride and it helps along with multivitamin and biotin, too bad it's only for males.

Hey Lauren, and thanks for this video 😊 I just wished to share my experience about this topic with others. I am suffering from telogen effluvium for about 2 years now. I am currently 32 years old. I visited bunch of doctors within these 2 years, my endocrinologist, ginecologist, dermathologist…but nobody kinda had the right answer why is this happening. It seems like if the stressful event caused this 2 years ago, but I expected my hair to recover from that at some point. Oh well, so far it didnt recover, it had ups and downs, but currently my hair is shedding again :/ I could notice that I had a bunch of new hair growing at some point, but unfortunately even this new hair fall down, even though it was only 5 cm long. But as Lauren said, I am kinda not stressed about it 😊 and I am kinda not fault for this, so all we can do is to wait and do your best with your hair care 😊 I am also trying to be disciplined with healthy food and going to the gym 😊 and you know what people? I think when you are doing your best to fight it, you just kinda stop being stressed about it, because you are exactly doing your best and you know, you cannot do more than that 😊 so we just wait and stay optimistic 😊 and as my dermathologist said - we are not losing our hair, it is just falling. The new hair is growing, the thing is just to make sure it wont come to this resting phaze too soon 😊

Your video and enthusiasm made me smile tonight, so thank you for that and the hope. Hope is so important, and I think what you said about coming to terms with the TE is crucial. I had a horrible case of Covid at Thanksgiving/Christmas, was in hospital all that, and on top of it have had a horribly stressful last 8 months. My hair is probably at 30/40 left right now I would guess, it's hard to tell because there are a lot of grey hairs so it blends in with my scalp, as apposed to my black hair that's left. I work in a large store, and started wearing a wig a couple weeks ago, which I was incredibly scared about peoples remarks etc. about it. No one has said anything yet, I think they notice, but thankfully have spared me the trauma of additional worry about that. I am hoping I will be able to come back here in a few months and leave a positive comment about the progress and regrowth of my hair. Seeing a dermatologist so wish me luck, and good luck to the other viewers experiencing this also.

Seen 2 other comments on this video about it, but yep, I had Covid right about 3 months ago. Few weeks ago I noticed more hair falling out than usual (I have shoulder length hair) and I chalked it up to the weather getting cold because my hair starts to dry out and frizz like wild when the winter rolls around. I stopped by a salon yesterday and was asking about something new to try to get rid of the frizz, and the conversation got let over to me asking if it was just the winter causing more shedding than normal. The lady asked me if I had covid before, I said "yea about 3 months ago actually" and she said that 2-3 months after having it people are experiencing Telogen Effluvium and she had it as well and a bunch of her clients were dealing with it. She said it usually resolves in about 6 months for most people, but in the mean time I figured I'd try to find some other stuff to use and I'll be picking up some supplements and stuff today to see if it will help cut down on the length of time I'll have to experience this. So, if you are reading this and had covid 2-3 months ago, that likely could be the reason you're on this video, just like I am.

The hair fall was just like two months and then it stopped itself when the vitamines were ok. Now, I have again TE since 15 october 2020. We are now the 2nd of January 2021 in lockdown. I know i have not enough ZINC so that's why I take supplements to boost it. But I don't notice any stop of hairloss. My hair is soooo long and was so thick. Now i'm feeling 'ugly' and I'm thinking to cut it all short again, just for the volume. But ATM there is lockdown so: no doctors, no hairdressers etc... 2021 only can get better then it is now... I know this is an older video, but if you are like me, when your hair starts to fall out in clumps you get desperate and watch a million videos to help your hair! For me the the quickest way to get your hair to stop shedding and start regrowth is stop shampoo and use Apple cider vinegar 2 times a week as a rinse in the shower! Then I use a tea mixture and spray that in my hair as a leave in every other day. Moringa power(or henna powder), clove powder, hibiscus flower, green tea, black tea, and a few drops of rosemary and lavender essential oil. Steep in a large glass jar for 8 hr, strain, and spray all over scalp and let dry. Works best if you have dark hair. In one week my shedding stopped! And like she said take vitamins and trace minerals, and eat healthy!

But just recently it has started again and even worse than last year. And I'm starting from a worse place because I was already about 50% thinner than before all of this since my hair hadn't grown all back. I have another appointment with m doc to see what's going on. I also noticed there was no new growth the past two months (and my existing hairs stopped growing). That worries me even more because if it's not growing in, how will it grow back?! I’m going to see my doctor again about this and see if there’s something that will show up on blood work. But I’m getting over it, and I’m going to change my lifestyle. I’m so unhealthy it’s ridiculous oh and I’m also a smoker 🤦🏻‍♀️ I know I know it’s horrible.

I stopped birth control in July 2019 and noticed hair loss in October 2019. I would say I had noticeable shedding until March 2020. BUT I almost forgot what my normal shedding amount was like since it has been so long so now I’m wondering if the amount I’m losing now is back to the way it was. Thank you so much for this video though, it really puts things into perspective for me and encourages me to stay positive 💗

Gotta start with tip #1 I was just diagnosed with TE today. I’ve drenched the top of my scalp in dry shampoo with tint and it’s gotten increasingly worse since I started using that product. I just started my multi vitamin a couple of days ago. This process will be a long one apparently but I truly do need to find a way to “get over” my hair loss 😞 I’m working on it

This video helped me so much. It's been a few months now since I noticed the shedding, I saw a hair specialist and she told me it was most likely due to stress (I had recently gone through a hugely stressful event) and my diet, which I am working on right now. Honestly I think I'm still struggling with the 'get over it' phase: I have days where I'm okay, I know my hair will be fine, I just need to give it time, and then I have days where I burst into tears. My hair is such a huge part of my identity and a confidence booster, so seeing it shed so much has really taken its toll on me. I do want to try some hair supplements, if anyone can suggest some good ones that would be wonderful (vegan ones if possible!). Thank you Lauren for posting this, it really does help.

I'd reconsider whether you would want to be a slave to chemicals when you start going grey. Thats when you body and needs more support to fight aging and healthy thick hair is better than dyed damaged hair that will naturally be getting thinner.

@LAURENNEWLY
@LAURENNEWLY 6 лет назад
Hey! my brows didn't shed... but i honestly don't know if thats possible cause they grow like crazy (i have to pluck them like every 4 days) - I can see how that could be upsetting, whenever i put vitamin e oil on my brows it makes them come in quickly, castor oil would be good too - cheap and worth a try at least! You could also use the benefit gimme brow or something similar to make the brows you do have thicker - its pretty easy to get off at the end of the day so you wouldn't have to do much pulling and cause extra fall out.

I did rice water masks for 45min before washing 1x per week. I only used shampoo I knew I wasn't sensitive to. I took silica, stinging nettles and b complex with an additional 500mg of b5. Absolutely avoid vitamin A. Make sure your skincare also is free of vitamin A. It shrinks hair follicles.

One of the worst things I've had happen is everyone telling me it isn't happening. Both my mom and sister have naturally thin hair and I've always had super thick hair. They just denied it, as did my hairdresser until it got really bad. That was 7 years ago or so. About 3/4 of my hair regrew, but now it's happening again. It's super frustrating. Just found out there is something called idiopathic chronic telogen effluvium, which is what I have. Super. It goes with my chronic idiopathic hives for no reason.

I can so relate to this. I'm going through my 3rd TE now. 1st time happened 5 yrs ago after a major breakup. 2nd time, 2 yrs later, trigger still unknown. The derm then said sometimes the hair cycle got disrupted after the 1st TE and so might just happened a few more times till the cycle sort of normalised itself. Early this year the 3rd TE happened, trigger again unknown but my current derm narrowed it down to probably the covid vaccination I took in Nov last year. Honestly, i dont know what to believe or do anymore. The TE is still ongoing and just because i'm unfortunately "experienced" does not make the process any less distressing. 😭

@@shan22777 It will come back. If it's TE. The hair does come back. To be honest, the density of your hair is also age related. Meaning, as we age, the thickness of the folicle, the rate of growth, it changes. Can you do things to support this? Yes, but they are expensive. PRP and Peptides. Taking a mixed tocopherol/tocotrienol Vit E is good for hair, Cod Liver Oil, Evening primrose, protein etc can also help.

Yeah, I'm a guy. My hairs been falling out like crazy lately. Not sure if this started because I was using control GX hair dye, all this Covid anxiety or some other health issue. I started doing keto back in March and noticed hair loss in early July. Have been doing low carb for years and never lost any hair. Not sure what the problem is. I'm nervous to look at my hands after shampooing because of all the follicles. Now I wash and try not to look. Lol. Definitely wearing a ball cap a lot more often! No one in my family is balding so what gives? My sister and brother both say they lost hair after losing weight. Not sure if this is the same issue. She also told me it could be TE.

I’ve been going through this since I was 16, but they told me it was TE, my blood work came back fine no hormonal imbalance they said it’s stress. That problem is I am very easily stressed and so my hair continues to be in the same phase! Right now I am 27 and it’s the thinnest it has been on top. Terrified of seeing all the hair fall and my scalp. Trying to focus on the regrowth and not panic bc panicking is more stress which means more shedding. VISCOUS CYCLE, have to stop and accept it and focus on regrowth and not what people think when they look. I’ve been using hair divers to cover up in public but I assume clogging the pores is bad. How do i hide in the growing phases??

I am so sorry you are going through this and arent feeling your best. Totally understand the viscous cycle - i really struggled with this - but you are right in saying you have to accept it and focus on regrowth it is really the best thing you can do for yourself mentally. Hair powder really helped me with thin spots and using a pomade to flatten and hold down new short hairs down - i also tried styling in more of a messy look so it didn't look so crazy with the new hairs growing in. hope this helps! hang in there!!

I have Rheumatoid Arthritis, but still have (or had) thick hair until I began the medication Leflonomide. I started taking it in late June, and in August my hair began shedding, and falling out in clumps in the shower. 😢 In October I said "Fuck this shit" and discontinued the medication. It's been about 5-6 weeks since I've been off the medication, but the excessive shedding/hairloss when washing continues. I'm trying so hard to be positive (at least it's not patchy, bald spots, etc) but it's scary. I am desperately hoping to be over the excessive shedding by the end of this year, or sooner. Hope everyone is doing okay. Hugs. ❤
