Quick video guide showing how easy it is to configure the Teltonika TRB Gateways for IP Passthrough. In this case I use the TRB140 LTE 4G Gateway and a Roaming SIM with fixed, public IP address but this process applies to other devices in the Teltonika range such as the TRB500 5G Gateway.
The important factor for IP passthrough, when you intend to use it for connection to the WAN port of a firewall for example, where you may need remote access for VPN users then you will need a Fixed IP SIM Card.
You can either use a single network Fixed IP SIM, or as is now more common, a roaming SIM that can connect to all four UK mobile networks so offers extra resilience because it can fail over automatically to a different network if the originally connected network is unavailable. Roaming SIM cards in single SIM devices like the TRB gateways eliminate the need for using a dual sim failover router.
In this example, after configuring IP Passthrough in the Teltonika TRB140, we connect it to the WAN Port of a second router (Proroute H685) and then connect remotely to the Proroute router using the public IP address and show in the WAN settings of the H685 that it has the public IP address of the SIM as the WAN IP.
