Welcome back!
Viewer Erick reached out to me in an email and recommended this foot switch and cord so I figured I'd take his recommendation and check it out. It's the perfect setup to simultaneously control your router and shop-vac while keeping both your hands free to manipulate the router.

Well, I tried to upload a video short showing the foot switch use with both a router and a shop-vac powered by it. But RU-vid for some reason won't allow me to upload a short. But - it works great with the router dialed to full speed and a 5.5hp shop-vac powered simultaneously.

Okay. You are exactly right. Turning on both the shop vac and router on the same circuit works with no problem. The foot pedal is a total game changer for me. Being able to hold the router in place with both hands and energize it with my foot has increased my enjoyment of milling 80% lowers ten fold! Thank you Vince! Also think the on/off vs momentary is the way to go.

You have cut and connected black wire I.e.. negative? Better to connect positive !

It's a cable gland. I'm not sure how much strain relief it provides, since that is not its function. It's suppose to keep out moisture and/or water, depending on its rating and fit.

How many engineers does it take to plug in a 3/8ths “cordless drill”? Just one: Vincent Smith! 😂

I setting up one of these for running my Milwaukee Portable Bandsaw. Albeit, I'm just using one outlet instead of three. Unfortunately my foot pedal connection aren't marked and I was assuming it was the middle connection, but you showed how to check for LO...like DOAH! I especially like the zip tie idea, the not cutting the neutral, and the LED lighted cord indicating power.

Do you think this would work for my sewing machine? Looks great. Great vid.

Great idea! I’ve always wanted a foot pedal or momentary switch for my shop vac as it’s a pain to walk to the corner of the shop, turn on the vac And have it running while walking back-and-forth or perhaps some smart, smart vac company will have a momentary switch at the business end

I went with the cheap plastic foot pedal on Amazon for $19.00 but I looked at this pedal and should have went with it just because it's beefy :)

It sure feels like a quality product, and the guts check out. The switch itself can even be changed out in the housing.

@@VincentSmith1776 Yeah that looks like an heirloom tool for sure. :) Kind of wish they would have done something a little more elegant for where the cordage goes in and out.

I'd like to see a model with two outlets built in.

@@VincentSmith1776 That would be ideal. The one I ordered has the cord built in and is manual instead of momentary. I am going to replace the cord cap with a handy box and duplex receptacle.

A great idea and a great video.... Cant wait to see its functionality and reliability with two different tools plugged in.... This may be great for multiple reasons.....Woodworking, metal working, leather working, tattooing, etc... I mean anything where u could speed up a process by being able to switch tools and just press the pedal.... Love the idea

Vinnie: Great video. I bought one of these things for my meat grinder/sausage making machine. Haven't strung it up yet, but it appears to be just what I need. Thanks.

This video is the only one that shows how to connect this type of foot switch step by step, I followed this video and made one to work with my LRS( low resistance soldering ) unit, it had be a heavy duty one to go with a modified microwave transformer, this footswitch works perfectly and safely.

Great idea Vince. Just ordered mine. Same switch but prewired as I’m concerned that running your Dewalt 611 (7 amps) plus shopvac will exceed 15 amps.
@VincentSmith1776
@VincentSmith1776 3 года назад
The startup definitely could, but I think the router's draw won't hit a 7 amp spike as it's unloaded on startup. I'm away from the shop but will try when I get back.

Are you going to do a lower using the pedal and plug into your router
@VincentSmith1776
@VincentSmith1776 3 года назад
I will next time I cut a lower. But right now I don't have any planned. More than likely I'll use it doing some furniture work before that. I'll post that when I do. The next woodworking video I'll have out is a nightstand I finished before the footpedal came.
