One of my favorite parts is when Tempest says "Face it princess, friendship has failed you too." It didn't sound sarcastic. If anything, it sounded hopeless and almost sad. Tempest isn't gloating or rubbing it in Twilight's face or anything like that. She just states what she believes to be a fact. Tempest is essentially saying "Welcome to my world" or "We have similar experiences." This song gets so much more meaning after that one line because Tempest is relating to Twilight at that exact moment. Tempest almost even sounds sympathetic.
"Feeling helpless/You can't make it hurt less/So you go and change your point of view/And in that moment, though you didn't know it/Your defenses set up walls you built to last..." -- Charles Whickerins, writing A Hearth's Warming Tail
I think its cool how they hid a huge friendship lesson in the movie. The reality how 'friends' can be fake and everybody is not what they seem. Its rare to find true friendship but when you do. Its powerful
This is why Tempest is my most favourite "My Little Pony" character. Because of this song, it perfectly describes the drama that some people can be going through. Abuse, sickness, depression etc. I just love this song so much. 👍👍👍
@Delali Kwakou It's a decent idea. I think the only problem is that MLP:FiM and StH have never been known to share a universe and because the animals in StH are anthropomorphic, it would be a bit weird to see animals in two different ways. There'd have to be some kind of dimensional travel to kind of nullify that weirdness.
Im honestly so glad they didn't give Tempest back her horn. A big rule regarding handicapped characters is that sometimes they shouldn't need "fixing". Tempest learned that just because she had an impairment, it didn't mean she couldn't be strong and have people who love her. She's a great character who struggled, and in the end, was able to accept her scars and move on with the support of the people around her. It's very refreshing tbh. Too many movies and shows think they need to fix handicapped characters, when they're fully capable of being great without being fixed. Many people in the world aren't fortunate enough to get solutions to their disabilities. So to have characters like Tempest who CAN thrive and find acceptance without needing to get her horn back first is great.
I 100% agree. Too many movies "fix" they're impaired characters. It sends a bad message that something is fundamentally wrong with you if you have impairments. Instead of trying to accept your impairments, you have to "fix" it
I agree, it's why I love the Owl House. We see Eda struggle with her disability, and although she can't get rid of the owl curse, she learns to make peace with it.
I love that the movie kept Tempest's horn broken, too. I know at least a few people with disabilities and I wouldn't ever want them to change. I do feel for their struggles and I wish things that seem so simple for me wouldn't be so hard for them, but I also realize that they wouldn't be the same people without their disabilities and I like them all for who they are. I'm glad in this movie, Twilight was able to get Tempest to realize that just because some ponies didn't accept her after she became disabled, that didn't mean that nopony would ever accept her.
I like how Tempest doesn't say "Somebody" and "Everybody" as "Somepony" or "Everypony", it shows how truly completely against she is about Equestria's society.
I assumed that it was because she worked with other species in the Storm King's army. Also, they're conquerers. She's probably dealt with several other species.
Fr fr. like, Tempest wasn't even being all obnoxious about capturing her, because she knew that she was left alone, and she had a good guess of why. She was just trying to help her cause she saw herself in twilights situation. Its sad really 🥲
@@fartbubbles I think it's almost purely genuine with the scene that came right after this. Tempest says "Face it, Princess - friendship failed you, too." The fact that it's "friendship failed you" shows where Tempest has laid the blame, regardless of whether she has the full context of why Twilight's alone now. Tempest isn't being malicious or anything; she has sympathy for Twilight and is basically trying to give her the best advice she can for moving forward.
I mean yeah she kidnapped her but the song itself isn’t trying to hurt her. It’s trying to stop her from getting emotionally hurt because that’s what happened to Tempest Shadow.
This song talks about how everyone starts the same but as you grow up the more you realise that friendships aren't as you thought they were. When you move onto later grades you may deal with hard times like experiencing your friends leaving you and the only real way to cope with it is to learn that being alone is the only way to survive getting through life without having friends. It also mentions how you should open your eyes that this world isn't as you thought it was like you did when you were little... love this song, so meaningful with a strong message
I think you're missing the big picture. Her view is incomplete. It's also what lead her to become cruel towards others. Twilights views on friendship were also incomplete at the start as well, but she learned that not everyone can be trusted and that even the closest friendships will always be tested. The two represent different views on friendship. But they BOTH learned that while perfect relationships arent possible, truly genuine connections will stand out from the others and outlive the challenged. They will be worth the trouble in the end. It's deeply sad to me that so many people relate to Tempest's viewpoint without understanding that this isn't all there is to real life. Yes in life there isn't exactly a dues ex machina to save you from trouble, and friendship isn't a magical rainbow blast that turns bad guys into stone. Yeah we get it, that's because stories are metaphors. We write them because we have something to say Making genuine and healthy long term connections with other peoppe IS real, POSSIBLE and BEAUTIFUL. It just takes a bit of work to get there. It's so worth it Hang in there and remember to love yourself and not settle for less. The right people will come along if you let them in
@@aiiiia9971 Yet you've missed a huge point. She was abandoned after being injured. Unlike most villains, she is relatable. She is realistic. She is the walls WE have and it feels like she speaks to US. I found this song after having almost EVERYONE abandon me for being weird. And yet here I am, happy with my gf. My new friends. I feel happy with this friendship. She was wronged, and wants revenge. She's only the villain because of how she handled it. You need to remember that this problem is RELATABLE to many people out there.
*SPOILERS AHEAD* Okay, so something that seems to be a main topic of the comments is that while Tempest declares her distrust in those around her, she trusts the Storm King. This assumption is false, however. Tempest had obviously banded with the "mighty" in her attempt to feel powerful again, and the Storm King pulled her in with the promise of her horn's return. So, technically, it was a business deal. I doubt Tempest's work with them was a permanent fix. However, after the King saw the ambition and strength she possessed, he knew what he would loose after she was given her horn. Yet the timing of his denial and him going back on his word was hideously wrong, and got him killed. TLDR; Tempest didn't trust the King,it was a shady business deal gone wrong.
She was pretty right, in a way. *If you depend on others, you'll never find your place.* And you do have to find yourself by being you, and not depending on others to base yourself on. Only you can find your place.
But the thing is, that's the exact thing that happened to Twilight. Twilight along with the Mane 5 wouldn't have gotten their place (elements of harmony) without each other.
"I'm so sorry you felt so alone." "I saw the truth. My "friends" abandoned me when times got tough. Looks like I'm not the only one. Face it, princess. Friendship has failed you, too." "Friendship didn't fail me. I failed friendship."
Brianna S If you were interested in why she does, in the comic, she says “anypony” but The Storm King makes fun of her and calls it cute, so she decided against using it in the future.
Brenna Okazaki ikr she's my second favorite EVER 1-5 1 pinkie pie 2fizzlepopberrytwist (tempest) 3fluttershy 4singing songbird 5captain from the bird pirates >~
Her backstory seemed really dull compared to how intense she was later. I was really hoping for something a bit better than 'attacked by bear.' Like maybe the Storm King did it or something and was conning her with the idea of 'I broke you, I can remake you' or something.
when i saw her, unlike everyone else I knew she was gonna be a good villain! she takes 'edgey' traits that a lot of bad ocs use yet makes them work. the armor, colors, scars and broken horn... she is such a well made character!
to be honest... I think it was really necessary for Tempest to sing this. Twilight and the gang do so many cliché stuff and rainbow magic it's just as senseless as the Dark Crystal. they really need to be 'real' for once. Tempest is a good realist for everypony.
Same. I mean, everyone who thinks differently (aka villains) just get defeated then immediately become another friend. I just want the next villain to win or go when they lose. I honestly prefer the 1st option but whatever.
Rainbowmangleartist i know right? I got tired of MLP at one point because there wasn't any solid villains the only reoccurring being Trixie ( who was a pain!) And Starlight Glimmer ( who was redeemed...). It really needed villains and characters who you could relate too.
I feel like this movie is about the average modern person. people don't trust each other anymore. Everyone is some potential backstabber or murderer until proven otherwise. We don't realize it but we believe it so strongly that it is not uncommon for people to reject help on roadways when broken down because they expect bad things from strangers. In a way we have all become a bit like Tempest.
I love this character. This song rings so true. Not everyone is your friend, not everybody is trust worthy. Sometimes you have to depend yourself. It is a painful truth everybody learns.
Pauletha Tassin True, I don't know why but this song reminds me of the walking dead. It's similar because there are times where you cannot trust other people but you depend on yourself. I feel like Tempest was trying to convince Twilight that sometimes you have to depend on yourself. Yikes.
True, but the key is moderation. Turning your back on everyone just because some can't be trusted, leaves you isolated and alone when you may most need the help of others.
JCBro2014 Fair point! But it's really sad for Tempest because of her backstory, she literally got attacked and her friends abandoned her because they were scared of her (possibly because she broke her horn as well). After that incident, she basically didn't trust anypony and depended on herself. She was even desperate that she made a deal with the Storm King so she can get her horn back.. Damn..
With how they show how her magic is powerful, even with a broken horn, did anyone else get an impression likening Tempest to a wild mage? Also, if her magic is that powerful unfocused, imagine how powerful it would have been had she got her horn back!
Tempest is right in one thing, but wrong on another. Right: you shouldn't count on other people to be able to survive, you will become a very non-well-rounded person if you do so. Wrong: you should not avoid other people because of that fact. Allow other people in your life, just don't become dependent on them.
Her past was so sad, and I can see why she joined the storm kings army, because she had her trust broken once, so she was afraid of it happening again. So she thought that it was best to not trust anyone else and just be cold and distant. Can't really say I blame her though. Trust takes forever to rebuild
Skyler Whitworth-Edwards Bullshit. It was just another ass pull out of nowhere. If they wanted us to fell sympathy they should have expanded on her backstory more, not just one song.
@Nigel Castelino I didn't like the movie very much either. The movie should've been called "My Little Random-Creature-I-Just-Pulled-Out-Of-My-Ass," seriously. There were hardly any ponies in that movie. The company is just milking the brand and stuffing it in our faces, asking for us to buy their toys.
@Nigel Castelino I'm pretty sure the movie was trying to portray that it wasn't just those two friends who didn't want to play ball, more like the entire town treated her like an outcast. But her backstory is still mediocre so understandable
Don't worry you'll end up just like me! You know, broken, depressed, no friends, abused, anger issues and even problems sleeping! Isn't that so fun? :D
As a child, you are on the side of the main characters. You grow up and realize that sometimes the bad guys can be right. As a person who was betrayed twice by “best friends,” I really understand Tempest
Well yeah, why else do you think Hellfire from Disney's Huncback of Ntore Dame is the most popular villain song? It has tragedy and a broken villain being misguided by hatred and villainy out of desperation
See, I forgot this was on my music list. And everything elsebon that list is stuff like Green Day, Shinedown, and Bad Wolves. I was in the car with my teenage cousin that I've just met, because me and her were gonna go down to the beach. Soz this song plays and I go to change it and she goes, "Holy shit I love this song." And I just look and her and say, "You like Mlp too...?" AND THEN WE JUST FUCKING LISTEN TO MLP VILLIAN SONGS ON REPET AND JAMMED OUT. Mlp songs bring people together, man.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has tons of great songs such as Magic Inside You, Release the Magic, You'll Play Your Part and so many more. You should really check it out
Never thought a song in a kids movie could tell so much and be so deep. Unlike other villains, especially in MLP, tempest isn’t trying to gloat or make herself sound powerful. Her voice, the lyrics, it all sounds genuine. You can see how the experience she went through hurt her both physically and emotionally, she sounds both pained but also serious. While she is wrong, she’s also right in what she’s trying to say. There will be those people who when you really need them, they’ll just leave you, and we can’t change that, she is kind of in the same place as twilight in some aspects. Both were unicorns who believed in friendship but what makes tempest different is that she never experienced TRUE friendship like twilight did
As an introverted and socially anxious person I've had a hard time with people, family and "friends" growing up. I really can't trust people anymore after a bunch of bad experiences and frankly it sucks because I do want to, but then I remember what happened when I did and with world as it is well... So I can relate to both Tempest and this song.
I really relate to this..I feel the same way...when the verse "and as you take that first step upon a path that's all your own..you see it all so clearly the best way to survive is all alone" I felt that...
I know your pain, I've felt it most of my life. But pain can either break you, or make you stronger. Remember my sweet child, Even if no one is there physically, We feel for you. Don't ever forget that.
Im just going to say this right now this song is PHENOMENAL 1. (Little bias for me) There are very little songs that rely on the lower part of an alto voice and this is my comfort zone to sing and its kind of a breath of fresh air to hear this! 2. You can empathize with Tempest more than you can with some other characters (not saying other characters are bad) heres why she TELLS you what she felt, music for a lot of people is a great way to show emotion because it resonates with people and I love how it’s used here Overall great song, fun to sing and emotions are displayed well
"See the world from where I stand!" *Twilight teleports out of the cage, next to Tempest, and looks at the cage, nodding* "Yeah, true. This is much better." ...what? It _could_ be possible. She never _tried_ teleporting!
Magic nullifcation/magic-proof things are to be expected. Any villain worth their salt would have SOMETHING magic-proof/magic nullifying. How the hell are you supposed to gather up the gall to attack _goddesses_ if you don't at least try to nullify what makes them most powerful? If you take away their magic, you have a more even playing field--especially since Tempest has only one real magical ability. Some villains had no magic nullifying powers like King Sombra, Discord, and the Changling Queen, but they were both very skilled in magic and Discord is, in all rights, the lord of chaos. Come on. He would've been able to turn the tides on this battle _easily._ Which is why he wasn't here.
Discord by any means has the powers of a Q. He can do whatever he wants. There is only very little that could stop him, like for example a super weapon specially designed by a just as powerful being to do exactly that. ;)
If you're talking about the orbs Tempest used to turn the princesses to stone, yeah, maybe. But what I'm saying is that he lives in another dimension, can take away the wings and horns of ponies on a whim, reverse reality, open dimensions to entirely different realities, and control chaos. Had Discord been there (Which he should've been, literally everyone was invited), this whole movie wouldn't have lasted too long. Considering he can become objects, teleport, change size, and shape-shift with his only weaknesses being the power of friendship and harmony (which ironically become strengths for him to use), I see no reason for Discord not being able to at least _rally_ them. In fact, if Discord hadn't betrayed the ponies, he'd have eradicated Tirek's entire line of plans and put him back in Tarturus. Princess Cellestia panicked when Princess Cadence was petrified, and thus scattered everyone to find help. But if Discord was there, I doubt she'd have panicked and gotten Luna to single hoofedly find an entire kingdom that vanished. But that's also the reason he's not there: his presence would've been a serious obstacle in the Storm King's plan, dramatically changing the easiest way to move along the plot. Discord would have no reason to accompany them in their quest to find the Hippogriffs, wouldn't betray Fluttershy for the Storm King, and would have been a serious obstacle when trying to capture the princesses, AAAAAAAND he would've done a great song about it, because Discord's songs are the best and this movie had its share of music numbers.
I like how this movie portrays the overtly optimistic nature of the show. All the kind, optimistic stuff that the mane characters do, which would usually work in the show, only made things worse. And Tempest here seems to see their optimistic nature as “childish” as well. But while their philosophy is portrayed as naive, it’s not portrayed as WRONG. Because even if it caused nothing but trouble for them, the ponies touched many lives with their optimism. They inspired others with their bravery and kindness to become better people. And that’s the message of the film. Maybe optimism could be considered “childish”. Maybe it could be considered “naive”. Maybe it causes a lot of trouble for you. But you know what? It’s a hell of a lot better than just being a shitty person.
You made a very remarkable statement. When you truly see the world in all its reality you will see it filled with corruption and evil. The world is unfair and unjust. People are pushed to the extreme to commit crimes to make their lives better than their miserable existence as nobody is born good or evil, They are made. The law can bend and break making the innocent be punished for crimes they did not commit and the guilty live as free as one can be. I want to change this world of ours for the better as Childish and Naive that dream could be at least I want to help Humanity and not just myself. P.S If you are religious then I am sorry, but I don't believe in God. as religion only use their Gods as a figurehead to manipulate others to do their bidding. They only divide and separate mankind more. I just wanted to make a point that even though I don't believe in mysticism and blind faith I still want to be a loving and understanding person. Have a wonderful life.
What's for dinner, This is what I am talking about. Why are you trying to make me accept religion? I already said that religions don't matter to me, What matters to me is that I am at least a good person that wants to help humanity because of love, how is that hard to understand. This is plain and simple. This is the problem with religion as they keep shoving themselves even in as if this is the most important thing and without it I am a demon or someone filled with evil. I respect religion, but why do I need to believe in it?
Sometimes you just have to rely on someone else. There are some things you cant do yourself and Tempest needed the Stormking to fix her horn -so she could be even more independent-. She tried to make sure that he would do as she asked by making a deal with him. If she gave him somehing he would give her something in return, right ? The problem was however that even something like that requires trust. I think this shows that you have to choose well who you trust. Just because she can't trust the Storm King doesnt mean she can't trust anyone. And just because she coudn't count on her friends as a child doesn't mean that she can't count on anyone at all.
My Little Pony did very well with this. It show that people like Tempest aren't necessarily villains with evil intentions, they were victims with the mindset that they couldn't, can't, or don't need to be helped. Not only that, but they also teach that things that happen to you or said to you in your childhood forms into your mind well into adulthood. Tempest was betrayed when she stood up for her people, and since she chose to run away, that's all she ever knew.
Yea, it's sad. I wanted friendship like Winx club/mlp, but in real world, friendship just ends up being misplaced when something better comes. I've been lied to, forgotten, I'm just better off by myself.
I misclicked too. I was on my little sister's account so I can check if she was watching anything inappropriate (because I'm the one who monitors that in my house) and I clicked on this. I wasn't disappointed either.
Hey, if you want... you can continue down the path of a bro- I mean here's a good song from the tv show. One of my personal favoriteru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z8uFbzbtyJg.html
@@hermescarraro3393 True. But some Villains have way more interesting backstories which are; dark, sad and most of the time betrayed and most of them want revenge. That’s why I love the “Villains”, more than the “good characters”. Tempest Shadow and Cassandra and Varian from Tangled The Series are great examples of this
Hermes Carraro that's why we love villains (or ex villains) like Nightmare Moon, Starlight Glimmer and Tempest, but we hate villains like the Dazzlings from EG
"We all start out the same with simple naïve trust. Shielded from the many ways that life's not fair or just. But then there comes a moment, a simple truth that you must face. If you depend on others, you'll never find your place. And as you take that first step upon a path that's all your own, You see it all so clearly, the best way to survive is all alone. " Why I relate to this?... :(
after being backstabbed all through middle school i became unable to trust. my mind made itself a mental block preventing me from allowing myself to be vulnerable and talk about things. because i learned in middle school a brutal lesson. you can't trust anyone with your secrets and emotions. too many times did i have my secrets and feelings i entrusted to those i thought my close friend turned into weapons against me. now even if i WANT to try to have deep friendship i can't because my mind won't let me go any further than surface level and inevitably all friendships i make just drift away like an unanchored boat drifting out to sea. i learned to be content with being alone, to even enjoy it. because the alternative is just pain. i can fully relate to the cynicism tempest has. the fact is while some may get to enjoy friendship all hunky dory. there are many others who are delegated to the status of outcast, of the punching bag. too long did i wait for that one friend i could actually trust and hold onto. too many timed did i make my self vulnerable to others. eventually i gave up waiting because i got tired of being broken down over and over. having my trust thrown in my face and used against me. tired of being hurt over and over and over. maybe if i had met SOMEONE in that hell things might have turned out differently but unfortunately that didn't happen and by the time i hit high school it was too late. i gave up. was there perhaps someone i could have had a genuine friendship with in high school? who knows. if there was then it is unfortunate but my heart is already encased in stone. protecting me from being hurt like that ever again....as well as preventing me from ever having a true friend. though honestly i will take a heart encased in stone over a true friend if getting a true friend requires me go through all that torment again.
For a My Little Pony song this is DARK! But honestly, what bugs me the most about Mlp is that friendship is always painted as something that never breaks. But, this song rebuilds my respect for the series. How friendship is being painted as something that can indeed break. Here Twilight learns that not everypony has such a strong bond as the main 6 does.
Tengo que diferir en tu argumento porque en una parte de la película twilight discute con Pinky entonces en esa parte la amistad no resistió y se quebró
@@DerMarschallDMit was like the royal wedding at the end of season two all over again - Twilight did something that almost cost her her friendship with the others and it ended in her getting captured by the big bad villain when she was most vulnerable (though Tempest places lower than the Storm King in this case). But there are three differences - unlike back then Twilight didn’t have her wings or princess title, Spike stayed behind and did his best to comfort her and her brother and mentor weren’t there for her to disappoint too since Celestia was still fossilised and Shining Armor was back in the Crystal Empire on guard duties or having father daughter time with Flurry Heart.
I understand Tempest on a personal level actually. i was bullied and had no friends because of my invisible handicap, therefore i didnt fit in at all, i had some friends when i was very young. but as i got older and still acted like a child nobody liked me anymore.
I'm not like you but I was different.. As I joked about very funny stuff nobody really liked me for some reason.. my one and only friend thought I was really funny though. As I was bullied by people you wouldn't know I'll still list them rose, landen, my own friends, luna and another friend.. nobody makes group projects with me or even plays with me at recess. I'm a very lonely perosn who only wants at least 4 close friends....
Can we all just take 5 minutes to appreciate the fact that out of all the other villains in the MLP franchise, Tempest Shadow is the only one that’s genuinely... *drumroll please* Formidable?
antiioxid [moved] That's how society has formed, from what has happened.Regardless of that, there are still people that don't want this society to stay and will stay different to change this society(the world may still be more corrupt but there are those that want to change it)
The sad, empathetic, face Twilight makes after Tempest’s backstory is sad, especially when you realize Twilight feels bad, and when it shows Tempest’s expression it shows that she has gotten over it.
(Tempest gets angry) Me: I have the high ground. Tempest Shadow: Then......you underestimate my power of the dark side. Me: You wouldn't try it though! Tempest Shadow: Oh yes i will.... (Goes up to Sasabab thinking "I'M NOT GONNA MAKE A SAME MISTAKE") Me: (Jumps to the highest ground) Tempest Shadow: (Throws temper tantrum)
Baby Demon Otaku Twins you're right life some times is serious and is not a game were you can get more chances you only have one shot so tempest have a more mature point of view because no one is going to help you when you need them they turn the back on you but well that's what tempest would say not me
Yeah, but have you considered how many of them rewatched this over and over and over and over... agains? Can't exactly like more than once. Pinkie Pie: And over and over and over and over and over and over - Twilight: We get it.
You might sink the songs funny but it's not funny on high I'm Samara I haven't believed since I was and degrade it's hard to be laughing at that but how she been treated it's hoarding you think I am lost how to lose my life almost I almost died but I'm still alive and if you think that's funny that's not how her life was I have a bad life I've been bullied my whole life Genesis called me eBay bench and everything I don't know why but call Mimi names and their family broken rides my little sister I've been getting bullied the whole time and I had to cry about it and I had to deal with it all the time so why I have to go oh wait a minute I forgot to tell you something do you ever heard of flutter cord cuz that's my channel if you see it they're pretty funny he's mean it's pretty funny it's really pretty cuz I only have one right now if you seen go on with my sister and me that would be funny ohyeah I forgot why I sing a song about it was really hard to saying it's called devil's don't fly well by
here me out. i see this song as two ways: 1. the villain showing them that they want revenge on what they believe was taken from them. 2. a person who was betrayed and wronged and want people to open up their eyes to see the lies in front of them Headnote: the more i listen to this song, the more i realise that it fits some of my oc's more and more
Fits my oc who first naively trusted his own kind with magic, only to be suddenly betrayed that led to the deaths of everyone he loves and for 5+ years, he waited, trained his newfound dark powers to the max to kill those he felt betrayed and killed his family. He was the only survivor btw
I'm not a brony myself, but I seen the scene this song comes from, and the emotions they put on the evil pony's face, they were amazing, best work I've ever seen in any of the canon clips on this show.
When I'm small I just simply think Tempest is a cold-blooded villain, but when I now hear this song again, I felt that she is the one who got hurted the most. I felt so sorry for her :(
This song is my favourite throughout the whole movie, Tempest is stating that reality isn’t fantasy, friendships can get toxic, not often joyous. She tells Twilight to grow up because Twilight always knew that friendship can always solve their problems and that was childish. This song tells us clearly about the toxicity of reality in the real world.
