As always Jeremy your projects are spot on. I wouldn’t be surprised if a tool company came to you and started having you develop tools for them and called them the Schmidt collection. I know that’s the only tools that I would buy.

you are like me, a farm boy perfectionalist, it's uncommon because when learning ad kids around the farm, alot of farmers show their kids how to get the job done the quickest way, not always the best way. This is just one of the reasons I respect your work do much!

It's the simple solutions that always elude me. If there's something that I have to figure out... I've usually found the most difficult way to approach it and my finished product shows it. Can't wait for the next one!

My projects usually start out way over complicated, but after thinking about it in the shower enough times it gets simpler. My original design for a template follower was laughably complex!

Quick tip, if you go slightly small, try knurling that end, the distortion will raise high points that will allow a press fit.

You need a cnc plasma table. My dad and I built our plasma table. I do similar projects to you, and actually made "links" for a sizing press (shown in one of my videos on youtube) which are plasma cut and then finished on my dad's 2x72 grinder. Since my sizing press uses 2 links, I bolted them together and finished them free hand. Your template setup would work even better and a steel template would likely work as well. I do not have a belt grinder and ran across your channel while researching them. Your's is the best design I have seen and even though I can use my dad's grinder any time, building a copy of yours would be a very rewarding and useful project with more options than the expensive brand he has. Great videos and channel. While my builds are very similar to yours (I'm likely older than you and have a bit more experience), I got a degree in still photography and haven't really done any video and am not excited about being in front of the camera. We would probably have a blast, given the chance to work on a project together. I really enjoy seeing your builds.

For the love of god before talking to any company get a patent on this thing. I'm a Lawyer. I know what I'm talking about.
@Jer_Schmidt
@Jer_Schmidt 6 лет назад
As long as I can make a living without patenting my ideas, I'll keep them open-source. That way they can get out there and do more good sooner. I suppose patents are a good way to make money from your ideas if you need it, but they hobble the adoption of technology.
@Clonk93
@Clonk93 6 лет назад
A Patent only provides security against commercial use of your idea. Any man can still go ahead and build it for himself at home as long as he does not intent to sell it. The problem is: If you don't patent it - someone else might and you loose the control over your idea. So even if you don't intent to make money from your idea it's still worth considering to patent it before someone else does and uses it against your believes.
