Today I got my TFO Tactical Surf 12' paired with the Penn Spinfisher VI 8500LL. I am excited to use it on the surf for stripers, reds, and other large fish! I don't know what I am going to spool the reel with. let me know what you would spool it with for throwing 6 oz weights with large chunk bait!

Nice combo there. I'd go with Power Pro 50lb braid, in the color you prefer. I think that Reel can hold 600yds of 50lb braid... That's a LOT of Braid! I'd put down a bit of mono as a base then put 300yds of braid to fill the spool.

Thats a nice looking Rod. I was thinking about getting it. I was just looking at it on "Tackle Direct". Cane to RU-vid to check it out and you're the 1st vid that came up. Holding 4-10 ounce weight is strong. I don't know how long ago you posted this, but please let me know how its worked out for you so far. Fish on!!

@jpmt4316 Thanks for watching! Yea i have the Temple Fork Outfitters TACTICAL SURF - TAC SUS 1206-2. I like the 12 ft heavy rod a lot. I am very tough on my gear and have had no complaints. Use it for surf fishing as well as catfish on the Potomac river. I throw 4-8 oz weights with chunk bait easily. The rod is light, casts well, and is sensitive. Just looked and saw I got mine from themightyfish.com back in May 2023 for only $319.95. Price has gone up a bit 😬. """Keep in mind the 70/30 split. it is a 2 piece rod but one of the rod pieces is literally 7 feet so transporting the rod in the car may be something to keep in mind""".

I have a 15 foot St. Croix Avid and it is very strong. I think all St. Croix rods are great, but I wanted something different. I saw this one and read the specifications and I was impressed. So I can't wait.
