Today is the last full day of our Vietnam, Cambodia adventure with “Great Rail Journeys”, but that did not mean a relaxing day by the pool. We were up early ready to visit more awe inspiring mystical palaces and temples around Siem Reap. The places we visit today exude a real air of mystery, half ruined with massive trees, not just growing around them, but becoming an integral part of them. It’s no wonder film makers have made good use of these awesome settings, no studio set could every replicate. They ooze with the mysteries and customs of long forgotten ancient cultures. The lake surrounding Preak Khan is Mother mature and man combining their talents to create beauty that has to be seen to be believed. The time finally comes to bid a fond farewell to Cambodia and Vietnam as we board our plane home, admiring London from above as we come in to land at Heathrow.

At 7 the world is an awesome place, Neak Pean must have seemed like a creation dreamed up by the the author of an amazing adventure story, I bet you remember that day for the rest of your life.

Tim, there's nothing wrong with your narration voice(pertaining to comment posted 17/6/2018 on Bluebell Railway). If you scripyed this narration and post-recorded same, that's really all you need to do and, in the words of the Roy Orbison song, "You got it"!

Hi, the music is listed in the credits at the end, I purchased a licence to use it from Jewlbeat.com, who have unfortunately disapeared from the Web.

@@Timsvideochannel1 Many thanks Tim - I confess. I turned off at the moment you touched down in London ha ha. My partner and I will be travelling out on 1st Feb 2020 on a 20 day overland through Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam and will have 2 full days in Siem Reap on the 2nd and 3rd February. Its very refreshing to see a video that covers the smaller temples etc that are on the Grand Circuit trail instead of those main sites on the Small Circuit trail. One final question if you can please Tim? You seemed to have got to these places when it was relatively quiet and also in glorious light; so please can you tell me what time of year you were there and what time of day (I note you published in Feb). Many thanks.

@@ijessneyHi, you did well to get as far as landing back in London; most people have fallen asleep by then. The trip you've got planned sounds awesome. I checked my photos to see the date they were taken - 2nd November. It is worth getting up early to see the sun rise over the temples, before the crowds arrive. I was on a tour that had been very well organised; we saw almost everything worth seeing. The temples are well spaced out, too far to walk between them all. It is worth watching videos posted on RU-vid to see how other people got around the site, there is no shortage of locals who will offer to take you.

Hi Tim ! Looks like the jungle has reclaimed what belongs to it...The temples still carry some signs of their old glory. Thanks for sharing! It must've been a culture shock for you while landing at Heathrow !. .:)

Hi Anjali, Siem Reap was every bit as good as the five star "Trip Advisor" reviews promised. There was something very special about the temples with the trees engulfing them. Returning home was a bit chilly, but I was glad to see my cat and know all was well.

Hi, I am pleased you enjoyed it. Visiting the temple complex was the highlight of this holiday, I especially like the trees growing out of the temple ruins, it just wouldn't look right if they removed the trees and restored the temples :-) Best wishes. Tim.

Btw: Tim, I want to ask whether you have at Britain such 'hellhounds' (13:31) esp. at regions occupied by Romans 2,000 years ago. At Regensburg, Bavaria, there is an old gate guarded by hellhounds assumed to be built by Romans practice Mithras cult (it's outside but nearby Romanian castle). Origin of hellhounds is assumed to East and South East Asia regions independent from single religions (maybe they are much older as any today religion). By this they have spread until Europe. - Heinz

Hello Heinz, they look like Chinese Lions sometimes called "Foo Dogs", see Wikipedia explanation - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_guardian_lions - It is quite common in the UK to have stone lions at the entrance to important civic buildings, but they look like lions, not the Chinese version of a lion. I am not aware of any British Roman archaeological sites where "Hellhounds" are featured. Chichester, just a few miles from where I live now, is a Roman fortified town with a wall around it and the village I grew up in "Fishbourne" has the remains of a Roman Palace, I helped uncover when I was young. I hope this link works as it shows the mosaics to be found at Fishbourne - //www.google.co.uk/search?q=fishbourne+roman+palace+mosaics&espv=2&biw=1536&bih=736&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwji5vXS7fHRAhWLfxoKHXbhAlQQsAQIMg - as you can see there are mythical creatures - half horse/half fish. Most of the Roman remains in and around Chichester are impressive, but not particularly ornate. Chichester cathedral is another matter, guarded by ferocious looking gargoyles, that always spark my curiosity as I find it strange that they are present on so many religious buildings. I find it hard to believe that Chichester and many other UK cathedrals are older than Angkor Wat.

Hello Tim, seems I've confused guardian lions with hellhounds. Here a pic of gate in Regensburg (very eroded): de.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Jakob_(Regensburg)#/media/File:Schottenportal_RB.jpg Church built 8th century doesn't belong to older gate as well as three glorioles above doors. There are mystic creatures on gate you see later at gothic cathedrals. Origin of gate isn't Christian.

That's a magnificent church entrance.
