With 43 professional years at sea with 24 as master all ships including sailing around cape horn in a 35 ft sailing yacht I can say that the sea is the only constant in a changing world

The sea is tough. Watching these videos is frustrating, and witnessing the huge amount of power that Mother nature has on us all is a sign that, even when we believe we are well prepared, then a storm shows suddendly to test our psychological & physical limits. I wish calm seas to everyone here, and that you can find happiness by being able to tell this story. Good luck & stay safe

As a sailor I do not understand why the skippers lifted off the anchorage when the storm came. In stormy seas you need to get away from land as soon as possible despite you are in a harbour.

Anybody know background of situation? Why so many boats anchored in unsafe place? Was it common mistake or wind forecast changed or what?

Terrifying. Never underestimate the power of a storm, especially when you are on the water. Be safe. Always check the weather. Don't get caught on a rocky weather shore. These people were very lucky to escape with their lives.

Why did they stay at anchor, they should have sailed out.

These are charter boats captained by weekend warriors. They didn't even bothered to check the weather, much less sail out to battle the storm at sea.

anchor is not a good idea at this storm. Better to lift anchor, start the engine and go away from breaking waves into the open sea

Classic anchor drags on a Lee shore. I can almost promise that the primary anchor was undersized & no backup rode/anchor was at the ready or even on the boat. What a waste.

No storm sails deployed, the genoa isn’t furled at all - don’t anchor on a Lee shore where the winds are blowing the vessel to the land, get some training or make it a law to have adequate training- the ICC qualification is absolutely pathetic and is invented by useless European bureaucrats- The incompetent ICC qualification lures crew into thinking their Captain is trained, the Mediterranean is awash with captains completely untrained with no experience, out of their depth and a danger to everyone else especially their friends on board the yacht they are pretending too them with a dangerous deception!

@_vientodelnorte_
@_vientodelnorte_ 10 дней назад
