The tempura batter is too thick, the batter is not the main ingredient in tempura. Tempura dough is made by steaming the ingredients to make them crispy and tender.

i am from the UK , what type of flour did you use? can you post the recipe in english? - is cake flour the same as PLAIN flour or SELF RAISING flour? - is All purpose flour the same as PLAIN flour or SELF RAISING flour?
Cake flour tend to be a finer grind of flour,self raising has baking soda or powder already in it,so no,theyre not the same as plain flour.All purpose flour is plain flour however.
I have seen many recipes for tempura batter. None have salt or pepper. The Japanese like to let the flavors of the food come through. Also sauces used for dipping add flavor. Sot sauce is salty by itself, so no need to add salt if using soy sauce.
I dont like japanese food so much, too salty for me lol but i absolutely love watching how Japanese chefs prepare and cook their food. Their attention to detail is world class level.
