Styx's Mr. Roboto was one of the first 45's I ever bought when it came out, I still have it all these years later but never got around to listening to a full album by them that I can recall. Never really checked out Jimmy Buffett either other than the radio hits. Great list of classics, cheers!
@RandyforRoyals
@RandyforRoyals Год назад
The album with "Mr. Roboto" was about the time I stopped buying their albums as I had started getting into other music artists. Styx albums always sounded great and were slickly produced for which they caught a lot of flack. Well it was the slickly produced and overly commercial aspects of their recordings that the critics did not like and I started to see some of that later in life but they still have a nostalgic feel for me. Jimmy Buffett's early albums had a lot of deep cuts that I really liked. Take care.

You make really good points there Randy, especially getting greatest hits when you’re younger because you can’t afford lots, that resonated with me. The River tour was my first Bruce show as well. Fantastic, still up there best ever gigs, and Drive All Night was one of my favourites as well, I just replayed it over and over, beautiful. Great choices Randy especially Elvis, Tom Petty, The Who. I thought Astral Weeks would appear until you said early on that top 25 favs won’t appear. Stand out there the wonderful …..The River! Great picks Randy. Mike

I remember being so jazzed after seeing Springsteen in concert that the album was on the turntable constantly. The first albums I ever had by Bob Dylan, The Guess Who, Steppenwolf, John Prine and others were greatest hits affairs. I do love Astral Weeks and No Guru, No Method, No Teachers does kind of remind me of that record. Elvis had to catch up with a lot of albums I bought earlier in my life and I think he did. Thanks Mike.

Very entertaining and nice summaries of each album! Your ears are set to "ear candy" and good for you, not everyone can find that setting! Haha! Like that you mentioned Jimmy Buffet, and I have not heard about that particular album, but have been on the hunt for early Jimmy stuff - he's much much more than some, fun, margarita drinking beach hippie! That Costello album is pretty much flawless, as is The River, Damn The Torpedos and REM IRS material! Have yet to get into Randy Newman or Tom Waits, although I know full well that both are lyrical geniuses. Astral Weeks takes me to a place like few other albums ever do, Van the Man is extraordinary, such beautiful, soulful, heartfelt sentiments coming from such a crank! Styx - Grand Illusion still sounds good to this day, always loved Styx's harmonies and the variations in song style. Thanks for a great watch!
@RandyforRoyals
@RandyforRoyals Год назад
Thanks for watching and commenting. A1A is my favorite Buffet album but a lot of his early albums have a lot of good songs like Living & Dying in 3/4 Time, Changes In Latitudes and Havana Daydreaming. My favorite REM album is probably Document, their first album after leaving IRS but all of their IRS albums were great. Costello's first three albums were amazing and all three were played a lot. The voices of Randy Newman and Tom Waits are not for everyone but I'm one who likes a little character in one's vocals. Van Morrison has been my favorite artist for some time but I probably wouldn't want to hang out with him. Astral Weeks is probably my most played album but I was saving some of my top albums for another video series that I am contemplating. Styx gives me strong nostalgia feelings as they were a favorite of my youth. Cheers.

Hi Randy - thoroughly enjoyed your contribution to this fascinating thread. Who by Numbers is one of my favourites but as you say it is very underrated- Blue, Red and Grey is up there with Pinball Wizzard, My Generation and Behind Blues Eyes. Love a bit of Tom Petty, Tom Waits and Van Morrison. Cheers Bill

Thanks for watching Bill. I had to include a Who album in there and I know that I played The Who By Numbers a lot and still do. I think part of the fascination is that has so many great songs that got very little radio play. Van Morrison is my favorite artist while The Who is my favorite band. I have all of Tom Waits and Tom Petty's studio albums as well. Take care.

It would be nice to pursue the life that Jimmy Buffet sings about but it seems that he is always touring, so I wonder how much time he gets to relax. Greatest hits packages gave you the most bang for your buck when you were younger.

I've been wanting to do a response to this thread, but other things keep coming up. I'm way behind on doing threads and contests. Your 10 most listened to albums are some that I am also very attached to, and at one time or another, in the top 10 of my most listened to albums. Of course, the list varies all of the time. The one that hasn't been on my own list is the Tom Waits album because I am a bit of a late comer to his music, which now I absolutely love and am attempting to get everything I can from him, which is very tough. Styx The Grand Illusion shouldn't be a surprise for anyone as it's one of my all-time favorite albums, but was their biggest high point. Everything they did before was great, but was in preparation to that album, and everything they did after were attempts to top that, but seemed to have missed the mark set by that album. Anyway, great response, I love your list!
@RandyforRoyals
@RandyforRoyals Год назад
Thanks Mike. I know that they are going to be reissuing some of the titles when Waits was on Island Records. I didn't use any of my top 25 records as I planned for them to be part of an upcoming video series, probably after my upcoming vacation. I didn't remember about your love for The Grand Illusion album. Styx were huge for me early on and have a great nostalgic place in my music listening. I will be interested to hear your picks for this thread. I want to do the thread you did for Metal Marty Mac as I am a big film buff. It's also a new channel to me. Cheers.

I would think your favorite albums are the ones you listen to the most too. It would be a hard video for me, as I'd really have to think about what those might be. Plus stuff I used to listen to a lot back when I was younger, like Zepplin or Zappa, I don't listen to a lot now--taste changes or I like to hear something new. That Jimmy Buffett albums is pretty good, moreso than many might think. Morrison has some many good lps.

Hi 👋 I'm in my sixties in age , and own a large 🎶 music collection. I liked REM and had their debut album Murmur back in 1983 on vinyl. The song Radio Free Europe was popular at the time , which is on the album. Tom Petty was a good musician , i liked his first single in 1976 American Girl. Bruce Springsteens album Born to Run from 1975 is a good record. I love Tom Waits music , he's an individual . Blue Valentine is a favorite album of his to listen to. I had that Elvis Costello album in 1978 , i like the song from it titled Pump it Up. I remember Styx , and their song Babe in 1979. Good choices Randy. 👌

Styx was my favorite band at one time, eventually replaced by The Who. Thanks for watching and commenting.
