Glad to see you enjoyed SiGNALiS . happy that it is getting the attention it deserves. personally ER and Signalis is my top 2 games this year and SiGNALiS is my fav game of the year, and this is coming from a huge huge From Software fanboi , Signalis scratched such a specific itch that i fell in love immediately, i am not into ps1 era survival horror game , i can absolutely appreciate old school SH and RE games but they are not just for me, so had been looking for something like signalis for years. Signalis almost perfected the gameplay loop of oldschool classic SH genre, i hope more people find it and this eventually brings back Oldschool SH games and make them more prevalent at the indie scene.

While I love cyberpunk settings and aesthetics, a key reason that Citizen Sleeper was so mesmerizing for me was that it is very different in tone from usual cyberpunk. Cyberpunk tends to be pretty cold, bleak and often nihilistic in tone. Citizen Sleeper presents a bleak, cold world, but it is deeply human and gentle in tone, which was a big factor for me. It's kind and understanding and compassionate, and the stories and the multiple endings deeply affected me because of it.

As someone who played and enjoyed Signalis I am ecstatic it made #1! I think it really deserves that spot, Signalis is a beautifully made game, nearly perfect in every aspect, and the endings as well as the music made me cry for weeks after playing, it was so hard to get over and it was such a good experience

So happy to see Signalis on your list. As a scaredy cat myself i rarely play real horror games, but i do enjoy games that teeter on that edge of being spooky enough without scaring the life out of me. (Think Bioshock and Prey) And while Signalis has it's tense moments, i liked how it focused on creating a tense atmosphere instead of relying on jumpscares the the like, so i could really drink in the bautiful visuals, both in the gameplay as well as the fantastic cutscenes. On top of all that, i cannot even say when a game last has had me think so much about it's story, characters and what it all meant. But it's the perfect kind of cryptic, where it has enough breadcrumbs to piece everything together either yourself or through some discussion with other players. Sadly, i haven't really seen the game mentioned much since it's release, so i'm always happy to see someone that also enjoyed it this much :)

I will likely never play these, but your descriptions and perspective make the clips from each game interesting. For me, this year has been about learning to run a roleplaying game as GM, and finding it’s a lot of fun. Players are unpredictable, so there’s often a need to improvise, and having storytelling game ideas just come together emergently is a pretty amazing feeling. Maybe we’ll eventually hear you on _Once Upon a Roll_ again? Bullywugs are ever hopfull.

I'm a bit intimidated by Signalis I'm sorta scared whether or not the deeper themes would fly over my head or not or will the survival horror mechanics be on the more hardcore side of the genre but it's a classic RE/SH styled game in space so I can't not try it lol, hopefully sometime soon Great list And Keep up the awesome work!

Was keen to hear your opinion of STRAY. I am in no way a "Cat person", we don't own pets, these days I play very few modern games and when I do complete them is very rare or even having the motivation to bother even more rare. All this said I LOVED STRAY, it clicked with me on every level from being very intuitive to play, to the mechanics, the immersive world and environments were just so cool. With just enough surprises to keep me drawn in. I wanted to experience this world in every possible way. In my younger days I loved just walking and exploring, and this game really brought back those feelings of discovery, especially being a creature that could reach area's that would be much more difficult as a human. It was very satisfying, so much so after completing I returned and played through again and while am not a completionist by any stretch I did discover new areas and discovered more items my second time through.

I'm so happy I chanced upon your channel they're so well made and beautifully scripted! I can't wait to see what more amazing content you're going to produce next year:) For me this year I have finally been able to get hold of the ever elusive original Demons' Souls and a PS3 to finally play it on. As someone who loves the original Dark Souls but is somewhat put off by the later instalments, except bloodborne, playing Demons' Souls for the first time feels like I'm reliving those memories of playing Dark Souls 1 all those years ago. It's so difficult to put into words the way a game can you make feel: nostalgic, happy, sad, comforting, immersing but these words never truly convey the pure feeling of playing 'your' game, the one that no matter how many times you play it never fails to get the emotions running or giving you butterflies in your stomach. I hope everyone has a great New Year and gets to experience whole new chapters of their lives!

I haven't played Sifu yet, but it's coming out on Steam sometime soon, so I'm looking forward to that. Tinykin looks like a platformer up my alley since I'm a sucker for games calling back to the 6th generation console era. Metal Hellsinger is very DOOM-inspired with both gameplay and soundtrack. I was in for a ride of my life with it. I knew from watching your video on Scorn and looking at the marketing that it would be more of a morbid, explorative puzzle game. Those expecting more from the combat seem to miss that you can just let creatures finish their scripted path and they'll leave you alone, which can be a bit tedious, but worth saving ammo. The way I can describe this experience is that you're not only playing a game, but you're also having a nightmare. The art direction really sells it. Stray is so adorable and wholesome. I knew it would be an indie game to jump into the mainstream. I'm still trying to get a stray cat to come live with me. 😭 Citizen Sleeper, Immortality, and Grow my Grandpa look interesting to check out. I'm not the biggest fan of point and click games, but their presentation and storytelling makes me think otherwise that there is a lot more to them. I love a great challenge in exploring Elden Ring's world, which is a given from any Soulsbourne game and Signalis is brilliant in art style and gameplay. It feels like a return to form for classic survival horror. I'm glad to see all the praise it's been receiving. Good list! Looking forward to seeing more videos! 😊

Thank you, thank you sooooo much for recommending Signalis in your video. Otherwise, I would definitely miss this masterpiece that has now become my GOTY 2022, hell, even among my favorite games of all time. As a long time Fromsoft fan, Elden Ring *was* my GOTY 2022. After finishing it, I couldn't find any game that looks interesting enough that I want to play it. Then, I checked this video of yours, and you put Signalis ahead of Elden Ring. I was like "hmmm, that' interesting, maybe I should check it out, with low expectations". Now 3AM, I got my first ending "memory". My gameplay time is 14 hours and I did it in two days.... what a gorgeous piece of art it is. The overall art direction is...I don't know how to properly praise it with my poor English writing skills. Just an example, I was shocked by how beautiful the UI design is, and that was the moment I decided "I have to finish this game". The puzzles...nowadays most puzzles in video games are boring fillers that require no brain (and all those NPCs just can't wait to give away the answers), and sometimes the puzzle mechanics are so ugly and out of place that they break my immersion (yeah, GoW I am looking at you). In Signalis, the puzzles are so smart, so elegant, and some of them are quiet challenging. After solving them, the sense of achievement I got and the appreciation for their designs I felt, are almost like dueling a well-crafted boss in souls game. The story...this two-people team somehow manages to craft a story that is coherent, convincing, and heart-wrenching at both the macro society level and the micro personal level, and also get it integrated into the gameplay. Annnnnd the OST, Schubert Serenade + silent hill style horrific metallic noises, *chef's kiss*. Sorry for this long essay, I just have to release my excitement somewhere. At the end, it just strikes that the expressiveness of the human mental world is literally unlimited. I gotta read some of those existentialism philosophy books I bought long time ago lol
