Gurl, I LOVE your point about ppl not looking at you like “Negro, do you belong here?” That made me laugh... I’m Mexican-American, from L.A., and I too am moving to Mexico City this summer (I also lived there for 6 mos in 2018). I feel EXACTLY the same way you do. Only, I’m like, “WTF am I doing in a country that constantly makes you feel like an outsider or like you just swam across the Rio Grande, when my people have an amazing country where my DNA originates and I can live there at 50% of the cost while living in a truly global city?!” . There’s ZERO reason to live in a toxic country like the U.S. if you achieve financial freedom, as I have. Mexico in general is open, accepting, friendly, the vibe is calm/peaceful/zen, people like to have a good time, the country is full of art & culture, and the food is GOOD and natural... I can go on. You’re def ahead of the game. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience! ❤️

mm to tell u the truth there is a lot of racism in Mexico too.. I too am Chicano. and people call me "gringo" and ask me for money.. the ones that do that I dont hang out with them.. I only met 2! dudes who werent like that... They think cause I come from the US I always have money to give away... When I am in los "combis" people look at me as soon as I say my stop cause they hear my accent. which isnt a bad thing unless ur in a bad neighborhood where they would wanna rob you... PS.. I never experienced racism in the USA... people always said I look Italian.. but its funny cause my black friends would call me "Chino" LOL one even called me "Bruce Leroy" XD but in Mexico I rly dont like it when they call me gringo and stuff...

American society is so backwards. Minorities fully experience this REALITY, while those of the majority are still able to benefit, point fingers and say, "you have problems". Truly truly, there will come a time in America where those sitting on a high horse looking down at the drowning will realize they're also in 6ft of water rising.

Hi, I’m Canadian and in 2015, at 57 and after working/living in CA for almost 20 years and back surgery, I told my husband we should “activate” our years-long goal of retiring abroad and our 1st choice was Mexico but we took a 5 year detour to Europe ( because the Euro-USD was good ). We finally made it to Mexico City in March ‘21 and spent about 10 weeks there. We absolutely loved it. Everything you said, I was nodding. I’m quite shocked that Mexico City isn’t more popular with foreigners. We also never, not once, felt remotely unsafe. Having arrived from sea level, we did need to adapt to the altitude a bit but that’s it. Not only is the food amazing, but so are people in Mexico City. I can only speak about people I’ve interacted with of course but they have an open warmth that feels genuine. I’ve never felt condescended to. We don’t have a vehicle so we mostly walked everywhere. Btw, Uber is very inexpensive and so easy to use and efficient. We are traveling around looking for a place to settle, before applying for residency but frankly I think CDMX remains my first choice. About learning Spanish, yes it is much easier when you are surrounded by spanish speakers. If you’re a beginner, do take a class to get some basics and then also watch TV/movies in Spanish with subtitles. Take your time and it will sink in. Once you’ve got enough vocabulary to at least understand what is being said, switch to Spanish subtitles. It really helps to solidify your understanding. If you’re wobbly, just go back and forth between English and Spanish subtitles. Take notes on specific little phrases or expressions that are actually used. Ok enough 🥴. Anyways, I think Mexico gets such a bad rap and I’m pretty sure it’s mostly from people who have never been to Mexico. About crime, do I have to mention the mass-shootings in the U.S. ? Don’t be afraid to come, using common sense and discover this beautiful City. I know I’m going back soon and will likely settle there. Thanks for the great list.

As a black man, I'm ALWAYS mindful of the extra stress there is just living in the US. For example, this morning, I went to the bagel store and picked up breakfast sandwiches. The woman took my order, I paid, no issues. What could go wrong? So my meal is finally ready and I say, "Yep, that's me", but the kid (he didn't take my order) is looking at me with suspicion. HE DIDN'T DO THAT WITH ANYONE ELSE! I say to him, slightly annoyed, "if you think I didn't pay for it, just ask her; she took my order". Another young lady came over and quickly said, "OH NO, HE'S GOOD!". My mistake was not asking for a receipt. Next time I will, even though I don't like the chemicals in receipts, so if I don't need one (apparently, in this case I did!), I don't take them. Or if I'm on a business trip, I take a picture of it, then throw it away. Did I ever tell you the time security came up to me, asking me what I was doing in the building...THAT I WORKED AT, FOR OVER 3 YEARS? Yeah, all of us melanined people have stories like this!

Healthcare in the US can bankrupt most of us, *especially* with this pandemic. How many people thought they had good, solid jobs, only to find out, a. you no longer have a job and b. you don't have healthcare either? God help you if: * you have a premie child, that needs to spend an extra month in the hospital * you all of a sudden need bypass surgery * you need a kidney transplant right at the same time that you lost your job. It can bankrupt you very quickly, which is one of the reasons why I want to retire abroad. My wife and I are blessed and we make very good money, but again, in the US, you're one bad medical procedure and no health insurance away from being on the streets.

I realized by staying home for 2 months that microaggressions at work and in commerce had me in a constant state of fight or flight...the stress relief, if you can believe it, that occurred for me from March - May 2020 until we made a re-entry plan for dentists was actually healing for me. I was at home cooking daily, being loved on by my family and not spending money on my commute to interact with people who may treat me poorly.

Love this video about Mexico City. I just want to clarify winter is COLD there. I was there in late November/ early December for 2 weeks and the lows were 30s and highs were 50s degrees. I was freezing the entire time because the hotels didn't have heat. I was not prepared for this level of cold being used to the Caribbean side and Cabo. Totally different because of the high elevation.

You were probably unlucky, it’s not usual to the highs being in the 50’s. Most of the winter highs are in the 60’s-70’s. And lows are mostly in the 40’s except for a few day in winter. Yeah, inside buildings and homes it’s a lot colder that you’re used to, since there is no central heating. You need to wear a sweatshirt and pants on your home in the winter.

@@cylon5741 Look friend, I am not dedicated to making videos, I watch videos ok. Now you want to know why I and many other people think that New York has nothing to do with CDMX, the answer is simple. 1. It is the largest and oldest city in the entire American continent. 2. For the same reason in CDMX you can find pre-Hispanic, colonial and modern architecture. 3. Because in it you will find the one that was declared the best urban park in the whole world. 4. Because it is the city with the most museums in the world. 5. Because it has the largest market in the world (central de abastos) 6. Because it also has the second largest fish and seafood market in the world. 7. Because its subway is so much better than the one in New York and so much cheaper. 8. Because it is the zócalo which is the second largest square in the world. 9. Because despite being a city monster, it is impressively green, it is full of parks and wherever you look you will always see trees. And 10. Because it is full of Mexicans who are proud and love our beautiful CDMX, the capital of all Mexicans. For this and many more reasons I and many more who are not Mexican, we consider CDMX better than New York. I spent over a week in Merida and found it remarkable that there were so many police, yet I found them to be friendly when we made eye contact. They even initiated a 'hello' to me, which I've never experienced in the US. Oh, and while I appreciate the extraordinary tension between the black community and police in the USA, I also fear the police here, and have had difficult interactions with them with no prompting. Not always, but there have been some occasions ...

There are many police who are part of the old corrupt regime in Mexico !! They lost the 2018 elections, the president decreed the cleaning of the police but there are still corrupt governors who have corrupt police, little by little they are making the change, for example the "Federal Police" disappeared and another "National Guard" police were created. the corrupt governors of the PRI, PAN, PRD still control the media.

I’ve been watching through many of your videos + subscribed 😊. Great content! I love your calm and soft voice, but a microphone would work wonders. It can be difficult to hear you without cranking the volume. Anyway, your content is super helpful as I’m making plans to leave the States long term by next Spring.

I do admire very much how you are living your life. I watched your video “How I retired at 39” which clearly confirmed my economic and investments philosophy; cutting in debts or avoiding them altogether, living within your means, and adopting an investment and saving culture. I could comfortably relate with your economic models that can give one an early retirement, and with money to spend the rest of ones life. Again, I’ve watched this video of “Moving to Mexico” which has also cemented what I’ve been holding true, retiring or living outside the USA. Being an immigrant who has lived in the US for over a decade, I can clearly relate to the issues you’ve mentioned; low cost of living, weather, food, race profiling, and freedom. This is encouraging as I’m on the tail-end plan of exiting US after making enough Benjamins to go and retire in my home country. Things I was taking for granted, came to matter after spending my early years in the US. I’m looking forward to hear of your experience in an African country, and I recommend Kenya….👍😀😀😀

Keep up the great work! And is it ok if I follow? I’m looking to moved to Mexico and get my professional textured hair products in some of the stores.

I lived in Mexico City for about 6 months, more than 10 years ago. I also lived in and traveled through other parts of Mexico, and through central and South America. Personally, I would not live in the city again, as it's just too big for my taste, and too hard to get out of to the countryside. Having said that, it's a great city, with a lot going for it

I love this!! Thanks for discussing this. Cost of living is a big thing for me. I am planning to go there in May and looking forward to seeing all the museums, etc. How did you adapt to the altitude, which is about 7000 ft in elevation? Especially coming from FL, sea level. Was it an issue or overly difficult?
@Roshida
@Roshida 2 года назад
The elevation only bothered me in the elevator in my building (30+ stories). And that stopped after about 6 months.
