In this video I share ten tactical tips for the everyday police officer that will make you more efficient, improve your life, and help you have a better shift. Here’s what we’ll cover:
0:00 - Intro
0:48 - Bulletproof Coffee
A quick and easy morning brew that will give you sustained energy and keep you from getting hungry. It’s perfect for the early morning SWAT operation, workout, run, or hike.
Ingredients:
- 1 Tbsp unsalted grass-fed butter
- 1 Tbsp coconut oil
- 16-20 oz. of coffee
Put it all in a blender and let ‘er rip!
2:33 - Tactical (Overnight) Oats
Here’s another option for making your mornings easier. Tactical oats have become a staple of mine and I share my recipe with you and show you how to make it.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of oats (use quick cooking oats if you are short on time)
- 2 Tbsp of chia seeds
- 1 to 2 Tbsp of natural peanut butter
- 1 cup of milk (almond milk works great too)
- Maple syrup to taste
Put it all in a mason jar, shake it up, and leave it in the fridge overnight. If you dodn’t make it the night before, keep in mind that both chia seeds and quick cooking oats take about 15 minutes to soften.
4:11 - How To Tie Your Shoes Like A Tactical Athlete
So you think you know how to tie your shoes? Think again! Maybe you’re sick of your shoes constantly coming untied or having unsightly, gigantic double knots that look wicked dumb, especially with dress shoes. I’ll show you how to tie a knot that is not big and bulky, will stay tied all day long, and is easy to untie.
5:49 - Tactical Badge Lanyard
If you’ve ever had your neck or chest hairs pulled by the chain that comes with your neck-badge, you know how shocking and painful that can be. I’ll show you a simple trick to stop that from happening. Your neck hairs will thank you!
9:15 - Tactical Breathing
We all get adrenaline dumps before we go operational, it’s totally normal. With that adrenaline comes an elevated heart rate and elevated breathing. To help calm yourself down and slow your heart rate you should try tactical breathing, also known as combat breathing. I walk you through the process and give you the tools you need to use it on the fly. You don’t need a yoga studio or a waterfall to reap the benefits.
10:53 - Keeper Savers
Having stubborn snaps on your keepers or pouches that you can’t open or close is really frustrating, and in some cases, even dangerous. I’ll show you how to get those snaps to finally behave themselves with this simple hack.
12:23 - Say Goodbye To Droopy Brass
Nothing says ‘soup sandwich’ like droopy, crooked brass on your uniform. Look sharper and make uniform transitions easier with this cheap and easy DIY solution.
15:25 - A Tactical Way To Carry Your Knife
You have less than a 1% chance of using your knife as a weapon instead of a tool while on duty. Plus, I can almost guarantee that when you were trained in weapon retention, it was only to protect your pistol and not a secondary weapon like a knife. For those reasons I show you how to carry your knife out of sight and out of mind so the only person who gets their hands on it is you, not a bad guy.
17:45 - How To Stage A Tourniquet & How To Carry A Tourniquet
Tourniquets have become the norm nowadays and every officer should carry one. Maybe you’ve been trained in Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) but you weren’t shown how to properly stage your tourniquet or how to carry one while in uniform. I will show you one method for staging your tourniquet so it doesn’t bind up and so that it’s easy to deploy. I will also give you some carrying options to increase the likelihood that you’ll have one with you at all times.
23:56 - Ten Things You Need In Your Kit
There’s a million things we could carry in our kit, on our vest, or in our go-bag or cruiser bag. I’ll share with you ten things I think are non-negotiable that will get you through the unexpected call for service or an extended SWAT operation. They don’t take up much space but will have a big impact on your readiness and effectiveness.
26:39 - BONUS TIP!
Stick around for the bonus tip to level-up your tactical game!
27:27 - BLOOPERS!
As if you didn’t have enough ammunition already to make fun of me, make sure you stay for the blooper reel at the end for a good laugh at my expense.

Johnny Tactical it is very similar to how I kept my CATs folded before but your way with the ‘handle’ tab folded on the inside to make it truly one handed is great, I modified how I keep mine staged today when I got to work 👍

The most important things to make policing better from with in & safer would be 1 policy change & 1 change to the penal code- End narcotics prohibition & Discontinue militarized police culture. Without the contraband narcotics most street crime disappears. Gangs don't fight over dealing turf & don't make enough money to maintain cohesion and a lot of burglary/shoplifting is done to cover the high cost of narcotics. Cops in the u.s. perform their voluntary civil service career like they are part of a hostile military occupation force, they have no concern or interest in being civil or providing any service.

@johnny_tactical Man these aren't my ideas, I got the information about ending narcotics prohibition from Law Enforcement Against Prohibition but that is not what they are called now but we already ran a prohibition trial in this country and it caused exactly the same problem last time: gang violence & huge profits being earned by criminal enterprises. The fact that we are pursuing it again for so long with the same results is people in power are involved with those enterprises, it's certainly a useful tool for waging war on poor people. Also the dangers of a civil police force that regards the population as the enemy should be readily apparent and the numbers of citizens u.s. cops kill while they are unarmed and not committing is appalling, no other developed nation comes close..... I saw a video of 2 cops pull up on a playground cause some asshole racist called about a couple of black kids playing and said they had guns, no one else there or in danger but they didn't cordon the area or even have their siren on, they pulled right onto the playground and were out firing before the car stopped moving and the killed an 8 & a 9 year old who did not have any guns. There is also the issue of rampant abuse of civil forfeiture which yearly takes more property from citizens than all criminal theft, I read about a case where they tried to seize a house because some kids sold an undercover officer a $20 bag of weed from his parents front porch! The culture amongst u.s. police is like an occupying military force, it's wildly racist, highly corrupt &, recklessly violent (like them no knock warrants that keep getting people killed at the wrong houses). My dad was a C.O. at San Quentin and I understand it's real people doing a job but that is no excuse for doing a job badly.

@@robdeskrd Robert, as you may know, law enforcement is under the executive branch of government meaning we enforce the laws, we don’t make them. The legislative branch makes the laws, the executive branch enforces the laws, and the judicial branch interprets the laws. If you disagree with a law then you are in disagreement with your legislature. It is our duty to enforce the laws that are on the books. As an aside, narcotics wreak havoc on families, on children, and on other loved ones and should 100% be illegal. If you don’t know a family who has gone through a battle with addiction and the toll that it takes, then I would strongly encourage you to get to know someone like that and you will see why drugs are so terrible. We can have a conversation on how to deal with enforcing that, but to me that’s a non-negotiable, and again, the fact that drugs are illegal starts with the legislature. According to the Washington Post’s database which “contains records of every person shot by an on-duty police officer since Jan. 1, 2015” shows that a total of 6% of people shot by police were unarmed. That means that 94% of people shot by police were, in fact, armed. And as a reminder, just because someone was unarmed does not mean that the use of force was not justified. Here’s the website so you can read the data for yourself: www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/investigations/police-shootings-database/ I think the playground shooting you referenced was about Tamir Rice. The police were sent there after a call came in of a kid with a gun. Tamir did in fact have a gun that was later determined to be a realistic looking airsoft gun which would be impossible for the officers to know at the time. The shooting was deemed justified. No officer wants to shoot anyone, especially a child. The public has the luxury of 20/20 hindsight which responding officers do not. It was a tragic event for everyone involved. Here are some articles and a link to a video about that shooting: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killing_of_Tamir_Rice www.theguardian.com/us-news/video/2014/nov/26/cleveland-video-tamir-rice-shooting-police www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-closing-investigation-2014-officer-involved-shooting-cleveland You also mention the abuse of civil forfeiture - again a function of the legislature that allows the government to seize assets. In 20 years as a police officer while serving in various roles I’ve never heard of an asset forfeiture occurring over a $20 bag of anything, nevermind weed. Since you used the phrase “tried to seize” I’m assuming that seizure didn’t happen. I’d love for you to share the facts of that case and where it originated. Alleging that police culture is that of an occupying military force, that it’s wildly racist, highly corrupt, and recklessly violent is a bold statement to make without any facts to substantiate those claims. American law enforcement is not perfect, but it is the most fair, least corrupt, and best trained in the world. Sure, there is always room for improvement, which is exactly what I am trying to do here. Don’t paint an entire group with a broad brush because of the acts of a few. You don’t like to be profiled or stereotyped and neither do we. Again, thanks for your comments, I am always open to having a conversation. Take care, Robert.
