The first in a series of videos on TERRIBLE SONGS from good albums. THIS VIDEO HAS FIVE ONLY. THERE ARE MORE TO COME! I HATE these ear worms. Probably.
1:20 - Where CDs beat vinyl, the ability to skip songs easily. I don't skip songs I hate on vinyl, I'd rather lower the volume and protect the disk by playing beginning to end, rather than move the needle around. 1:40 - The "Twisting" EP was the last good thing they ever did. Out of nowhere: If you don't know the song, look up "Love Over And Over" by Kate and Anna McGarrigle (1982), a big hit at home in Canada. Knopfler plays on it.
Hi Dave, Walk Of Life is probably the worst abomination ever recorded. Reminds me of a pensioners disco at the seaside. Excluding you and I (as pensioners ahem). I have a few from some of my favourite bands - but I won’t shout them out….just yet. Don’t want to spoil the fun. I will take a guess at your second Genesis entry though. Begins with a ‘W’. All the best - and thanks for the earworms 😊
Hi David! You knocked it out of the park with this list. In agreement on all 5 here! I will need to give this some thought and come up with something. I will look forward to your parts 2 and hopefully 3 on this subject!
@@davidatkinson-lifematters4826 I already have a couple of terrible tunes zooming around in my head, so this will definitely be fun and overloaded with sarcasm from me!
I was a kid when The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite was released as a single and I loved it at the time, having been brought up on REM by my dad. Ok it’s not one of their best, but it’s still a decent pop tune. However, Everybody Hurts on the other hand, the next song on the album, I have always viscerally hated. It could be to do with how overplayed it has always been, but at no point in my life have I EVER liked it. I get that it’s a song that means a lot to a lot of people who have connected with it on an emotional level due to personal circumstances, and fair enough, but I have always found it whiny, self-indulgent and dull.
Ha ha! I really like 'Everybody Hurts'. Taste, eh? I'd say 80% of my disdain for 'Sidewinder' comes from 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' single from another band!
I agree with Walk of Life, but Twisting by the Pool might be a worse Dire Straits track, maybe? Damn, I have Waterloo stuck in my head! (and I dislike ABBA to begin with). There are three Queen tracks that I hate, and the one you mentioned is one of them. I Can't Dance is simply gross!
I refuse to buy brothers in arms on vinyl, simply due to the walk of life, hated the video for it also. 3 off the top of my head are, hats off to Roy Harper from Zeppelin 3, live version of wake up little suzy from Bridge over troubled water, and let's spend the night together from aladdin sane. When you look at Bowies output from that area, why did he have to include that ?
'Tina Toledo's street walkin' blues' is the only song i skip on 'Gold' the otherwise classic Ryan Adams album from 2001. Irritating Rolling Stones pastiche.
I agree with your choosing a Dire Straits song, but I think you picked the wrong album and wrong song. The one I always skip is Les Boys from Making Movies, a real stinker from an otherwise excellent record. Fortunately it's the last song and easy to avoid.
Hard video to do lol 😝. Need to ask you something. Is that Rolling Stones Some Girls tour double album any good. Is worth buying. I’ve seen it around. Thx
Cheers. That Stones album is just what you'd expect. Decent, but not earth-shattering. At least the setlist is much more interesting than most of the other live albums they've put out. Worth checking out on CD or Spotify, if you're wavering.
