In an era where we all have thousands of photo stills on our phones and hard drives that we rarely or no longer access, I thought it would be more fun and interesting to create and post (perhaps for all time) short video clips to view and view again in the years to come.
There's no particular theme here - just a pretty random selection of clips of cycling, hiking, and visited places, but also time spent with family and friends and the occasional rant or reflection on issues that matter to me (and probably to others too). Sometimes funny, sometimes more serious. You can consider it something like a video journal.
What I've grown to love doing is creating MUSIC APPRECIATION videos, where I'll select an album and reminisce about how I discovered it, and what it has come to mean to me, all in the service of inspiring others to seek it out. I'll also do the occasional rundown of favourite albums by artists I've invested a serious amount of time in appreciating their work.

It amazes me that in this day and age people still allow the government and mainstream media to tell them what they should think. The Democrats entire campaign is hating Trump, lying about Trump "russia collusion" "Hitler" "Project 2025" that is their entire message, nothing about fixing the mess we're in, the mess that they made. Some interesting comments on the video and I would say that US voters probably don't share your view of "it's only four more years" on either side. Certainly some of Trump's pronouncements on citizens "never having to vote again" can only be described as worrying.

I miss the days when we had (1) candidates actually worthy of our respect, (2) voters who did not blindly "pick-a-side-and-stick-with-it-no-matter-what", and (3) an actual news media instead of bald-faced propaganda machines. Seems every election is yet another increasingly unwelcome process of having to choose the "lesser of two evils" until we're getting to the point where the "two evils" are converging into each other such that it doesn't hardly seem to matter which one is chosen any more. I live in Vermont, the most liberal state in the U.S., and I interact mainly with people who lean to the left. To a person, no one I have spoken to has been anything but disgusted by the assassination attempt. But your concerns about the bad actors in this country are grossly misplaced, in my opinion. To not mention Trump's attempt to circumvent the will of the American voters and include no mention of the events of January 6, 2021, and then say that you thought he would just go away if the media had not kept after him when he left office, shows a great misunderstanding of who Donald Trump is and what he has done and continues to try and do. Propped up by the fear of his party's members in the Congress, the Supreme Court, and right wing news outlets, and driven by his crazy and egotistical unwillingness to accept the results of the the 2020 election, he has kept himself in the spotlight for four years and encouraged a hostile and dangerous faction of followers who will accept nothing but his total victory in the next election, no matter what the vote count says. Your commentary seemed sympathetic, or at lease ambivalent, towards Trump and cast a shadow on those who oppose him. It seems to me that you've got it backwards.
We need a strong USA and the Dems will not deliver that, we are far more likely to end up in a major war if they get in because the totalitarian regimes of this world sense weakness. Biden allowed the Ukraine invasion through comment and deed (delaying arms shipments, making the USA dependent on imported oil and other aspects of his policies). I have become a strong supporter of the Republicans and wish they had selected an alternative to Trump. It will be interesting to see if this assassination attempt was more complex or just the failure of his protective detail to do their job. I think his team were overstretched and had become lazy, bad communication and slow response led to this attempt being almost successful. Trump is very lucky, had he not turned his head he would be dead. I for one hope the Republicans get back in and address the fundamental issues in the US government and economy, the rest of the world need a strong successful USA, not a weak socialist, big government mess. Sadly I think the divisiveness is fed by the media of all types and is here to stay because it gets the viewers and generates advertisers revenue. If there is another attempt I fear for all who opposed Trump there are just as many crazy rightwingers and there are leftwing loonies.

As somebody who lives in the US that was only casually interested in politics I must say that Trump's biggest problem is his divisiveness. His refusal to accept the outcome of the 2020 election and spreading that attitude to his followers is poison of the highest order. Never have I seen such volatile reactions just by bringing up a name (on both sides). He is,in my opinion,an absolute failure as a human being. And I say that without a whiff of liberalism,just common sense. Am I one that wishes the bullet had been a little more to the right? No,because as you said that would only divide us even further and make him even more of a martyr (than he is now). I know you said "it's only four years" but if we are to believe that he wishes to "drain it again",something he failed miserably at the first go round it will end up becoming retribution as he believes he's owed it because of him being "robbed" in the last election. Anyway,just my thoughts. I don't want to go so far as to label you naive in your views but living as me and my family are is quite different.

One of the greatest albums of all time. Reminds me of my late father. Beautiful songs, beautiful vocals. If you watch the video of them live at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester, I was the idiot who shouted out EADGBE. Met the band the next day when I was painting a shop front leaving Sacha’s hotel. I shouted out EADGBE again. The band came over and could not have been nice enough. An excellent review.

Hi David. Big fan here. The Vault by Prince was actually released in the late 90s to get out of his Warner Bros contract, and it is really not very good. Love the vault releases we have got since his death (the Super Deluxe Editions). Hope there's lots more to come. From what I hear those box sets aren't selling that well.

I was only 7 years old in 1977 so the only memories I could share is going to see 'Sinbad and the Eye of The Tiger' at my local ABC 😁....I feel I was born too late and missed an incredible decade for music.

Nothing wrong with BOC, is there? Probably the band I was most lukewarm about back in the day, but was blown away when I saw them for the second or third time in 2019 (I think). A classic rock band that still knows how to deliver the goods.

I thank ECM especially for my very long time enthusiasm for Terje Rypdal. I read Knut Hamsun's "Growth of the Soil" too, about 30 years ago, prompted by Frederick Delius having set some of Hamsun's poems to music. I've always loved how our interest in a particular artist or work of art (literature, music, art, ballet, theatre, etc.) can prompt us to explore other artists or works of art. Many years ago I used to enjoy writing articles about this type of confluence of different arts (and a couple were actually published in obscure journals, haha!) Actually, it was Delius' friendship with Hamsun that directed me to the latter....not the setting of poems, in this case. But I've discovered many other great writers via Delius' settings. Particularly the Danish author Jens Peter Jacobsen, one of my very favorites. Cheers! Jeff

I have to thank you for introducing me to a band I'd never really listened to and that is The Ohio Players, you featured their album Angel on a video of yours recently, and on a trip to a record fair shortly after I found a copy, so I bought it and wow! I love it, picked up a couple more on CD since so thank you for this David, much appreciated.

The big push is on here with government grants from both Provincial and Federal up to $12k cdn. Towards heat pump installation. Our Province (BC) electrical is 100% hydro power. Net exporter of electricity (for now) . And such program in UK as to heat pumps?. Stay cool!
Hi Pat. Heat pumps are controversial over here. Installation costs are through the roof, and the disruption involved is purported to be horrendous. My solution for my listening room is to pack every nook and cranny with insulation. Warmer in the winter, and (slightly) cooler in the summer. So far it's working. :-)
