The greatest guitarist of the entire classic rock generation that no one ever seems to talk about, and boy what a sad commentary that is because Alvin Lee was flat out gifted. He was pure fireball in his fingertips and pure ability in his approach. Alvin excelled at anything he played, be it jazz, blues, rock, or whatever. Every bit as talented as the bad ass gunslingers of the day that did get a lot of hype and media coverage, I.E., Hendrix, Clapton, Page, Beck, Winter, Santana, etc.........

Couldn't agree more. Asked about effects and pedals He said "I'm a curly lead into the amp guy". It was all about playing and he sure could.

Absolutely the best of the best. A little animation here being he was a little tipsy. But by far still the greatest shredder ever picked

@GBeret83 Exactly right. I bought Ten Years After's album "Sshh" just for the cover artwork. And I was knocked on my ass! Then I saw his "I'm Going Home" at Woodstock (this was back in 1970 while I was in the army). Watching these Winterland concerts was the first time I saw anyone use the mike stand for a "noise" source. And of course, those Marshall amps are just plain unreal. Jimi knew how to get them to cry, and Alvin did too.

Love watching Leo Lyons on double neck bass guitar. God put him here to play with Alvin Lee
@GBeret83
@GBeret83 2 года назад
@Mark Curtis, big fan of Leo Lyons also, but this isn't Leo in this video. By the time this was recorded in 1978, Alvin had already split with the original line-up of Ten Years After with Leo Lyons on bass, Ric Lee on drums and Chic Churchill on keyboards. He reformed the group calling it "Ten Years Later" with Mick Hawksworth on bass(double neck bass here) and Tom Compton on drums. Compton would also, around later become a drummer for Johnny Winter for awhile too. Around 82' or 83' if memory serves, but I'm not 100% certain of the year he got with Johnny Winter?

When Jimi was asked whats it like being the greatest Guitarist in the world he replied with ''I don't know ask Alvin Lee''. FACT

And Jimi knew it. Jimi did things different but Alvin was the best Blues/Rock guitarist. Ok maybe Johnny Winters could hang with him.
