Thanks, and yea, it's just on the other side of Sitton, and you can actually hike in from that side too, but it's pretty overgrown (or was last year at least). This way is usually pretty decent and a reasonable distance.
Did this today. Did the longs route both in and out. Been wanting to try this one for a while but the only routes I found were the short route. Long route both in and out is just under 9 miles and just under 4 hours. Great hike! The most ‘green’ hike I’ve done in CNF. Feet were killing me though on the way back going up passing Fisherman’s camp.
Just reached those falls from Highway 74 yesterday, and back to the candy store. Amazing area. Pretty lonely and wild too: I almost did not see anyone (except near the falls).
Yea that's a great approach, will make a guide for that way at some point. I never see anyone on that approach either. San Mateo is a great underrated spot.
@@Hikingguy For what it’s worth, I find the area map not to be super accurate (unless I misread it), looping back to Morgan Trail. The map shows a trail that is actually private property, and we have to loop around. You might want to check ( and correct me if I’m wrong).
I was not expecting such a cool falls and trail... I was expecting a black star cyn falls type situation. This was fantastic and totally unexpected, not just the falls but the trail to the falls. Even without water flowing over the falls i enjoyed it, can't wait for rain, this will be awesome. I didn't plan this hike i just added it after doing San Mateo peak, it was a 6 miles detour (round trip) but well worth it. I did have the place to myself for half an hour and then a couple people showed up... best to go early and beat the crowds... I got there at 10 am on Sat 10.30.21 so even on a weekend there was virtually no one there.
Nice, glad you got to enjoy the hike, it's a really beautiful one, and yea, if you get there early you can usually have the place to yourself. People start showing up for the short route to the falls later after they've charged their Bluetooth speakers...
