I love the idea of turning the spreaders into the jib crane. You probably already thought of this, but maybe add some rope to the pins so they can't fall in the water and get lost?

I used to be very good at it, when I was a kid still in high school I had a dream of being an Underwater welder but for some reason the fact that it was one of the most dangerous professions probably scared the shit out of me as a kid. But man did I love welding. Maybe now in my late 40's I can start as a Hobby and make some cool shit.

Hi Doug, re load testing, maybe consider:- boat with max No of people (volunteers), max fuel, water etc plus say 50% safety margin achieved by putting the required additional weight in as water, the volunteers will have to be willing to get their feet wet ! Any resistance use the time honoured Navy method and simply press gang the "volunteers ". Regards Doug from NZ.

I'm not looking to break the tender. We have raised it out of the water with about 700 lbs of cargo, but the prefered method of high loads it to disembark passengers and some or all cargo on to the gangway. The only real need for hauling passengers up on the davits is because it's easier to board from a solid platform. And the spreaders are only intended to raise the tender even higher so it can be placed in slings.

Doug, I am curious. Are you recharging those DeWalt batteries with a 12 volt DC charger like the DCB119 or are you going through your inverter to 120 volt then charging off the AC house chargers? I'd be curious to know how much loss the inverter method versus the DC to DC.

@KamikazeWombat
@KamikazeWombat Год назад
That's very clever. I'm sure I'm not the only person to say this, but you should figure out a way to hook the pins for the shackles to the bar so people can't drop them in the water. Could be as simple as drilling a hole through the bar then running a small cable through it. Could also weld some sort of loop, or even one of those spring clip loop thingys to the side of the bar.
@fundip2010
@fundip2010 Год назад
The best way is to drill a small hole into the pin handle exactly on the along the axis it rotates. Run a small wire with a swaged head thru this hole and then crimp the wire to the shackle body. This way the wire spins freely when turning the pin and doesn't twist or tangle.
@KamikazeWombat
@KamikazeWombat Год назад
@@fundip2010 drilling a hole through the pin longways sounds like it would be a pain in the butt to do. I hadn't considered the part of how to attack a cable to the pin and that it would have to spin though. Perhaps drill a hole through the end then and just put a cheap swivel on whatever wire attaches the pin the shackle then
@fundip2010
@fundip2010 Год назад
@@KamikazeWombat it’s very easy, Ive seen done it to hundreds of shackle pins. Keep in mind the axial hole is just on the tip of the handle and it just goes into the hole already in the handle, not all the way thru the entire pin.
@fundip2010
@fundip2010 Год назад
@@KamikazeWombat the swivels work, but are very fiddly to deal with when threading in the pin. The riggers using these everyday much preferred the drilled hole.
@KamikazeWombat
