Eurowings Airbus A320 NEO approach and smooth landing on runway 07 at Tenerife South International airport TFS / GCTS on Tenerife Island, Spain. Cockpit, Instruments (PFD and ND), pilots, charts and sidestick views. With briefing, cockpit audio and ATIS (automatic terminal information service) audio. Captain is pilot flying and first officer pilot monitoring. ATC (air traffic control) callsign is Eurowings 1NT (Eurowings ONE NOVEMBER TANGO). Produced with 5 cameras in 4k quality. Airplane Registration is D-AENB.
I am sorry about the sometimes shaking ND (navigation display) picture. Reason is that the camera stabilization did not work as expected.
If you like my videos, please subscribe to my channel: / @approachanddeparturev...
The charts presented in this video are the original charts used during the flight. Many thanks to Lufthansa Systems (Lido mPilot and Lido eRoute Manual) for the permission to show them in the video. This charts are for information purposes only and not for navigational use!
This video is for information purposes only. It does not substitute approved flight training. If you need general or type specific flight training, contact a flight school or a certified flight instructor. Due to technical reasons, the audio may be partly incomplete.
Thank you!

One of the things I really love about your videos is that you have a small debrief session with your copilot after you park. I liked your drunken ND - you'll have to keep him better behaved in future! Hello Cpt. Another beautiful video you made from the flight deck.😀 I think the new Airbus with the new cockpit design is beautiful.✈ I lived and worked on Cran Canaria for years. Unfortunately I've never been to Tenerife. First of all, unfortunately, I have never flown with Eurowings. But I really like the design and painting of Eurowings. What is certainly very nice with your flight plans is that there are very varied destinations. It is certainly very nice and instructive as First Officer with you as Cpt. to fly. 👍 I'm looking forward to the next video! With this in mind, I wish you and your crew a pleasant and enjoyable week. There seems to be a lot of Spanish on management channels. I notice this sometimes also with French airports. It seems less-than-ideal for full awareness of other activity? I guess those conversations are not critical at all. Thank you as always Capt Stefan.
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
Spanish and French are besides English also ICAO approved languages. My understanding is that it is ok that ATC uses those languages. But it is not ideal because we may not understand the conversation between ATC and the airplanes ahead of us.

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos just imagine all the fuel you’ve saved! 🏆
@oshixxxx
@oshixxxx Год назад
Have a couple of questions. The extra fuel for this flight was 18 minutes. Just an estimate, but Las Palmas is about 10 min from there. If anything goes wrong during the landing at the backup destination, how much fuel is still remaining in the aircraft? I assume that there is still fuel in the aircraft after the extra, so how many minutes of fuel is emergency fuel levels?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
This is a very good question. Our standard minimum fuel is the taxi fuel to the runway plus the trip fuel to the destination plus the fuel for a flight to the alternate airport plus fuel for 30 minutes of holding in the air (final reserve fuel) plus (depending on the routing and other factors) a certain amount of contingency fuel (usually 3 or 5 % or the trip fuel). On top of all that, the crew can decide to take extra fuel for reasons like the traffic situation, weather, ..... If we would have used the 18 minutes of extra fuel at TFS airport for a second approach or holding ... and then diverted to our alternate, we still would have landed with a minimum of 30 minutes of fuel in the tanks. As you see here, we always land with a good amount of fuel at the destination. A fuel emergency has to be declared if an airplane would land at an airport below the 30 minutes of final reserve fuel. Then this plane would get priority and whatever is needed to land as soon as possible.

@Approach and Departure Videos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
Thanks for watching and the great feedback! I try to figure out the remaining flightdistance. Then I calculate the correct altitude for a 3 degree descent and compare it with the actual altitude. We descent 300 feet per nautical mile. That means for example that at 3 nautical miles, we want to be at 900 feet. At 10 miles, 3000 feet. This is for a constant descent. Required descent rate to stay on the path is calculated as groundspeed x 5 or groundspeed half. So we Once the PAPI is in sight, it may help. Traffic pattern altitude for a visual approach in a latge airplane is usually at 1500 feet above the airfield elevation.

Thanks for watching and the friendly feedback! Very good observation: The sidesticks are not physically interconnected to each other. If one pilot moves his or her sidestick, the other stick does not move. The signals of the sticks are added. If one pilot would steer to the right and the other steer to the left, the plane would fly straight. There is a takeover pushbutton to disengage the other pilots sidestick which may be used during a mechanical malfunction or an incapacitation of one pilot. Also the general rule is that only one pilot is flying and makes inputs with his or her sidestick.

Our interphone is most of the time on or “hot”. There is no squelch switch in the Airbus. Also, we listen to ATC on radio 1 and the emergency frequency on radio 2. When we would like to talk to ATC, we have to push one of the push to talk buttons. This is always the same, even during a briefing.

just a stupid question, soo @1:53 speed says 250 knots ( which is 463km/h) but also says .790 mach ( which is 975km/h which is 526 knots) whats the actual speed of the aircraft ...so is that mean high up air is thin and drag is less so a thrust of 250 knots will take the aircraft 975 kmph due to air thickness and drag factor .. lol maybe Im confused !!!
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
The speed information which really helps most to understand the velocity of the plane is the True Airspeed. It is indicated in the left upper corner of the ND. It shows 446 knots. Taking the wind into account, the Groundspeed is shown with 437 knots. The higher you fly, indicated airspeed is getting more and more useless. Above 27000/28000, feet the Mach indication is a good reference for the speed and below this altitude, the Indicated Airspeed makes most sense because the Mach indication has no real value.

Hiya! I’m a long-time Welsh passenger into Tenerife (mostly TFS, but I’ve done TFN via Madrid/Barcelona a few times for aviation geek curiosity, dragging my poor mum, husband, and rest of travelling party with me!). But, I don’t think I’ve ever arrived via this route into TFS, i.e. overflying Gran Canaria. We normally follow a south-west bound path towards Punta de Teno,, descending anti-clockwise past Los Gigantes, and then turning onto finals with views over Playa de las Américas/Los Cristianos and skirting over the golf courses before landing on the north-easterly runway. I’m sure we’ve departed via your route here, but never landed on it. I still always reserve seats on the left-hand side, hoping for views of el Teide. 😆 My OH and I are flying out this summer, and bringing our young Ukrainian guest to see the wonders of Puerto de la Cruz for the first time. I massively enjoy your channel; Captain - your reserved sense of humour makes me cackle. Wishing you an eon of happy flying still to come. Best wishes from Wales! Cariad, Siân x

We have done similarly to this several times. I too prefer the left hand side for views of Los Gigantes. The other approach is not as good for views. We did have a missed approach once though, that lost us a good 20 minutes of our holiday!

Sind die Parkpositionen die Flugzeuge bekommen schon im vorhinein geplant. Oder schickt der Lotse euch zu irgendeinem Parkplatz wo frei ist?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад

What info is printed after landing? Does it print automatically, or do you initiate it? Have heard it will report if excessive g-force was encountered during landing, but imagine it tells more. Do you have to report/register the info somewhere, or is it done automatically, and print out is just for your information?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
The printer prints all kinds of messages. Usually from the company or as an answer to a request from us. Most of the time, it is a slot for the next flight. Also, we get Notams and important weather information. A very hard landing report would also be printed automatically. But this landing was very smooth. At the parking position, we also print an electronic flight log that needs to be signed by the captain. Technical data, like defects and flight data, are always automatically transmitted to the company.

Nice, Spanish is one of the fastest Languages, not bad for an Atc talk, but does it bother you not knowing what other planes do, and do make a shortcut by requesting a visual?
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
We check the traffic situation on TCAS and look outside before we request a visual approach. That does not mean that there must be no traffic. It should be in sight or far enough away. Sometimes, visual approach clearances contain additional instructions, like a heading or certain altitude restriction. We monitor the ATC frequency all the time and even know what the other traffic is cleared for.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
Thanks for watching! Nice to hear that you love my videos. The audio is the original audio from the flights. But sometimes it is incomplete or blocked due to technical or a variety of other reasons. I am sorry about that and can not release any details. I can just give you one example (not from this flight): A pilot on the same ATC frequency did an airspace violation. This was unrelated to our flight. So, I removed the complete conversation between ATC and the pilot from the video. The problem is that this also took away our conversation in the cockpit, which took place at the same time.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos

Good question. The pilot flying decides. Airbus recommends autothrust for all phases of flight. I like the autothrust very much. It's a reliable system. Especially in bad weather or during visual approaches, it helps a lot. Other pilots may have made different experiences.

@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад

Nice video. With AP and FD off do the yaw dampers still keep the aircraft on track if there are any cross winds (ie the yaw) and would you deploy the rudder on the flare? Thanks
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
Thanks! The Airbus flies with autopilot off like any other airplane. It has just some protections against too much bank angle and so on. If there is crosswind or changing winds in direction and speed, you have to correct your heading to keep the airplane on the extended runway track. The best method to do a nice crosswind landing, is to use the rudder to align the airplane nose with the centerline at about 3 feet or so, just a moment prior touchdown. If you do it too early, you have to add also some opposite aileron to keep the airplane from drifting to the right or left of the centerline. This is not different to other planes. You even can land a Cessna 172 like this.
@birdman4274
@birdman4274 Год назад
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos That's great information thanks. But on the approach are you just applying aileron to correct the runway track and so the yaw damper if dealing with yaw i.e you don't use foot rudder inputs at this time
@ApproachandDepartureVideos
@ApproachandDepartureVideos Год назад
@BirdMan During the approach, we use only the ailerons. In addition, rudder is used during the flare to align the airplane with the runway centerline track.
@birdman4274

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos Thanks. When I first manually flew the Airbus on the MSFS simulator I was incorrectly using the rudder pedals with aileron for a turn during approaches and when correcting my track (just like I used to do many years ago when gliding). But of course this is FBW and is different in terms of rudder use. No wonder I had issues as I guess I was fighting against the yaw damper

Good question. We can use German or English. The crew decides whatever they want to do. Lots of times, it is mixed somehow because all checklists, manuals, procedures and ATC are in English. Also, we have to talk English with the operations people in non German language countries.
