That idea where Piccolo convinces 17 to stand down by telling him about Cell actually would make perfect sense. Piccolo had just fused with Kami and attained his wisdom and knowledge. What is a better way to show that off (story-wise) than him literally talking the previous big bads down? Then the androids sit around for a bit(maybe they are taken to the islands to hide from Cell this time, instead of being the welcome crew on a heavily lit landing strip), Krillin and 18 clicking together could be shown _outside of a time skip,_ and the androids can actually be good guys _before_ being pressured to by a man-eater bugman. Then Cell arrives and wrecks their shit anyways, because that's basically what he already does in the story(he comes over, beats Piccolo, beats Android 17, evades Android 16, then absorbs 17. No one at Kame House at the time could have prevented that, except for _maybe_ Tien). "But Cell wouldn't have found them without them powering up in a fashion that can be felt across the planet!" Toriyama hadn't fleshed out Cell's abilities by this point. Cell is built up to be the amalgamation of the absolute strongest fighters in the world. Just say that he could detect the smallest bursts of Ki, and that he kept track of Piccolo's energy signature(giving a reason to their first fight other than mostly being an excuse for exposition dumping) to see if he would give him any leads to the androids. Then lo and behold, Piccolo and co have suddenly flown to a remote area(flying releases a ton of ki. See: the Namek Saga) and are not moving for a while. Let's see what they're doing! Well, would you look at that, androids! That way, the Z-Fighters aren't dumb(let's power up to our very limit and show everyone with ki detection exactly where we are!), Cell isn't dumb(gee, I sure hope that for some reason they power up to their very limit to show me exactly where they are!), and the androids aren't dumb(lol fight). If the wait on the islands is long enough, it can also drag out the time Vegeta and Trunks spend in the Time Chamber, because a lot of people say that what we're given in the story between them entering and exiting doesn't feel like a full day.
In the manga, UI is changed to a technique, and the transformations that were previously called UI Omen and UI are now a separate thing altogether. I have _no_ idea how they'll explain that or what they'll even call the white haired form now(if they change the name at all), but that's just how it is. Additionally, UI as a technique gets weaker when it is stacked on weaker forms. (Minor spoilerish stuff ahead) Granola would get stomped by proper UI, since he only "beat" SSJG UI. UI as a technique also isn't yet strong enough to make one form better than another, since Goku proceeded to do a lot better with manual SSJB. Just some clarity so you don't get misinformed by people shouting "Yo, Granola beat Ultra Instinct SSJG Goku!!" Granola didn't beat the Ultra Instinct form stacked with SSJG, he only beat SSJG that was using a dash of autopilot.
All im saying is when goku figures out how to go ssgss with ui they better give that transformation a shorter nick name cause ssgss ain't it. I always just call that form blue
